Tim McVeigh used fertilizer and a truck. The attack in Nice, France used just a truck.

At the end of the day if a terrorist or mentally insane person is going to kill 40 people, why does it matter to you (and most leftists) if they use a gun, a home made bomb, a truck, a jet plane, etc?

Take the guns away they do it another way, the commonality of how often it happens is no more or less in other western countries once you just list mass killings rather than just mass shootings.
Motivation and Opportunity are both necessary but not sufficient conditions for crime. You are talking about motivated criminals. Just because people are motivated to commit crime does not mean that is a an argument against reducing, opportunities to commit crime or create impediments to larger crimes.

For example, a world wherein terrorists are more likely to try and use cars to cause terror is a better world than one wherein they use firearms because it is easier for policymakers, businesses, etc. to design environments that limit deaths at the hands of motivated criminals.

A guy trying to,kill his,ex mother in,law and whoever else in church with a knife is better than with a gun. As such impediments that might deter motivated individuals from buying guns while not unduly burdening the 2nd amendment are desirable.

Seems to me you could create a bright line safe harbor standard of care that would exempt them from liability.

You are calling for a wholesale license for the 2nd Amendment (need a license to buy a guy) then use extremely partial examples of regulations on other rights (search and seizure, free speech, etc).

You asked for a license to pretty much buy any gun, period. If you apply this to the 1st Amendment you would need a license to ever speak your mind. If you applied it to the 4th you would need a license to keep any government official out of your house permanently.

You can't use the 'extreme' partial applications/regulations like securities, probable cause/warrants, yelling fire in a crowded theatre, etc as evidence that all of the 2nd Amendment should require a license. There is already background checks for the partial/extreme cases of felons, violent offenders, etc.
    1. I didn't attack you personally Jmog. I expressed concern for your ability to comprehend and called your argument retarded - politically incorrect for unsound.

    2. Your understanding is incorrect. I am suggesting the permitting/licensure of firearm purchases and purchasers engaged/who acquired them in commerce. Accordingly, I,am not suggesting the licensure of all "keeping & bearing" of firearms. Therefore, I am not calling for the wholesale licensure of the second amendment.

For example, wouldn't think it necessary & proper to require an open carry license I.e. the licensure of,open bearing of arms if the person was licensed when acquiring the firearm in commerce. Also, I wouldn't require a license for a soldier bearing arms as part of the National Guard, and any number of other examples of keeping & bearing arms that don't substantially relate to or originate from commerce.

It's hard to be fair when the other side can't be bothered to get actual facts, use made-up/incorrect terminology intended to incite, etc.

    Good lord.

The chainsaw bayonet is one of the stupidest things I've seen in awhile. While I disagree with some of you on guns in general, crap like that is stupid enough for a pre-schooler to spot.

This is the kind of shit that brings people together.

We may not agree on guns, but we can agree that the above is stupid.

If true, he's a terrible person, and bad things should happen to him.

I doubt anyone disagrees with this.

Yeah I've seen a ton of prominent conservatives condemning him.
