Do You Believe in Heaven and Hell?

You could always voice your concerns and question God on his "unjust" ways on that day, or pick up a Bible and read about his just ways.

Man is created in God's image and man is also given Freewill from God to make certain choices in life, God didn't create robots. As evident by the world we live in man has dropped the ball badly.

Yes, it was man that dropped the ball...

I've read the bible quite a few times.

And I would call God on his hypocritical bullshit, except he doesn't exist.

Just to be clear here, I'm talking about heaven and hell as actual destinations after death. I'm not talking about realities that people experience here on earth or some philosophical idea, but rather actual realities for every person after death.

So please, vote in the poll, and leave any feedback you'd like, but let's try our best to stay civil and respectful of the beliefs of others.

    Thanks in advance.
You're teaching about hell? Just teach them about marriage. Same thing.

    Hope this helps.

Yes because the damn crusades worked out so well for the Catholics and their 'Father, son and the holy spirit' trash they killed half of Europe for.

Believing in God makes you less likely to commit a crime? I guess us agnostics/atheists might rob a wal mart every now and then, but at least we are not killing countries to convince people what we believe is right.

And the thread just became overly religious. And that's what I'm proud of for my first post back in who knows how long.

I believe Jesus Christ was/is the spiritual leader for most of Western Civilization. JC was no different then Shankara, who's Southern Asia/India's spiritual leader or Dalai Lama, spiritual leader for Tibet.
Anyone who believes their religion is right and "everyone else" wrong, is ignorant.

I believe theirs a place which could be considered "heaven" to some, a place where souls go on vacation in between reincarnations. Theirs no such place as a "hell" for souls.

Mulva;995586 wrote:What is your opinion then? I was under the impression that the whole heaven/hell concept was based on the concept of mortal sins, which are based on the human concept of what is and is not acceptable. But I admittedly haven't paid any attention to religion since I was about 12 and decided for myself that something didn't add up, so I'm curious as to how you view it.
    ....
Those who believe and accept that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that He is part of the triune God delivered to atone for our sins will have eternal life in a heavenly state.

Those who do not will not eternally be with God the Father. That separation from the peace and love of God is Hell.

An agnostic/atheist who disparages Catholicism for their past, yet reps a Catholic University. I love irony.

You are confusing believing in a diety with religious actions by a certain group of persons in a certain period of time.

My question was more of what drives internal moral ethics, why do Earthly acts matter.

I find both sides hard to prove (at least in my mind), as both take faith. Yes, there is some science that can point you in the right direction, either way, but neither can actually PROVE what the truth is. My faith leans towards a literal heaven and hell. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. But I'd rather be a wrong believer, than a wrong atheist.

What if you're wrong, but another religion is correct. You're going to whatever version of hell they have along with all the rest of the non believers. :o

"Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, "I will take revenge; I will pay them back," says the LORD." Romans 12:19

voice your concerns to who? the sky? the walls? no one is listening when you pray by yourself at night, just to let you know :)

What version of hell to other beliefs have?

    Hey look!

All of the assholes on this site don't believe in Heaven/Hell.
All of the non-assholes on this site do believe in Heaven/Hell.

Is faith such a bad thing? Huh, assholes?

I honestly don't know and don't think about it much anymore. I'd like there to be a Heaven...I'd like to know I'm going to spend an eternity with those I love...but it seems to illogical for me to believe in (right now).

The real version of hell and not the fake one obviously

Right now the numbers are 2/3 yes and 1/3 no. There appear to be alot more athesis (not from the poll which I understand is not the question, but rather from comments) on here than I would have thought. It appears the best data shows that 12% of the US population is athesis, seems like that number might be double here. Maybe it is a younger population demographic that is on this board.

Maybe atheists are more likely to post about it. (I'm saying maybe because I know there are a lot of religious people who are happy to talk religion, but these threads never really go anywhere so maybe they decided to sit this one out.)
