    I'm not denying that big government is used by both parties. It's getting conservatives to stop spreading the lie that government is always a bad thing because they advocate for policy that requires big government to implement.

    Progressives aren't denying this therefore the hypocrisy doesn't exist.

    Conservatives who support big government, because their "guys/gals" are in office are definitely hypocrites and being intellectually dishonest with themselves, but you're not kidding anyone. You literally have preached this since the OC's existent and all of a sudden you want to try and pretend you pulled a complete 180 and believe the Government should be involved with everything.

    Overall, your posts are just a deflection from the fact that you're butt hurt there is a thread dedicated to shitting on regressives with the stories that are in this thread. Feel free to contribute, we all know based on your posting history that you agree. Otherwise, we can just mark this down as sleeper once again being triggered by Quaker of all people.

    Not really sure where to post this, but since chicago is full of progressive liberals, thought this was a good spot.

    Turning left at a major downtown intersection this morning, the light turns yellow, the car and I in the intersection wait for the oncoming cars to turn then we turn. A Chicago cop was coming the other way and pulled me over for "running a red light"

    Asked for my insurance card, and I have an electronic copy of this which she tells me that she cannot accept this and that it had to be a physical hard copy of proof of insurance. So I got a $500-$1000citation for driving without insurance. Now this can be forgiven if I show up to court in mid June and show proof of insurance which obviously I can do. But they actually took my drivers license and I can't get it back until my court case.

    Also, I apparently don't have a "city sticker" which you need to buy to be able to live in Chicago. That's another fine/citation.

    So 3 citations, took my drivers license, and I was 30 min late to work because this all took about 45 minutes. All because I turned left at a yellow light and some cop saw that as a red light violation.

    DC has the dumbest shit like this too. Common sense doesn't prevail with them, and it's pretty apparent they do this shit as a revenue generator. They feast on people who will just straight up and pay the fine instead of dealing with the hassle.

    Luckily we have an online adjudication system which makes it easier. So far I have received 8 tickets in DC (camera tickets, parking, etc) and I've only had to pay half of one because I took the time to fight them all. /humblebrag

    I received a red light ticket in the mail a few months back. Wrote a hand-written letter claiming it was an area I wasn't familiar with (had to get off the highway two exits early due to an accident) and that I didn't have any prior traffic violations in Chicago or anywhere else. Basically made a really solid case for why I should be given a warning.

    They sent me a letter saying "you broke the law. Pay the fine."

    Like I said, fuck Chicago.

    They are very serious about getting that revenue. The only ticket I paid in half was for not moving my car on a street sweeping day. I legitimately forgot, and told them that and asked for leniency. 50% of the tickets I "won" was because they took over 6 months to respond, which is apparently the statue of limitations on making a decision during the adjudication process in DC. That's why I am pretty much sold on the fact they just bank on people not giving a fuck and paying the fines, instead of actually taking the time to respond to anybody who contests their bullshit tickets.

    Anyway, props to Chicago for nailing you twice now. It's not like they have any other serious crimes to worry about...

    Contest it.

    You aren't really supposed to enter the intersection unless you can clear it but that's almost impossible in a large city traffic environment. Once you do enter the intersection, however, and it sounds like you did so when the light was green or yellow, you have an obligation to clear the intersection no matter the light color once you are able. If you entered when it wasn't red then you didn't run a red light.

    Good luck though, it's your word against hers regarding what she saw. That usually doesn't go too well.

    The other things seem like a lost cause. Maybe a traffic court judge will drop the red light citation and just make you pay the fines for the others. Crappy deal no matter how you look at it.

    According to the cop, it needs to be printed out and able to be physically shown to a police officer.

    Maybe one of these days I, or somebody else will start a topic about Israel. But for now, I have never been able to understand the anti-Israel sentiment that many people have.
