You see some dinner thing a month or so ago where the candidates mock each other and take jabs at themselves? Trump said something like 'Michelle obama gave a speech and everyone praised annd loved it' when my wife gave the exact same speech people hated it.....' paraphrasing of course.sleeper;1823652 wrote:Maybe we can hear Michelle Obama's speech in all 5 of them! -

I just had to explain to a fucking 50-something-year-old that the electors within the Electoral College could not be charged with treason if they don't vote in accordance with the majority of their states. I had to explain that the EC isn't an actual governing body. I had to explain that in some states, it's completely legal, and in other states, the penalty is a fine.
This motherfucker thinks the penalty should be death.
And this guy's vote counted just as much as yours. -

+1, it shouldn't be that hard to comprehend.sleeper;1823558 wrote:Could it be that Trump voters were willing to ignore his bigotry and sexism to focus on issues that were more important to them, like the economy and the corruption of DC politics.
I know its shocking to Clinton supporters, but there are other issues out there than just making sure minorities and women don't get their feelz hurt.
Not to mention the democrats don't give two shits either, they just pretend they do to get votes. But liberals (including coa) eat it up.
For the record my mom is Muslim, she was ok with Trumps words, because she despises radical Islam. If she isn't offended, I am not going to go out of my way to get butt hurt. Just like 90% of native Americans say they aren't offended by "redskins." If they aren't offended why would I go out of my way to get offended?
It must be exhausting for liberals to go out of their way to always get offended. If only they used they energy for something productive to society. -
CenterBHSFanThey're bringing in "dog therapy" on some college campuses to help students deal with the stress and devastation of the results of the election process. I'm feeling disbelieving shame of parents who raise their children to be emotional wrecks. Is this the result of helicopter parenting? Parents who raise their children on electronics as the dominate parental figure? Are these kids just emotionally and mentally unstable to begin with?
And, more importantly, why are colleges feeding into this pathos? -

You don't think it should be punished at all or more than a fine? Wtf is the point of voting if the electoral college people can just change their votes against the will of the people? I haven't read into it much but I have seen the stupid crybaby bitch petition on Facebook.O-Trap;1823708 wrote:Sister Mary, mother of fuck ...

Trying to get the electoral college to select Hillary anyway.superman;1823750 wrote:I don't Facebook. What is the petition?
I assume there will be a few faithless electors that refuse to choose Trump as they are obligated (depending on the state there could be no penalty, or at worst a fine) but there's not going to be anywhere near 38 of them, which is what would be required to reverse the result -
HitsRuscould you imagine the shitstorm if they actually did?
The United States is one if not the most stablest and safest place in the world precisely because of our commitment to the cooperative and peaceful transfer of power. This is a luxury that most of the world doesn't have, and that it appears some here take for granted.A handful of electors take it upon themselves to overturn the legitimate election...essentially a 'coup d'etat'.
At best, this would set a precedent that would subject subsequent elections to this shenanigan. At worst, chaos and instability...keep in mind that the popular vote is nearly statistically insignificant....over 50 million people voted for Trump.
People need to be calm and responsible and realize that there are systems in place to check a President that is out of control, if that would become the case. But the fact is, Trump has done NOTHING yet. The media and Hillary super pacs have created a Boogey man. -
ts1227I mean it's not unprecedented to have a couple, but I'd be totally shocked if there were more than 5 (and I'm only saying that high because it's more devisive than usual)

Some colleges offering play time with coloring books and play-dough to help with depression ----- it is literally unfucking believable. What an embarrassment the coddled, the bozo parents, and colleges have become. Here is a letter that was sent to students at a grad school in Ohio ---- I kid you not. Imagine having costs built into tuition for all this bullshit, and it is rampant at every university: diversity departments, counseling departments, yada yada yada. This is the result of cultural marxism run amok; we should be ashamed we allowed it to happen, and parents should be admonished for not raising stronger and independent children.
Students,

I think you might see a few more than 5, but it won't come anywhere near the "needed amount". Also, I have seen that it wouldn't even matter because the decision somehow goes to the Senate. Not sure if that is correct or not.ts1227;1823767 wrote:I mean it's not unprecedented to have a couple, but I'd be totally shocked if there were more than 5 (and I'm only saying that high because it's more devisive than usual) -

I didn't actually say that it shouldn't be punished, or that it shouldn't be anything more than a fine. That IS my position, but I didn't say it.iclfan2;1823749 wrote:You don't think it should be punished at all or more than a fine? What I did say is that it isn't, and shouldn't be, death. It's not an act of treason.
As to your question, the point is that your vote does determine who those people are. The electors are not homogeneous, politically unsettled people. If the state goes red in the election, then the people chosen to be the Republican electors become part of the EC.
This is why that petition will mean exactly dick. They are, in essence, petitioning Trump supporters to switch their vote. This leads me to believe that most of the people who sign this shit don't actually know how the EC works.
So as far as I'm concerned, a fine and the bad press would be more than enough to deter an elector who already supports one side to not switch.
