At what point is it creepy to go to highschool sporting events?

So then you were a relative or close friend of someone on the teams you coached? If you shouldn't even be going to the games as an adult, there's no way you should be spending time with the team every day coaching, right?.Fly4Fun;1093984 wrote:After that I really didn't pay attention to high school sports until I started coaching then that one I followed the boards again.
Or is the entertainment value high enough to coach, but not high enough to attend the games? Or is that different because you got paid to do it?
So many rules in the adult handbook that I don't understand.
I'm curious what you meant by that.Glory Days;1094066 wrote:Jerry Sandusky wasnt always "Jerry Sandusky". -

If you lived in a dedicated community they'd get shitfaced, then come to the game.like_that;1094080 wrote:Same, I was very paranoid of these creeps supporting me. How pathetic of them. They should have been at a hole in the wall bar getting pissed drunk, instead of supporting their community. -

Generally speaking, I think people are right that people in bigger cities have other things to do so they don't catch high school sporting events. Cincinnati is the exception. Cincinnati is a rabid high school football town. Schools like Elder, Colerain and St. X have huge tailgaiting events and draw monsterous crowds. A fews years back there were about 40,000+ at the Bengals stadium to watch a game between St. X and Colerain. I remember back in 2002 Elder brought 15,000 fans up to Columbus to watch them play Dublin Scioto at Crew Stadium.Thinthickbigred;1094090 wrote:I thought I lived in football crazy ohio . What part of the state do some of these guys live that thinks its creepy to go to a HS football game . I guess all of us people from Steubenville area are creepy huh . Better include the city of Massillon ,I do know they get tons of fans at there games . Dont know about the sorry Cinci area or whatever part of Ohio some of you that think its creepy are from . go back to West Texas and watch 6 man football weirdos or South Dakota or something -

As I said earlier, "Each school has their group of dipshits who still need to vicariously live their HS years through current HS athletes, and I think for some of you it has clouded your judgement."Thinthickbigred;1094110 wrote:Your so sorry you never played anything the only thing you ever did was smoke weed and maybe sell a little You never were naybody and you never will be . bigkahunaBuckeye Cable out of Toledo has a station called BCSN, which airs pretty much every hs sport in the greater Toledo area. Whenever there's nothing else on, I'll switch over and watch whatever football, basketball, volleyball game is on. The football and and basketball are entertaining because I like basketball and have coached football. I also enjoy volleyball but do feel a little creepy watching THAT on tv. I'll watch Michigan Volleyball on BTN, but I guess that's a little different.
I guess it's kind of a double standard. If there's any guy of any age goes to a hs volleyball/GBB game with 0 connections, then yes that does seem creepy by nature. If the same guy goes to a football/ BBB game, then it doesn't seem creepy. -

We have a thread for that now, I am waiting for the experts to chime in.WebFire;1094153 wrote:I already graduated college too. Is it creepy to go to CFB games? -
stlouiedipalmaAlthough I think that this thread is the product of a tired, bored mind, I feel I have to put in my two-cents' worth on it.
When I lived in a small town in Ohio, high school sports were social events. The whole town went to both the home and away games. When our kids graduated we still supported the programs because we knew everyone and we knew their kids. I always enjoyed high school basketball and made a point of going to the tournament games at all levels, including the state tournament. It was great entertainment. When I moved to Southwestern Illinois, I didn't know anyone, but I made a point of going to the local high school and watching the boys varsity basketball games. It's quite a bit different, because we have over 2500 students in our high school. I also go to the small school divisions' state tournament in Peoria, because I like small school high school basketball.
Is there anything creepy or perverted about this? No. I simply consider it a great entertainment value and I love the game. -

Same.
I like going to quality games and I go to the state tourney every year -

These are the people who I was actually referring to in my original post in the other thread. I was just being nice not naming names. The people who take HS sports way too seriously and basically have it dominate their lives.like_that;1094134 wrote:As I said earlier, "Each school has their group of dipshits who still need to vicariously live their HS years through current HS athletes, and I think for some of you it has clouded your judgement." -

If you can't see the difference between coaching kids and randomly going to a football game full of 9 year olds I can't help you.Mulva;1094119 wrote:So then you were a relative or close friend of someone on the teams you coached? "Normal guy" in the eyes of society? Normal guy in that he just hadn't committed any diddling yet? Or normal guy as in actually normal? Because I'm pretty confident his perversion would have existed before he acted on it.Glory Days;1094184 wrote:before he diddled his first little boy, he was just a normal guy like everyone else.
I figured your comment just meant that nobody had known about what he (allegedly) was yet.
I didn't say anything about 9 year olds. I was referring to high school. You said there is better entertainment value than attending high school sporting events. Yet you coached them. That's a head scratcher to me.Fly4Fun;1094186 wrote:If you can't see the difference between coaching kids and randomly going to a football game full of 9 year olds I can't help you. -
gerb131I like going to HS football games even if I have no interest in the teams playing same can be said for basketball games too. Now volleyball not so muchl

Regardless of age, there is obviously a difference between coaching and just going to a game. When coaching, you are doing it to give back to the sport because you have knowledge and the ability (hopefully) to hep kids learn something they otherwise wouldn't. A person going as a spectator is going to entertain themselves. I didn't coach purely for my entertainment. Coaching is an entirely different experience than spectating.Mulva;1094205 wrote:"Normal guy" in the eyes of society? Normal guy in that he just hadn't committed any diddling yet? Ummm...I believe those that are going to the games to watch are there not for entertainment only, but also to SUPPORT their community/school/whatever. What don't you understand about this logic? And I fail (haha...cry4fail) to believe you have any knowledge and/or ability to coach. I guess this is where the "hopefully" comes in play.Fly4Fun;1094225 wrote:Regardless of age, there is obviously a difference between coaching and just going to a game.
