American Idol

Little DannyPeople think she is "unique" and "different". Frankly, I do not find her unique at all and cringe when people talk about goth kids being unique. It is just a differnt style. It is hard to call someone unique when there are thousands of other people who have the same look.
As to her singing, they try to say she is the female Adam Lambert. The only comparison is that they both could be accused of screaming, but I see Adam's scream to have more melody. Her scream is just shrill.
Finally, I can't stand how when she does hit that note, her mouth looks like you can drive a Mack truck through it. It just looks odd. -

I've thought she was downright terrible since day one.SnotBubbles wrote: Does anyone else think that Siobhan is terrible? I can't stand anything about her. If I was in to punching women in the face....I'd punch her in the face. -
RedRider1Liked her look at the beginning, but she's gotten annoying lately. Her "but I'm unique, you can't define me" garbage is tired.
She oversings songs. -
McFly1955It's funny that people being 'different and unique' is almost the majority now (in life in general, for teens and young adults), so really, they are now just being like everyone else who wants to be unique....LOL.
Normal people ftw. -
ernest_t_bassI had a good buddy who has a GREAT voice who tried out a few years back. He made it to Hollywood and all. He's a young black male. He straight up told me that they didn't put him through b/c they already had a young black male (same singing type) selected.
-
pkebkerIf America wanted someone unique they should have kept Lily, not Shioban. Lily was strange, but actually good. Shioban is terrible and I cringe everytime she opens her mouth because her teeth are so bad.

Little DannyErnest,
I think AI and other shows generally try to get a variety of people who sing different categories to appeal to a larger diverse audience. For example, you always see a country guy, a blonde haired country girl, the pretty boy type, a young girl, a coffee shop gyuy, etc. AI tries to spread it out. If for instance, the top 12 consisted of the same style of muscians a lot of people who did not care for that style would not watch.
On a related note, I auditioned for "Who wants to be a Millionaire" a few years ago. I had to take a test (which I passed) and then had an an interview. My interviewer flat out told me they were looking for women and young people ages 18-22. I never got on the show. -
bigdaddy2003Here is my take:
The top 5 left will be:
Big Mike
Crystal
Lee
Casey
Siobhan
Top 3
Crystal
Lee
Casey
Finals
Crystal
Casey
Winner - Crystal -
Manhattan Buckeye^^^
I agree with one caveat, I think it will be Lee in the final rather than Casey. -
NateTop 3
Crystal
Casey
Lee
Unfortunately, I think Casey will win because he has the look advantage. -
gorocks99That's fine by me; I'd rather Crystal get out there and create her own music. I think it'll be much better.

HitsRus^^^winning didn't seem to hurt David Cook.
I have to laugh at people who diss AI. The top of the charts are dominated by AI alumni....and you don't even have to win. The show gives a chance to people who otherwise might never been 'discovered'...and that includes Bowersox who might have spent years singing ' outside a subway station' before landing a halfway decent gig. Guys like Casey James wouldn't have a chance. Yeah they pick and choose...especially in tryouts. I know a young lady with a beauitful voice who never got thru the first screenings...they told her 'straight up' that she wasn't what they were looking for.
It's a two way street. Number one...the show needs it's ratings so it has to be interesting...so the producers re going to pick and choose who they think will help in that regard. No, it's not fair....but it's their show....and without ratings... it's over, and nobody gets a chance. Truth is...there are a ton of pretty girls with great voices...the question is are they marketable? .For the ones who do make it...what a huge chance. Most just blow it. -
HitsRusMy take on the show.
Best voices( in the classical sense)...male and female...Shioban and Big Mike.
Most polished.... Bowersox.... she hasn't changed since day 1...doesn't need to...just needed to be 'discovered'.
Most marketable recording artist...Lee Dewyze.
who will win....Bowersox
who should win....Bowersox
runner up.... Lee
3-4-5...Big Mike, Shioban, Casey.
Casey is 'runner up' to Lee in the 'rocker' category and hence they split votes which is why he goes out at #5. Once he's out, his voters will go to Lee which will put Lee in the finals.
The real reason I enjoy Idol is to watch the 'not so good' guys/gals get better every week.Bowrsox doesn't interest me at all. She's great. I know it. She knows it. Everyone knows it.
Tim Urban, Katie Stevens, and Aaron Kelly have been fun to watch grow up as singers and entertainers, and watch them take it as far as they can go. Much like Kelly Pickler and Elliot Yamin...these people are really raw, but make the most of their opportunity to learn and get coaching. Urban was absolutely terrible at the beginning...being the 25th man so to speak. But he has earned the judges respect the past 3 weeks. He's not going to win and he knows it, but his attitude and work ethic have paid off. I find myself rooting for him.
Katie Stevens was another who transformed during the process of the competition. Atthe beginning...just a shy, scared schoolgirl in dowdy dresses..at the end, she had swagger and confidence in black leather boots. Time ran out on her in this compettion, but I have a hunch we will hear of her again.
Aaron Kelly. Aaron's about ready to go home. Look at the kid's face...he's very young and the stress is getting to him. He's on the edge and barely hanging on. The producers know it too. Both of the past two elimination nites, they gave him the pass to the next round early and quickly. They aren't toying with the kid like they do the others. So far, the stress hasn't overwhelmed his peformances, but it's tearing at him. He may not survive the next week, even with his big teeny bopper fan base. -
WebFireI think I could find 5 girls at the local high school better than Shioban.

