  I think it is easy to dismiss this season because the past couple seasons were so deep. Last year, You had Kris Allen (the winner), Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey, and Allison Iraheta who were really good. The year before you had David Cook and David Archeleta. Let's not forget there have been some other bad years and some times the Top 12 are not so good. Season #6 which had Jordin Sparks win was worse than this year IMHO. That was the year Sanjaya Malakar frustrate the heck out of us and Blake Lewis beat-boxed his way to the final two.
  
  Bowersox, Lee and Casey are all pretty solid. Granted, they are not as good as last year's top three but they are better than some of the years past

  1) Carrie Underwood8)
  2) Clarkson
  3) Daughtry
  4) Clay Aiken
  5) David Cook
  6) Adam Lambert
  7) Fantasia (Broadway, maybe off-Broadway)
  8) another Broadway/Acting women who's name escapes me
  9) Ruben Stoddard (has done nothing but I think one of the best of the rest)
  
  And there are a few more people who haven't done much but did pretty well on the show. IMO, Lee, Casey and Crystal are maybe top-15 all-time on this show and any one of them honestly could end-up in the top-5 here for album sales. Casey and Lee will do really well if they get in the right band. Casey struggles a bit as far as creativity/arrangements, but he has a great sounding voice and plays guitar really well.

  I have watched American Idol on occasion, but can't really stomach this season ... so boring. That being said, one omission on your list is Kat McPhee, she made a pretty decent name for herself (and wasn't too bad on the eyes):

  Yeah, Jennifer Hudson is the broadway actress I couldn't remember. Forgot about Jordin Sparks, but I don't think she would have beaten out either Crystal or Lee this year.

  Memorable and successful for reasons other than singing ability. I don't think she's better than Lee (who is very much like Daughtry and Cook in many respects) or Crystal (who is probably the most ready-right-now singer/performer they've had in the competition, apologies to Adam Lambert)
  
  Kat wasn't as talented as some of the others on this show, notably Casey but possibly Siobhan as well. More comparable to that Katie girl or whatever her name was booted a few weeks ago (just much better looking).
  
  There is some lack of creative ability and stage presence this year, but not talent. You can work with the former but you can't manufacture talent. Casey and Lee have great natural tone for radio.

  Bucky Covington and Kelly Pickler have had country hits. Elliot Yamin had a couple on the charts also.
  
  If this season seems 'bad' it is because there was a huge difference in readiness between people like Bowersox and Big Mike and raw talent like Aaron Kelly and Katie Stevens. Those that have been knocked out already really aren't that bad. Some of them sounded better than the established artists they bring on to sing as guests of the show.
