We have government suing government. We have a state trying to remedy a very bad national problem that the Feds for whatever insane reason refuse to resolve. We have classic states rights vs. federalism. It's basically one family member suing another.Paladin;420825 wrote:Well, for sure the courts will settle who is right & who is wrong on the Arizona law. And you see this as an issue of "patriotism" or right vs, left issue? C'mon.
Even Democratic governors are asking BHO to back down on this issue because they know it's political suicide: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/12/us/politics/12governors.html -
PaladinNo, I'm sugessting that people can not put down their ideologies. Should the state lose vs the Fed. govt, as I expect, you would think that folks would accept the decision & more on, accepting in a patriotic way , our system of addressing problems . And if it goes to the Supremes, you are going to see real sweat from the Conservatives there as there are many issues that the court will be reluctant to rule for the state.

Accepting in a patriotic way? You lefties kill me. Our system of "addressing problems" is a huge FAIL on the Federal level so the states are finding it necessary to do what the Feds refuse to do. Yeah that makes me want to set off fireworks and sing "God bless America." -

CenterBHSFanGibby, perhaps (not sure here, but this is what I think) you might be a little too young to remember the general all-around good will people felt about Reagan at the time. Mainly due to the fact that he made Americans feel good about being American.
Something you don't see today... -

I miss that time when an American President and his administration made us feel good about BEING Americans -- we sure as hell don't see that from this bunch in power. -
cbus4lifeI still feel great about being an American...

Reagan 1984-1989, greatest since Ike.
And, yes I still feel proud to be an American.
Believer: I saw that article the other day about the Governors. It is not a surprise. Given the economy and state budgets, no one wants to tackle immigration. -
CenterBHSFanDon't get me wrong, it's not like I don't feel good about being an American. That's not what I was implying.
I guess I was wrong in thinking that people would get what was implied. lol -
cbus4lifeI get what you were implying, and just don't understand how Obama is doing anything to make people feel bad about being American...
Examples?
Seriously, aside from a few speeches where people felt like he was "apologizing" for us, which he wasn't, i can't think of anything. -
CenterBHSFanYou don't remember Obama mocking people after his health insurance bill passed?
How about not uttering one damn word after Cheron's antics?
Hell, even our First Lady wasn't proud to be American until her ..... well... we all know that travesty.
And that's just a few of MY personal unfavorites.
I mean, I can understand how easy it is to forget about moronic and rampant stupidity when the guy you voted for is still in office. But, on the other hand, you can't expect other people to not remember and easily recall it. -

Per QO's post/link:
The Obama administration said this week that there is no reason to sue so-called sanctuary cities for refusing to cooperate with federal authorities, whereas Arizona's new immigration law was singled out because it "actively interferes" with enforcement.
How the hell can it "interfere" with something that's NOT being done?
Can somebody figure that out for me?

Because when it comes to Beltway politics it's one thing to put Federal laws on the books that look good on political resumes' but it's another thing altogether to actually enforce the laws because - heaven forbid - it might piss off a voting block or two.CenterBHSFan;423711 wrote:Per QO's post/link:

The reason the Feds have their collective panties in a bunch (or at least the leftist morons calling the shots) is because they do not want to admit that they are inept at doing anything except spending taxpayer dollars. To have Arizona actually be proactive in enforcing national immigration policies embarrasses the Feds because it exposes their failures to secure our nation's borders.
It's never about what's right for the country. It's always about saving political face. -

9 states file brief in support of AZ. The actions of obama/holder are appalling. -
CenterBHSFanPer Q.O.'s article:
"By lawsuit, rather than by legislation, the federal government seeks to negate this preexisting power of the states to verify a person's immigration status and similarly seeks to reject the assistance that the states can lawfully provide to the Federal government," the brief states.
As much as I think the President's decision to sue Arizona, I'd much rather have the lawsuit than to have legislation changed to suit political purposes in the pursuit of voters.
A lawsuit can at least be shot down quickly. -

In the Forest Service's news release about
During the raid, a U.S. Forest Service K-9 team located Gauldry Almonte-Hernandez, a displaced foreign traveler from Michoacán Mexico, who had tried to flee the area and hide while officers were performing entry into the marijuana garden.
"Displaced foreign traveler"? Makes it sound like he meant to go to Disneyland, got lost, and ended up at a pot plantation in the woods south of Hayfork.

tk421fucking unbelievable. This shit is getting crazy. Why don't we just give Mexico the states back cause that's what we're moving towards. Just get it over with.

iclfan2Haha displaced foreign traveler? Really? And 10 years in jail then dropped off in Mexico?

CenterBHSFanWell it looks like things are reaching critical mass in Laredo.
BREAKING: MULTIPLE RANCHES IN LAREDO, TX TAKEN OVER BY LOS ZETAS - TheCypressTimes
This was sent to me by a friend of my cousin's who he met while in the military. I'm not familiar with The Cypress Times nor this story, but an update says that the story has been verified by a member of the Laredo PD.
Snopes shows nothing but the internet lists alot of repeats of this claim.
I'll try and find out more tomorrow morning. -
jmogBut but but, they are displaced foreign travelors just seeking a place to better themselves.
-
iclfan2Why haven't the police eradicated them from the homes yet? Our policy of dealing with illegals is a complete joke, and although I already disliked Obama, his dealings with suing Arizona makes me despise him even more.

Well in fairness, I haven't found anything to confirm or deny that article.iclfan2;431953 wrote:Why haven't the police eradicated them from the homes yet? I'm starting to think that that article is partially true. Or an incident that was taken out of context.
For example: A couple of flunkies from a drug ring holed themselves up in a house while the homeowners skidaddled and police were called. Or something like that.
I don't know one way or another. Let's hope that that is the case, though. -
gibby08Judge Blocks Arizona Immigration Law
A federal judge has blocked the most controversial sections of Arizona's new immigration law from taking effect Thursday, handing the Obama administration and other opponents of the law a major legal victory, the New York Times reports.
"The parts of the law that the judge blocked included the sections that called for officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws and that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times."
