    Varney talks Trump's accomplishments

FBN's Stuart Varney breaks down President Trump's achievements 201 days into his presidency.

This is day 201 of the Trump presidency. We are told by the media that he has achieved virtually nothing.

Well, consider this: by going after illegal immigration, illegal border crossings were down 64% in May. No other president has been able to do that.

On energy, the president has made America the dominant energy power. Oil and gas drilling permits speeded up. Fracking encouraged. It’s America that holds the key to oil prices, not OPEC.

In Syria and Iraq, ISIS has seen its territory shrink by one third. The president said he would destroy ISIS. He's clearly making progress.

On North Korea, Mr. Trump’s team has secured the most biting sanctions ever. And he's assembled a military force that’s probably capable of shooting down NoKo missiles. Haven't seen that before...

Let’s not forget the appointment of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, and legislation to make it easier to fire people at the Veterans Affairs Department.

And one last one...since the inauguration, the value of stocks has gone up $2.3 trillion; since the election, $4.1 trillion. Since the inauguration, over one million new jobs [have been created].

    {{Not to mention the significant rollback of ridiculous regulations, with many more yet to go. }}

    1. Virtual no legislative victories. No budget yet and he debt ceiling is looming...
    2. Illegals. Perhaps the illegals have gone down since Jan, but they were going down before Trump. Maybe his actions increased that.
    3. A lot of those energy projects were probably in the pipeline for those firms for years. We already were killing it with shale and natural gas. Seems like the market is just keep on keeping on. Trump may be a part of that, but it is not his accomplishment.
    4. ISIS. Trump hasn't really changed policy since Obama on ISIS. It is largely the same. The policy was slowly working before he took office and now the Iraqis and others are continuing the work of the past year plus. Sure U.S. airstrikes may have increased, but things are largely the same as under Obama. I'll give him credit for the Syrian strike though. But, he has many many bigger issues now to figure out. Number 1. What to do with the Kurds?
    5. The sanctions are North Korea are great. But, China is really the only country that can enforce it. So...let's see how Trump figures that out. Plus, the sanctions don't do anything to fix the problem in the long term. The Norks still have nukes and missiles.
    6. Gorsuch was a home run for the conservatives.
    7. I'd say it again, be careful with the stock market as all Trump...It was not all him. It is a complex series of factors. The stock market is a poor indicator of the overall health of the economy.
    8. Regulations can easily be changed depending on the party in the White House as well as written by Congress. So, Trump's accomplishment there could easily be undone.

Finally, It is FBN, so they are so freaking pro-Trump, anything they say has to be taken with a huge grain of salt. They may just be spouting great things cause they know Trump is watching and they want to make him feel better.

More bills from congress signed by Trump than same period for obama, and also Bush I believe.

A 60% plunge in illegals is due to one thing --- Trump

Shale plays and fracking are the result of republican states not standing in the way of progress, plus the green light from Trump

ISIS ---- we have a clear mission

N Korea --- 15-0 security council vote, to include China and Russia

    Supreme court win

Markets are 6 months ahead of future economic activity

FBN and Mr. Varney are pro free markets; it's pretty simple.

OK, sure.... Agree to disagree. I do enjoy how now a UN Security Council vote is a big deal now. It is nice, but just one step. The Norks still have ICBMs and nukes.

Trump sounding all Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction with his recent quote, "North Korea had best not make any more threats to the United States” or “they will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.”
Also, he sounds exactly like their own propaganda.
From a recent Nork statement: “As the gangsters of the US remain unabated in their mean and heinous provocation, the DPRK will further increase the strength of justice to thoroughly eradicate the cause of war and aggression and never back away from this fight to a finish.”
Kinda sound like they are cut from the same cloth....

    Good luck.
The statistics stand as they are.

The attempt to imply correlation is, at best, confirmation bias rooted in indoctrination. At worst, it's out-and-out dishonesty.

    Trump this AM:
"My first order as President was to renovate and modernize our nuclear arsenal. It is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before...."

Not really. All he did was start the process for a new Nuclear Posture Review.
Obama and the DOD actually started the renovation with the awarding of the new bomber, the plan for the new Ohio Class subs, and starting the study for a new set of ICBMs...

Way to parrot the talking point this AM....
  • QuakerOats
    It's actually just common sense.
  • ptown_trojans_1
I doubt it, but hey if nothing else has worked, why not try threatening nuclear war?
I'll give it to him for creativity and it did lead to an awesome 47 paragraph North Korean response.

So, when engaging someone insane, one ought to act insane?

I'm sure that makes sense to some.

What Donald is going to do is not get Americans killed....he's going to get innocent people killed because he's stupid.

Trump isn't acting. He and Kim are alike in many ways. To borrow a character from Jim Rome, "Likes-to-Fight Guy" is our president.

If Trump took a dump in the middle of the Rose Garden, you'd probably commend him for finally fertilizing the grass Obama spent eight years neglecting.

Did you say the same about JFK?

    Oh come on.
Trump's off the cuff remarks pail in comparison to JFK prepared remarks during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
JFK gave a clear prepared thoughtful policy statement regarding the threat while Trump just threw out words that came to the top of his head to sound tough. Plus, his words were not vetted by other members of the national security team while JFK's were written with input from his EXCOM.

I wasn't around for JFK, but if he'd "spoken the language" of an insane person, yes. I would have.

    Military and intelligence officials agree with the message, as they should;
That is not accurate. The article indicates support from two former CIA station chiefs, one of Trump's deputy assistants, a guy from the Heritage Foundation and a writer for a right wing news service. Representing that tiny group as "military and intelligence officials" (which implies a widespread collective) is dishonest. If you were a reporter, you'd be guilty of FAKE NEWS.

If Trump cured cancer, ptown would complain about all the doctors he put out of business.

If Trump murdered a baby on live television, QO would talk about how evil that baby was going to be if it grew up.

Okay, okay. Apparently, some housecleaning is in order.

    - I support the Second Amendment to the degree that I think the laws currently on the books are already too restrictive.
    - I support the right to free speech, meaning I think college campuses should not be censoring Trump supporters or supporting areas on campus where vocal Republicans are not allowed to go.
    - I think things like "safe spaces" (in their current conception, being "triggered," and the move to call some free speech aggression are utter nonsense, and they should be dismissed as such.
    - I oppose the federal income tax (as well as the state and local, mostly), and I think the IRS causes far more problems than it solves and should be abolished.
    - While I would fervently argue that there is more nuance to the racial issues we experience in the country right now, I'd say that those who attribute it ALL to systemic racism and wealth inequality are naive and wrong.
    - I believe any business, individual, or clergy member should have the right to refuse to serve any customer for any reason they wish.
    - I oppose wire-tapping on private citizens without cause and warrant.
    - Feel free to go back and look; I was vocal about the fact that I thought Obama was an awful president. All posture. Little substance.
    - I oppose essentially every social program in existence, particularly at the federal level.

So yes. Please. Call me left-wing again. That was cute.

The fact that I don't feed into the rah-rah-America, military-can-do-no-wrong, interventionist, aggressive foreign policy bullshit doesn't make me a liberal.

The fact that you gulp it down like a baby suckling on a tit, however, makes you sound like a cheerleader, more interested in painting the home team in the best light, reality be damned.

    LOL. Thanks for the chuckle.
So far Tump has only really done two things I could get behind, the Syrian strike and yes he has cut some fat regulations.
Otherwise, I haven't agreed with largely anything he has stated or done.

That said, I have an open mind on his approach to North Korea as every other idea at this point has failed. Hey if acting like a nutjob and speaking their language works and brings them to the table, sweet.
