They're just looking for corporate welfare which he tried to mask in the spirit of "competition" and capping how much spectrum one entity can buy "so everyone can play". The problem is spectrum is a public asset, and so anything that in any way limits the revenue from those auctions is unmistakably a taxpayer subsidy.

The White House has notified the Senate that President Obama has vetoed the Keystone XL oil pipeline bill.

    What a God damn disgrace.

"The plan won’t affect the bank’s retail customers, but some corporate clients and especially an array of financial firms, including hedge funds, private-equity firms and foreign banks, will feel the impact, according to the memo"

I just wanted to quote the article since your link heading is "the sky is falling"

Seems frightening at first, but it also seems like the lowest homeownership rates are revolving around large metro areas (NYC) and (Beach) areas.

Call me crazy, but maybe the influx of diversity, social changes, cultural changes, and lifestyle changes, family changes (smaller families) are larger reasons why homeownership is so low.

The average family size isn't 6-8 anymore, a lot of people can put a family in an apartment and be just fine.

The "American Dream" to the under 40 generation isn't necessarily having a 30 year note, especially in larger metro areas?

OR the sky could be falling, I don't know.

Well where it's at now - @64% - look to be about a long-run equilibrium. Contrary to what some may believe, owning a home isn't the right time for many people for many reasons you listed.

And between today's job market and increased mobility, fewer people getting married and waiting to get married longer....you'd expect lower home ownership rates for a more transient worker.

The Republicans should just attach this bill to every bill they send to the White House. Don't they have a bill soon that funds the DHS? Attach it. It's time for the GOP to play some hard ball and make the Democrats the new 'party of no'. I can see it now:

Headline: "Obama vetoes bill that provides funding for children's after school food programs"
Obama response: "The bill contains some language irrelevant to the program including approving the Keystone Pipeline"
GOP response: "Obama continues to let petty political matters get in the way of the health and safety of America's children"

    Love it.

someone on the news was talking about Keystone....said it had bipartisan support, and had support of labor, but Obama was choosing to side with his green enviro nuts

Can someone throw out some Pros & Cons of Keystone Pipeline?

The problem with this plan is the media carrying water for Obama.
The media will blame the GOP and the sheeple will eat it up.

Yeah, I love the spin on MSNBC "they're breaking campaign promises, not governing, and being unproductive by sending bills they know Obama will veto"....translation: you're being obstructionist when you don't go along with OUR agenda.

Other Presidents found common ground to get stuff done in their final years with an opposition Congress...Obama, ever the trendsetter, is going the route of veto and executive action.

I guess they'll have to play his game if Obama is going to make it about politics rather than governing. They HAVE to stand up to that power grab/abuse. He's not king.

Most of America doesn't consider MSNBC a legitimate news agency. It is nothing more than a propaganda outlet for the "progressive" (read socialist wing for the democratic party.)

I think MSNBC is worse than Fox but they are both the same level. I can't watch either show but MSNBC is such a piece of shit network.

Or, it is because many would-be home buyers have taken on enormous student loan debt, plus tight credit, plus lack of good job opportunities, plus lack of confidence in the future (jobs etc.), plus anemic economic growth etc..etc...

Pros: Jobs, however temporary they may be.
Cons: I'm sure the neo-liberals have some kind of environmental complaints. And the little thing about seizing private property here and giving to a foreign corporation.
  • Cleveland Buck
There is a simple reason why home ownership is down. Because people can't afford the houses. When the prices were falling to bring them to a market clearing price, the government fired up the printing press and impressively put a stop to it. So now the bankers and foreign governments own all of our real estate, and the people can not afford it.

I'm sure there are pros for the oil industry as far as ease of transport and what not. That really has no bearing on why Congress should allow it or not.

Just giving you some of the pros. Not to mention it is safer to transfer it by pipeline as opposed to rail (i.e. see WV train wreck last week), and the fact that we already have over 2 million miles of pipelines in the US which function well, so what is another several hundred miles? The fact is, it has been turned into a platform for the radical left-wing earth worshipers, of which this administration maintains a full-fledged membership.

So the ONLY pro of building a keystone pipeline is to create jobs that won't even be there permanently? I admit I know very little about all this but I find that hard to believe?

What more do you think there could be from an oil pipeline? They aren't building a hospital that cures cancer. That's like asking what would the pros be if the government tore down your house and neighborhood and built a Walmart there. The pros are there would be another shopping option for the local consumers and jobs for people to run it. It isn't some great gift to society that should overrule someone's right to their property.
