You don't have to have gone to Afghan (talk about Marines and their "respect" for their enemy, yet you can't even call them by the country's actual name, Afghanistan) to know that you are fucking loony. You're like the ol dude in Avatar, the antagonist. Batshit crazy, over the top, 'too much', illogical. "We are the Marines! We are the best of the best! We will fucking dominate youuuuuuuuuuu!" Yeah ok, cool, you can kill people. That's your only talent on earth. Well, that and being a complete fucking lunatic douchebag.

Not much of a talent either considering many low life criminals can do the same thing. Marines are just given a lot more ammo and weapons.

How do you know all this? I'm genuinely asking, not antagonizing.

I've known him for over 3 years now, talk on the phone almost weekly. He's a good guy but very defensive on military service and can be harsh.
Can you blame anyone who has suffered and witnessed what he's witnessed, not be defensive.

His language and assumptions might be out of line sometimes but i can't blame him( he's tired of losing in ncaa football to me, haha).

In all seriousness, he's a good guy, a good father, good husband( hopefully they get married soon) and a good friend.

I fail to see how because you've "seen some things and some stuff" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rUMa8bFbqo) that gives you the right to call other branches of military shit? Where is the correlation there?

Make no mistake, I don't blame him for being proud of his time as a Marine. I'M proud of ANYONE who can undergo that kind of training and fight for our country the way they do. I respect and admire that, and I could never do it, myself.

However, I will not ever admire or even accept the use of that to either belittle the other branches of the armed forces, who also put their lives on the line, and who also do what I could not, as I admire them just as much (unless, again, they're just ribbing one another).

Moreover, I will not admire or accept the attitude that, because someone did serve in a war, they deserve special exception on things like this. I can empathize with the adjustment to normal life being difficult. I don't blame him his brashness at all. My grandfather is the same way (flew planes in WWII, joined the Air Force in '47 when it became its own entity, was shot down in the Korean War, served in Vietnam, received the Silver Star and two Purple Hearts), as is my brother-in-law (a graduate of USAFA, and a fighter pilot currently). Both of them, however, appreciate the laws and practices that they serve(d) to protect. They don't expect exception from those laws or rules. When offered, they humbly accept them (have seen it from both of them). They don't demand free drinks at bars. They don't demand anything.

It just seems that if someone is in the military, fighting to protect our rights and way of life, that they should actually value our rights and way of life. Delta has a right to put a charging practice into place so as to ensure that they are a profitable company under the capitalist economic model ... which is one of the freedoms we have that the military serves to protect. So why would a military man then demand that Delta not exercise that freedom when it comes to him?

Accept gratitude with humility and dignity. Don't demand gratitude with arrogance, and DEFINITELY don't throw a fit when someone doesn't show gratitude the way you want them to.

Look I respect the other branches but do I think they are shit? Hell yes I do but they think the Marines are shit. Yah we fight the same war but it is a Rivalry. We all think we are the best. Do I think the Air Force and Army could do more hell yes. I think this because of the money those branches have. Yes I will take it to my grave that the Marines are the best.
I don't expect no handouts. I don't want that shit. But when it is given I say thank you. I don't ask stores if they have military discount. I don't use being disabled to my benefits. I'm not that type of person. I don't want any of you to feel sorry for me because I lost my leg. I joined I knew this could happen.

There is a healthy internal family like chiding that goes on amongst the branches. To fervently display public disdain for another branch is when it becomes unfortunate and borders disrespect.

No it really isn't disrespect. I live in Grand Forks. This is an Air Force town. I have to deal with these fuckers everyday. They talk shit to me I throw it right back. My neighbor is a E-7 in the Air Force and I think he is a complete bitch. Why because he bitches about being in Kuwait for a year. GTFO with that shit that shit is a vacation dont have to worry about shit. I hate that other services where there uniforms in public. They think because they are in uniform they should get every deal possible.

    Tiger2003;797715 wrote:No it really isn't disrespect...
I'll rephrase for clarification. It comes across as disrespectful.
  • Tiger2003
Look I respect the other branches. But that's about it. Just because I respect them doesnt mean I have to like them or think they are great.
  • Con_Alma
I don't believe to have to do or feel anything as it relates to other branches. If you want to not like them, be my guest. You are certainly entitled.

My comments were that there has always been a brotherly like rivalry amongst branches. When some, and it's usually the enlisted ones, escalate it to a public bashing, it comes across as very disrespectful.

This was probably just a mistake. You can tell the airport staff's that have dealt with a lot of military personnel before and know the policies the best.
Whoever said it was no big deal, you're an idiot!! These guys were coming back from war, risking their lives for the rest of us. Something you obviously know nothing about.

Delta will make it right... Have too! They are almost the exclusive airline that the USAF uses, they won't want to lose that money from troops pcs'ing, deploying or tdy.
And nice to see most the airlines make it 5 free bags on orders. That'll be great when we leave Hawaii. Be able to use a few bags just to put things for the baby in.

Where does it end? Policeman, firefighters, hell even I risk my life every day driving to work to pay your salary. Should I get free bags on a flight? This is what I'm talking about, over glorification of the military. It's a freaking PC joke. Yes, support them(with my tax dollars) and respect them, but they should be treated just like every one else.

It's not free on Southwest Airlines to have bags transported. It might not be charged separately but they are not free. The costs is built into the ticket charge.

  • Con_Alma
Yeah. The cost to transport luggage is recouped by the revenue they derive from ticket sales.

Suggesting it's not means they would be losing money on the expense they incur moving bags. That's just not the case.
