How sad that things have gotten so bad your only recourse is to compare them to the Bush's in order to try and prop up Obama. I remember when the libnuts once believed in hope and change...

The only federal funds that should be spent on the first lady are for security and when she is traveling with the president on official business. She is not elected and unless she is appointed to federal office she is not a part of the federal government.

    So succinct. Bravo. :)

Agreed, although being the politically correct American I am I would change the phrase to "child fitness". It would also help if she would lead by example and do a 5K or 10K every now and then. W may have drawn a lot of criticism, but that guy was in shape.

Hypothetically, what if the Obama-loving media hadn't pulled Obama from relative obscurity to overtake Queen Hillary in 2008? What if Hillary had become POTUS and Bill - as former POTUS - became First Lady? Would he deserve those federal funds? Just askin'.. ;)

It's an individual and family problem. I'll thank the first lady to butt out of my business.

Ladybird Johnson's was beautifying America. Nancy Reagan's was the war on drugs. Laura Bush spoke out in favor of literacy programs. Now Michelle Obama is trying to do something concerning childhood obesity and now it's no longer OK for a sitting First Lady to pursue her project. While I can understand where that comes from, I can only shake my head that many of you are so blatant about it.
So a bunch of fat lazy video-gaming kids, compares to drugs and make our country look nice? Literacy programs dont compare either, because if you cant read, you cant get an education, you cant work.

It is not the governments job to tell people how to eat. Arnold and the NFL both have plenty of programs to help keep kids fit. If the parents dont care, why should our government.

Am I way off base here?

Uh oh....you just asked the First Lady to butt out. Are you insinuating that just because she's black woman she automatically has a butt?

Careful...Stlouiedipalma will play the race card.......:D

Thanks Writer! I wonder if this is the Gold or Platinum card?

Yeah I just read this and they were also just discussing it on Fox News. Can't say that I'm shocked.

Another pathetic jobs report, but no one should be surprised. When young radical marxists are in charge of what was once an energetic capitalist economy, this is what you get.

    Change we can believe in.........

How about instead of worrying about some fat brats, the admin worry about TRIMMING and SLIMMING our BLOATED budget. Just a thought.

Fixed to reflect liberal talking points.

Then why aren't you hammering him for not working with the President like you have hammered the President before??

Not getting this done because the President wants to end tax cuts for Boehner's rich buddies....how fucking petty!!

Get this shit done....this was the best deal the Republicans were going to get....everything they wanted was included, yet they are too bullheaded and stupid to get this done because they don't want to piss off their base....and who should be ashmed of themselves right now?

I'd say the party that doesn't have the balls to actually put a budget on paper should be the ones who should be ashmed.

Exactly. The Senate (controlled by Dems) hasn't passed any budget in over 500 days.

It's been over 800 days, but who's counting when it's all Bush's fault.

So Ty, tell us whom the senators work FOR? Who's their boss? Should their boss be upset because they aren't doing their Constitutionally-mandated duties?

What HAS Harry been doing anyway?

    You're right- I'm a year behind.

BTW, here's what Harry's been doing:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's spokesman says the GOP is trying to take the "easy way out."

"Senator Reid remains firmly committed to getting the most robust deal possible. He stressed the need for an approach that is balanced between spending and revenues, in terms of timing, specificity and dollars. Senator Reid believes the stakes are too high for Republicans to keep taking the easy way out, and he is committed to meeting every day until we forge a deal, however long that takes," spokesman Adam Jentleson said in a statement.
Dude is the standard-bearer for hypocrisy in Washington. Nothing says "easy way out" like failing to pass a budget in over 800 days.

Agreed, she could do a 5k or something every once in a while and it would be a good thing especially since I'm sure she would be quite the draw for a charity run.

You've got to be joking right?

Us being the fat country is more than a damned family problem. It costs us tons of money in healthcare costs as well.

Fat tax coming to a country near you.

This is the cynicism of conservatives that I was talking about in the other thread. No it isn't.
  • tk421
How else does the government solve a problem? You think the First Lady, or anyone else, is going to be able to change our culture just by herself? The only way to do it would be to make it unappealing to be fat financially. Otherwise, there will always be tons of fat people in this country.
  • I Wear Pants
Who said one person has to change the culture by themselves?

But educating people is a good thing. Same thing is done about brushing your teeth and fire safety and a whole host of other issues.

Programs need to be out there, and they are, that educate people on the benefits of healthier lifestyles and make them appealing. We can't afford/don't want to be the Mcdonald's/TV culture anymore.