Tiernan^^^
definitely not in a Michigan HS, unless it were a yodeling competition. -

She may have become more confident but she still couldn't sing. She needs vocal lessons. When Kara told her she had "mad pitch" problems it was a nice way of saying she couldn't sing. She's young and has a nice tone, but AI was way too early for her. The judges have been incredibly easy on her and Aaron (another young person that needs more time and lessons) all season, my guess is due to their age. -

Same deal, test then interview.
I'm not trying to "brag", but the interviewer flat out told me that they were looking for people who the show could "make fun of" for missing the grade school questions and that I had got something like a 99% on the test (probably missed some literature question). I got told the show doesn't make money if its giving away the $1 million.
So they intentionally weed out the "smart" ones and only let a few through every once in awhile to keep people watching. -

I agree, I liked Katie and thought she was very good - especially for as young as she was.bigdaddy2003 wrote:
I agree about Andrew Garcia but not about Katie Stevens. The nerdy kid should have left along with Garcia.
I think Shioban is horrible! I was shocked she didn't go a couple of weeks back. Not doing it for me at all.Little Danny wrote: The final two I predict will be Bowersox and Shioban. Seems like a lot of people think she is wonderful and unique (I am not one of them).

Kara said that early in the competition. As I said... I like watching the raw talent develop. As long as they are on the show they are getting topshelf coaching and some of these kids really progress . What is interesting also is that the top 10 continue on tour in the summer, so the opportunity for them to get better and actually make a career is huge.
As far as Shioban goes, Simon made a comment (sic)that some people really are going to hate you and some people are really going to like you...and that's a good place to be. -
HitsRusWebFire wrote: I think I could find 5 girls at the local high school better than Shioban.
I would pretty much guarantee that if you put those 5 girls on an AI stage and make them sing a capella...you would hear more screaching than a tomcat on a backyard fence at midnite, and make Shioban seem like Sarah Brightman. -
tuskytuffguyShioban is the shiznit. And for the record, it ain't a screech, it's a high note. You want screech, go listen to Courtney Love, that's screech. People dissed Lambert all last season for screeching. Wrong, that's a high note. Mariah Carey has it, Adam Lambert has it, and Shioban Magnus has it. That's a godamn gift.
Oh, and I'd bang Shioban in a heartbeat. -
Nashley25I don't know why but in some weird twisted way I find Shioban hot. With that said I think the final two are Sox and Lee with Sox winning.

NOOOOOOOOOOO! GOD NO!
She's hideous, an awful singer and I hate her more than any contestant I've ever seen on the show.
Her performance last night was her WORST! I don't know what people see in her...or why the judges gave her good reviews...maybe they feel like they need to do something to keep her around????
