The CT shooting and gun control

PrescottI am outraged and saddened by the loss of life in Newtown, Ct. I equally saddened by the 3288 abortions performed everyday in the U.S.In my mind these abortions are the murder of innocent children as well.

If that old man didn't have a gun, which he claims he wants taken away, those 2 kids wouldn't have been shot. The old man did in fact have a gun, and he killed the 2 kids, then it's they got what they deserved? isadore has no clue what the hell he supports and what he doesn't. Webbie's right. What a f*ckin' hypocrite.LJ;1344031 wrote:Funny, you just advocated for the slaughter of children not too long ago on here.... -

I'd rather the admins focus on implementing the action plan and helping get the kids to safety. Admin chasing a shooter around is likely to end up a dead admin.ccrunner609;1344085 wrote:administrators if they want. The people here in mass don't want such a restriction. They don't want it because of the significant impact it has had and it's place in our culture.BoatShoes;1343857 wrote:They keep guns out of the hands of criminals in the United Kingdom....a country very similar to us but more secular, more accommodating of gays, atheism, decadence, narcissism, instant gratification, non-traditional families and welfarism than the United States.
Yet, more people are killed in America by a gun every day than in a year in the UK.
It doesn't matter what other countries have done successfully or not. What matters is the wishes of the people. -
gutAt the end of the day, for all the talk that will come about gun control, etc...this guy only gained access to the school because of what appears to have been lazy adherence to procedure.
I don't have any real preference or position on gun laws. But stricter gun control is not a solution, IMO. -
believerThe bottom-line is we can outlaw guns, knives, spoons, shards of glass, fists, clubs, and baseball bats and evil will still exist.
I have a hunch that if we'd ask the parents of the Chinese kids who were stabbed if they care whether their kids were assaulted by a gun or a knife it wouldn't matter. All they know is some lunatic attacked their children.
I am sick of the leftist media capitalizing on these tragedies. They are part of the creation and glorification of the problem. I marvel over idiots like the liberal Hollyweird elite for attacking conservatives for their stance on gun control while they churn out garbage movies and television programs chock full of "gun violence." I am burned out on listening to leftist politicians capitalizing on these tragedies as an excuse for the continuation of the undermining of our Constitutional rights.
Only when these ASSHOLES begin to realize that it's not about gun control but a moral decay of our society that they are helping to perpetuate, then perhaps tragedies such as these may become a little less commonplace. -

He has an automatic weapon and body armor. Unless your admin is a former SEAL he ain't stopping shit.ccrunner609;1344140 wrote: The guy was outside the office shooting his way in the door. He could of been dropped before he ever shot at anyone.
Control access better. Hope that allows time for authorities to be notified and intervene before it's too late. -

I just think that opens up another can of worms that no one needs to mess with. You make your scenario seem way too easy and way too feasible. I don't think it is.ccrunner609;1344140 wrote:Do you know what admins do during code reds? They lock down also. When a school locks down, EVERYONE locks down and the only way they get out is when the police (sho has keys to the school) unlocks their doors. Admins are usless in this regards. A admin with a CCW could of prevented the whole thing. The guy was outside the office shooting his way in the door. He could of been dropped before he ever shot at anyone. -
gutCCrunner would have taken him out with a headshot from a dodge ball!

WebFireThat's a fantasy that wouldn't work in real life.

ptown_trojans_1I've stayed away from this as it always dissolves into the gun control v. 2nd amendment battle. But, here is my view, and that's it.
Any new gun laws would not have stopped this.
All throughout history, we have instances of brutal violence by deranged lunitics. The late 19th century and anarchists, or the Unibomber, or Columbine.
There is no way to stop someone who is that bound and determined to kill, espeically children.
Sure, we can maybe limit the total number of bullets and fire rate (which is all good and needed laws, rationally). But, if someone wants to do this act, they will find ways to do it.
Guns are engrained in American culture. So engrained that there is no way you can remove them. They are like cars and apple pie. That is just the way it is.
Oh, and letting others have guns does nothing but increase the odds of innocents being killed. More guns, equals more increased chance of someone being off target and killing another kid by accident. It is not the answer and totally misses the real issue: mental health.
Instead the focus should again, be on mental health, and trying to locate and help people before they approach that step of violence. The only thing is, that is not the discussion, or there is no real action towards it. Instead, gun control and taking guns is what it dissolves into, and that's why I just stay away from it all.
If we are really serious about limiting (can't stop it totally) these events, we need a national discussion on the status of our mental health system, and yes, even increased funding in areas for that research into what makes these guys tick.
That is I all I got -
gutObviously access was not controlled if this guy got in so quickly and easily. They may have had the ability, but clearly procedures weren't followed.
Put a fence around the school and control access thru a single gate. This guy wouldn't have gotten within 100 yards of the school. -

I think I read he just shot the locks out on the door. With the firepower he had there was really nothing that was going to stop him from getting in.Obviously access was not controlled if this guy got in so quickly and easily. -

I'd be interested to know, and also what kind of doors. Little too Hollywood for me - I would think it's easier just to kick the door in, and if you can't then you probably aren't shooting out the lock, either.IggyPride00;1344393 wrote:I think I read he just shot the locks out on the door. At least he's not shooting the lock out of a secure door. Of course, I doubt anyone had that scenario in mind when they were building the school. -
LJ
Unless he had a breaching shotgun, this is most likely a false report. More likely the doors had windows that he shot out and he reached in and unlocked the doors. Mythbusters showed that you can't just "shoot out a lock"IggyPride00;1344393 wrote:I think I read he just shot the locks out on the door. I saw that...was thinking it was just a padlock, but it was a regular deadbolt, too, right? But I don't think they were using an assault rifle. Enough bullets into a wood door he would have at least then been able to kick it in.LJ;1344464 wrote:Mythbusters showed that you can't just "shoot out a lock" -
tk421So, did he use the rifle or not? I heard it was found in the trunk but later they said people were shot with .223? Is this media spin to demonize "assault" weapons or have the police actually said a rifle was fired?
-
gutReports I saw said some of the victims had as many as 11 shots. I don't see how an automatic wasn't involved.
-
LJ
No. Breaching involves actually shooting out the whole jamb with a LARGE projectile with a TON of force behind it.gut;1344484 wrote:. Enough bullets into a wood door he would have at least then been able to kick it in.
.223 bullets are barely larger than a .22
