    Yes, snuggly. So true.

    "...dressing like bees..." AWESOME!!!

Cruiser...Have you come to a decision regarding the Autism Tourney?
  • cruiser_96
Yes, I have come to a decision. My decision is that until I'll told otherwise, I'm going to pursue making 185 and wrestling in a charitable wrestling tournament. You have sucked me into what can only be considered a win/lose situation. Perhaps win/tie.

Winners = (if this is still accurate) ALL money goes to help research or care for kids... all of benefits those with autism.

Loser/tie-er = me. I am invisioning slings, casts, crutches, wheelchairs, patches and braces all at once. Perhaps it won't be that bad. Maybe. But if it is ANYTHING like the last two days have been, I'm going to be hurtin' for certain. Tuesday was my first time on the mat going live goes since perhaps "the Mayor" Kwan Bailey* was on our team! SO going live with a kid 40 pounds heavier than me was not a "good" thing to do.

Now, take out the high school kid and insert who knows who... some greek mythological looking character that didn't fulfill his dreams as a D-I college athlete, only AA'ed 3x or 4x instead of winning it, kills lions with his bare hands and can't think past the thought of "KILL!!!!" and I'm doomed! The bears he wrestles can put up a fight... I can't!

So in the end, here's hoping some chain smoking, beer-drinking, out of shape, 5 foot 2 inch guy, who doesn't know a think about wrestling, shows up weighing roughly 180! He's the kind of guy I am looking for! Someone who is willing to help the kids.

And who knows, maybe Tom Ryan and Tommy Rowlands will be there and I'll get carried out in cuffs for violating the restraining order!!! Ahhh, the perfect end to a perfect day.

    ...great moogley googley.

    * Ah yes, "The Mayor" Kwan Bailey. the chatter across the wire has him interested - entertaining the thought - thinking about wrestling in college. Here's hoping he doesn't make Wrestle Against Autism the debut for his return!!!
  • Bitterrunner-up
It's people like Kwan that make me want to wrestle down at 155. Although, I looked at the registration form again, and under the "open Division" it says "over 30". that makes me feel a little better...Unless Jimmy Edwards wants to knock off the rust.
  • cruiser_96
I could take Jimmy. I've been told that there is some type of magic silver bullet or wooden stake that can defeat these types. And thanks to the YEARS of big time wrestling I've consumed, I can hide it in my trunks and strike at just the right time.

  • Bitterrunner-up
I think I can take 'em.

Potter Classic only has 1 spot left for a team entry. Just added CVCA to the tourney! Check out the thread if interested.

I'd like to find some of Troy Henderson and younger brother Brett's matches from HS. Troy was tough but Brett was scary tough....imo.
Brett placed second at state as a Sophomore, getting screwed in the finals on a last second take down call. Brett had an "up and down" season as a Junior, butting heads with Mr. McCunn. As a Senior, Brett was unstoppable all season....other then one time because of blood time. The infamous Coach McCunn heater of a roll of tape across the gym.
I can't remember if Rick Glover was a two time placer. Those goof balls prob' would have been a better team if they all would have bumped up a weight class. Rick would not have made the lineup if he would not have cut to 103.
Today....I think one of Rick's legs weigh 103 pounds.
  • Bitterrunner-up
Is the "Lang" (Brecksville) that beat Brett Henderson in the finals on the controversial takedown call related to Ryan Lang (St. Edward) and Kyle Lang (Brecksville)?

BTW...I believe Cruiser has both Troy Henderson Medina victory over Sabo and Brett Henderson's loss to Lang.

This thread cracks me up. I should be writing a dissertation and I'm doing this instead. Worst of all-- When I finally get to the end, I've forgotten everything from the front, and I have to start over and reread the whole thing. On a side note, freestyle season is here and I can't wait for state and nationals.

All of this talk about old wrestlers got me to thinking today about what information from 1988-1998 I have lying around. My mom was a hoarder of all things memorable when I was young, and when I looked through the stuff tonight I found a treasure trove of old results. Old plain dealers, old brackets from the midwest classic, alliance, etc., brackets from regional freestyle tourneys, fargo, everything. Enough pointless miscellany to fill up days sorting through. Before this thread reaches 50,00, I am going to scan some things so that everyone can see. There are lots of names you all know: Derek Oney, Mark and Pat Neimann, Scott King, B.J. and Brian Petereit, Chance Vangundy, Chris Grant, Curtis Raney and many others. I also have the New Albany tournament bracket from my 8th grade year that lists the full line-up of the best middle school team of the 80's, Groveport South...more to come.
  • cruiser_96
I'm not going to lie... that south team from about 85 to 90 was VERY good. We ended Walnut Springs' streak of who knows how many matches and made one of our own. I think is was 84 through my 7th grade year. I'm pretty sure we lost to Walnut Springs! Whoever Mike Fickell and/or the Westerville North track star... Wyatt??? Doubt that's right.

Sad but true: My brother was the only kid from his class on that GM South team to stick it out for four years of high school wrestling. Oh, so sad. A good number of them were undefeated too!

Snuggly, I have some shwag from TOP GUN with you and I in it. I will scan it in shortly.

You guys should set up a Facebook page and scan this stuff in. How wonderful it would be to see some of this classic memorabilia!

    friends: 30,00

Cruiser, Chance V and J Maynard wrestled four years in high school...just not for your beloved 'port.
  • cruiser_96
I think CVG was class of 94, Maynard might have been 93. Could be wrong on that one though.

It was a bit of a preemptive strike just in case, and, well, it appears it may have been prophecy!!! I'm accepting all applicants who would like to come over for a "Split Screen" Party!!!

    PM me to RSVP!

Please note, that this party is still in limbo as any all preemptive strikes should be followed with "Shock and Awe" and then, ultimately, with heavy artillery leading up to the mass take over! Wish me luck...

I've heard Split tail parties are a hoot!!

How bout making Arnold move his Hillbilly fest to another weekend, stinkin freaks crowd into Schmitds 2 years in a row they all showed up there during the Saturday break, had to wait like 1 1/2 because he wanted to be "with" the people.

Many moons ago there was a bald guy from some weird sock shaped state that really got irritated if anyone talked about some taboo subject, see they "COULDN'T HANDLE the TRUTH"
so from some far away place not anywhere near Ohio, the word went out, " ENOUGH" is "ENOUGH", "Sir I move for a recess, the defendant has rights"..........................
  • cruiser_96
You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives.

And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.

We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

    Just sayin'.
