That was high school basketball. What happened to the high scoring teams of the 90's? Every game...everywhere you go seems to be a slugfest/foulfest. It's not fun to watch.
I will never forget when Coach Smith said to me and I quote..."the worst thing they ever did to high school basketball was add a 3rd official." He said, and I quote again "there is already two sets of eyes watching the game that know nothing, why add another set". Of course he didn't say it that politely but...LOL. That was coach!

And that story of yours, OR, reminds me of the female official in last year's championship game. I think back now on how she tried to make her statement for being on the floor and how it hurt us. Thanks a lot..... slowly I turn, step by step........

    She was god awful!!

    Girls beat Chippewa 65-45.

    In other scores...

The game was at New Philly, packed house, and down to the wire.

The game we should have seen Sat. night was St.Edward 108 and Mentor 105, with the coaches son missing a three at the buzzer! And it was in regulation time, no overtime!

If Coach Landis had it his way, the boy would have stayed on Jv.
  • OQB
I remember the last time Orrville hit 100 points at home against Triway...that game was crazy!

I miss those high scoring games.

I'd have no problem believing that.

Girls played pretty good Hannah played well, had 4 girls that scored 6 pts./ea we had all 5 of the JV girls in the last 3 min. of the game we were up almost 27 by then, next up St. Thomas @ Noon on Saturday.
    "GO LADY RIDERS"

Hannah's still on pace to set the all-time single season scoring average record. She's gotta be close to 450 point on the season. School record is like 513. She has a shot.

Did not know that looks like she needs to avg. 25 pts. next 3 games, might be rough to do against Smithville and Manchester, especially against a slower paced game by Smithville.

To have a real shot at the season points total, I think they need to make the regional finals. That will be tough to do.

The 513 (Rhonda Winters, 1982-83) was done in 25 games.

She may have to be content with 2nd or 3rd place all-time season average, and 9th on the all-time points list after her sophomore year.

Here's some cold weather, snow-day reading.

Heard this quote the other day...

"Everyone wants to be the best, but nobody wants to put in the work to be the best."
  • 1_beast
Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work.
  • BRF
And 1_beast chimes in with an excellent point (imo, of course). And the reason I say that is because he is very involved with the Waynedale wrestling program and knows what it takes to succeed.

    Go Riders! Beat Wooster!

Excellent post added there by my friend 1_beast and couldn't be any more true!

Most high school athletes today just want the instant gratification of being a star player with all the accolades and scholarship offers....but do not want to put in the neccessary or even extra work to be that great player.

Note I bolded the word "most", because obviously we have had quite a few of those players that put in the extra work...hence our teams having a lot of success in recent years. We have been very spoiled here in Orrville.
  • Riderfan
I believe the Riders post season starts Friday against Wooster. We got spanked the first game but a win against these guys could do wonders in the tournament.
  • BRF
Amen, Riderfan.....Amen. (Is it OK to talk about prayer and public school athletics?!....I think....YES!). ;-)

    Go Riders!
  • Riderfan
Yes. Prayer is good. It has helped me many years with my kids in life and sports:)

Man we got Rider posters and n00bs coming out of the woodwork this week lol :D
