    I've been a blackberry fan boy for a while now and I finally did enough research to decide to switch. Only thing that sucks is that it'll come on a Monday and I'll legit have 0 time to play with it. I teach from 7:40-11:40. Quick lunch and then I have to tutor/study before my 2 and 3 o'clock classes then I have practice until 6 and my night class at 6:30. Boo!

    Get an app killer program or your battery life will really suck.

    Not always true.

    if ( $linux == $windows ) {
    echo "Use task killer";
    } else if ( $softwareProgramming == "Poor" ) {
    echo "Get rid of crap software";
    } else {
    echo "Task killer is a waste of space. Even more so with a modern phone SOC.";
    }

    I was having some issues with my Droid Ally and took it into Verizon.

    When I bought the Ally, the guy made sure to put Task Killer on my phone right away....

    However, when I went in, he took it off right away because I guess it messes up your phone pretty bad. He said that Verizon got an email from a few different cell phone makers telling them that it isn't good for the phone, and actually makes the battery life worse because it deletes things that help the battery life (even though they might not show up when you go into to kill things.)

    a couple quick questions, first off, my facebook is connected, but is there like an app i have to get to get notifications and be able to browse profiles?

    also when you hit the little arrow to open up the app thing, how do i get rid of some of those? Like I have amazon mp3 and blockbuster, shit I won't use I don't want them ttaking up space on my screen, i can't hold and trash them on this screen.

    I'm guessing your going to need to root your phone.... Go to xda devs forums, very good information.

    Just got the EVO the other day and it is my first smartphone. Anythings I should know or any need to get apps? I've read what you guys have talked about and stuff but just a little confused on somethings like rooting...
  • eagleman
    What exactly does a root do?

    eagleman;500053 wrote:What exactly does a root do?
    It gives superuser permissions. If you want to use your phone within the bounds that HTC and Sprint has setup, don't worry about rooting. If you want to load different ROMS, programs that require SU permissions, or try to turn your phone into a brick (if you jack something up), then obtaining root is for you.

    As stated, to load custom roms, speed the phone up, smoother, remove bloat ware (carrier added stuff that takes space and can't delete). I rooted for the first time in june and still never go back... One you learn, it's easy and fun.

    No.

    So should I get task killer advanced or not? Imex and Justin what do you guys do?
  • imex99
    It's your call.... Use it for a bit and then don't use it and see if it works for you.
    I had one installed since launch and just uninstalled finally. I'm using fresh rom and king kernel 10 and my evo is much faster, smoother and longer battery. Others with this rom suggest not using, so I uninstalled my task killer and my oc (over clock) app.

    Most of what I'm talking about can be found at xda forums for the evo.

    NO!

    "By default, every application runs in its own Linux process. Android starts the process when any of the application's code needs to be executed, and shuts down the process when it's no longer needed and system resources are required by other applications."

    You can read more because it does explain it in depth on that page. If you are having battery drain problems due to downloaded software, remove the software.

    Android doesn't use RAM like a desktop or laptop does.

    When you see your RAM being used completely on a desktop or laptop that means something is using it and it's going to be slowing you down if you're trying to do something.

    Android uses RAM efficiently and loads recently used programs into the RAM so that they can launch quicker and such. If you start loading up new programs the ones you haven't used in a bit will get kicked out of the RAM and have to reload the next time you open them.

    As the link I posted above shows most of the time using a task killer on Android will not help battery life and can actually make app load times and such slower.
