When you spew the crap that Steelers fan have on this thread, it is bound to attract some unwanted comments.

I'm waiting for Ernest T Bass's thread complaining about the Refs in the Pitt Miami game.

    A few things.....

-Dr. Pennypacker......no, your logic for picking the Jets to win is still retarded. Who on here thinks that the Jets won YESTERDAY because they made the playoffs LAST YEAR and the Steelers didn't make it LAST YEAR?

-Sorry, Rock.....but I haven't heard Tomlin publicly criticize the officials this year. In fact, when asked about the officiating at his press conferences his response is,"Any conversations that I may have with the league are between me and them."

-Was there a missed call at a critical time yesterday? Yes. That holding was pretty clear and even Simms pointed it out. Calls are missed though. Shit happens. Sometimes you're good enough to overcome them and sometimes you're not. Yesterday they weren't.

-I think that Troy and Heath would've made a huge difference and would've changed the outcome but they didn't play so it doesn't matter.

-I thought the o-line, overall, played pretty darn good yesterday. The safety was a combination of a nice play by Taylor and a missed block. I would've like to have seen a play action bomb to Wallace there. I thought the Steelers got away from that in the 2nd half (play action) and it was effective in the 1st half.

-Special teams, which has been pretty good this season, reared it's ugly head yesterday and had as much to do with the loss as anything. Field position and that return for a TD to start off the game were backbreakers. And Jeremy Kapinos fucking sucks. Yet, the Steelers still had a chance to win in the end. There are no good losses but I don't come away from that game without any positives.

-The conspiracy talk is overboard but where were some of you criticizing those couple Steeler fans when others were claiming conspiracy after Super Bowl XL and after the Miami game this year? All of the photoshopped photos of referees wearing black and gold in Super Bowl XL, the talk about officials being from the Pittsburgh area, etc. I mean, if a league conspiracy against the Steelers is ridiculous then a league conspiracy FOR the Steelers to win games and Super Bowls is equally absurd, right? I'm just asking for some consistency here. You can't have it both ways. It's hypocritical. I think all of the conspiracy talk is bullshit. But I just wish there was more outrage when people were claiming the league was trying to hand the Steelers games and trophies.

-Granted that conspiracy talk is more than just complaining about officiating but EVERY team has fans that complain about calls and I'm willing to bet we've ALL done it at some point. Wasn't there talk about a field goal in a game last year that should've counted that didn't? Maybe a Cleveland-Cincy game where some fans were claiming the ball went through/over the uprights but wasn't counted? EVERY team has fans that do it.

-HB1137.....you did complain about the officiating that game when the Steelers beat the Falcons. I'll see if I can still pull it up. I don't know how often you do it other times because I don't give a shit about Atlanta and don't read their threads (if they have any on here) unless my team is playing them.

-The Steelers are in. Beat Carolina and Cleveland, get that #2 seed and a 1st round bye and get Troy, Heath and Aaron Smith back and they've got a real shot IMO.

I simply want one Steeler fan to acknowledge the fact that James Harrison probably has a larger role in the outcome of the poor officiating that the Steelers have received (perceived or not). All the blame for how poor it's been toward the Steelers must have a root cause, a conspiracy is about as far out in left field as they come, James Harrison contemplating retirement, shedding the whiny spotlight on himself and the Steelers by default is front and center.

Why would an Eagles player be the one to blame for the officiating in Steeler games?

LOL. I knew what you meant. Just funnin'.

Anyways, I actually DO think that probably has something to do with them being on the wrong end of calls more often than not. Doesn't make it right IMO. I also notice that Vick and Roethlisberger get smacked around a lot of the time being QB's and while their styles allow for such situations....they're QB's.....you've got to call it if the NFL truly wants to protect the QB's. Not saying it's a conspiracy against those two but I sometimes wonder if the officials/league are letting these two get hit late/illegally because of their off the field fuck-up's. Probably not, but it's crossed my mind.

On a positive note while we are on the topic of James Harrison, he ised the money that was donated to him by fans to pay his fines earlier in the season, to throw a Christmas party for needy children this past weekend.

It certainly does not make it right, I agree. I guess though, that it goes with the territory, the guy should have shut his mouth, paid the fine and been done with it. It's a new rule, a crappy one albeit and the league sent a message they were going to enforce it, you can't really expect them to forget that Harrison was making (essentially) a mockery of it by acting the way he did. Reffing is a human element, NBA stars get the benefits of being such, NFL turds seem to be getting the short end of the stick. It's human nature.

I think things will even out next season, but this years shenanigans are too fresh in the minds of officials currently. It is what it is.

Fair enough and I understand what you're saying. I don't think it's okay to make an example of players for something that they've already paid for but as you said, it is what it is.

This. If Steeler fans shouldn't be allowed to complain about poor officiating, then fans of other teams shouldn't be talking when the Steelers get the benefit of questionable calls or non-calls. After all, it's a bit hypocritical to downplay the impact a missed call had in a Pittsburgh loss (such as last night or the playoff loss to Jacksonville a handful of years ago) while CONSTANTLY bringing up the Seattle Super Bowl as this profound evidence that things are rigged in their favor. Kind of like how it's hypocritical to relish the Turkey Jones' hit on Bradshaw as this great moment in sports while crying like a little bitch because James Harrison wrecked a couple of guys' days.

But I guess when a team is, say, 5-9 and heading to another dismal off-season with another potential coaching change and another high draft pick, about the most joy their fans get from the NFL from December on would come from things like this. Such is life. Some fanbases celebrate wins, other celebrate the losses of their superiors because it's really difficult to celebrate a loss to a team that last won when it was comfortable to be wearing tank tops and shorts outside.

As for the game, the missed call sucked, but that's life. I look at a lot of the problem being the mid-season rule changes, as they cause the refs to be looking for more stuff and making split-second decisions on those things WITHOUT the sort of training that helps with integrating these new rules more seamlessly. I wouldn't be surprised if, around the league, a number of calls that could/should be made are being missed just because refs are missing things due to the increased emphasis on paying attention to head shots.

Life goes on. Take care of Carolina and Cleveland and the Steelers are the #2 seed and have a first round bye.
  • bigdaddy2003
Yeah, missed calls or botched calls definitely get old. Baltimore should be 12-2 right now but are only 10-4 due to missed or botched calls.
  • september63
The Browns should be 0-14 but a few botched calls actually went our way!! Damn

You obviously haven't listened to or watched all of his pressers because he questioned the officiating on more than one ocassion.

In that case, your boys on The Fan are full of shit then because I listen to that channel everyday and that's what they said Tomlin responds with when asked about officiating.

Def not a Steelers fan, but I like Tomlin's approach...at least how he is addressing the media. I hate coaches that come off as whiney bitches.
  • rock_knutne
killer, you can pull out all the articles you want, he not only was pissed in one of his Tuesday pressers but he's made comments about the officiating during after practice interviews too. Recently, with in the last month or so, Tomlin has taken that stance but believe me, he was pissed on a couple of ocassions. Take it FWIW but I heard him on The Fan.

    Yeah, okay.
