Westland Sectional

cruiser_96If we had a 16 man bracket with 13 wrestlers, BYE #1 through 3 would be placed on line 3, 14 and then 11.
If in this bracket, 8 wrestlers were seeded, what lines would/could they occupy? It is my understanding that #1 and #2 MUST be on opposite halves. #1COULD go on ANY line he wanted to, right!? Let's say he goes on line 10. Two would HAVE TO go in lines 1 though 8. Let's say #2 goes on line 6.
Based on this info, #3 would have the option to go in the first quarter or 4th quarter. However, #4 would HAVE TO GO in the remaining quarter!
Seed #5 gets to go within any quarter he chooses but cannot wrestle a seed wrestler to start. #'s 6, 7 and 8 likewise.
If I'm wrong on this (according to NFHS or even OHSAA and not some guy west of Dublin), I will double the push-up total I owe a certain coach. (A certain coach that is not the issue here, nor his team, nor his wrestler, nor his coaching staff - be it paid or volunteer.) -
Bitterrunner-upI loath seeding meetings. If criteria seeding is good enough for Ironman and Brecksville, why isn't it good enough for Sectionals? The whole process is a joke and completely unnecessary.

But if we did it that way, we would have never gotten to hear the ridiculous comments made last night, or the one posted approximately 7 posts up (I said approximate). -

Knightflyer150... You reading this! You're going DOWN!!! And don't try to get the snuggly one on your side. He has enough friends in high places. Peep the ineligibility thread. -
Maximus VictoriusYou guys are so worried about Columbus! Columbus wrestling is bad and the officiating is worse. Keep bragging about your accomplishments in the Central District. Cleveland keeps whipping that #%@ at States. Westerville North is smart to get out of Columbus.

And we definitely wouldn't have gotten the pleasure of reading this post. -

pickpantherHere the rule on seed placement exactly as it is written in the seed procedures
"Top two seeds must be in opposite half-brackets. Seeds 3-8 must go as far away from another seeded wrestler in that half/quarter bracket as possible."
Now to me, I don't see how you can go into a 1/8th of a spot of another seed if there is still a half or quarter of the bracket open. If you have to go to the furthest quarter, this would mean 4 has to go to the open quarter that is left.
This is also the way it has been interpreted and enforced for the last approx four years. It has been clarified before every sectional meeting and the are numerous central Ohio coaches that will attest to this. For some reason, the person who clarified this every year decided that this is not what it means. -
cruiser_96That's because you are an idiot, pickpanther! Ha ha ha ha!!!
bw133: you have mail.
Gettinitdone: I will do my best. I'm currently getting ready to sort through the Pick. North sectional and transfer it over to my excel version. Still debating on whether to do Marysville my way or not. Probably not. In any case, it is possible that I can have some projections up. The sad thing is, after looking through all three sets of brackets, I'm so at a loss of who some of the 3, 4 and 5 seeds are (regardless of bracket line), I'm going to butcher some weight classes. And I do mean BUTCHER!!!
Oh well, all in god fun. -
Lou DemasI'm just going out on a limb here but isn't there a rule book with seating criteria? Because this discussion would give the impression we wing it year to year!
Common sense should also prevail, toughness of schedule does matter if your wrestler's losses came by way of placing at Ironman but on the other hand if a wrestler's went 0-2 at the Ironman, you can't just say he had a tougher schedule therefore he gets a better ranking. -

1.Spearman (L)
2.Wimer (CC)
3.Shaut(WK)
4.Straughter(RB)
Haven't seen anyone but Shaut and Spearman wrestle here, but I think it could be an interesting turn out. I like an upset in the semis with Wimer just to shake things up a bit.
112
1.Herrera (WN)
2.Comfort (DJ)
3.Cheng (RB)
4.Johnson (W)
Herrera should walk through this Sectional. He is experienced, technically sound and is a bigger 112
119
1.Strope (L)
2.Jurcisek (OO)
3. Ray (W)
4.Badowi (WK)
Strope Walks away, dominates the field IMO. Rest will be a fun battle to get into the next 3 spots. -
bw133125
1. Davis (L)
2. Varazashvili (WK)
3. Haslam (WL)
4. Simpson (OO)
Nick V. and Haslam have had battles in the past and its always been close, I think this time he will finally get the close win. Davis wins a close one in the finals.
130
1.Ouzts (WN)
2.Nicholson (DJ)
3.Gundling (WK)
4.Parkham (MF)
This one could actually go how the seeds have it.. I know Ouzts pinned Nicholson the first match but i anticipate this to be much closer. These 2 are a bit a head of everyone else, I see Gundling taking 3rd, hes young, strong and been wrestling well as of late.
135
1. Alger (WN)
2. Reynolds (GM)
3. Hauber (CC)
4. Dawson (OO)
To me this will be a very exciting weight class because any one of the top three have serious potential to win this. Alger is battle tested and knows what it takes to wrestle in big matches due to the strength of the schedule. Although, Reynolds has been looking like a man on a mission and is a strong 135 pounder who has solid technique and never stops wrestling. Very good stamina. Hauber also has potential to take this coming from a strong program his freshman year and now back at his home school, i see him being able to shake things up a bit -

bw1331401. Hardy (CC)
2. Jones (MF)
3. Wolfe (WK)
4. Austin (DJ)
Should be an interesting weight class, like Hardy in this one because he has an excellent drill partner in Hauber to push each other throughout the year. I also still like the name Central Crossing. That has some play. The next three are all solid, Wolfe, when wrestling at his potential can definitely push for the #2 possibly #1 slot. Should be interesting.
1451. Toprani (OO)
2. Fisher (WN)
3. Funk (L)
4. Farias (W)
Weight class looks wide open, not much here, give the win to Toprani who looks to be a possible state placer.
1521. Hysell (CC)
2. Moore (OO)
3. Cabajal (DS)
4. Beatty (L)
I again like Hysell because he’s got a good group to go with in SP Pickett and Hardy. Moore is pretty close having a good room with Toprani and solid coaching. Should be interesting -
lowsingle174Jones Owns a win 8-4 over hardy at Watkins 2 weeks ago.. But, support your guy.
-
cruiser_96Is Jones the same guy that has been wrestling for 2 years, oh wait 3. Actually two and a half?
I just want to make sure, that's all... -

All this coming from a guy that doesn't know that when a cradle is locked up there is no loss of control no matter who is on their back until the said craddle is broken! On top of it he arugued it with someone who WAS an AA in college............just saying.Johnstone;682199 wrote:Westerville North Schedule

5. Licking Heights Tournament(Weakest tournament on our schedule and we won it)
6. Rieman Deleware Hayes Tournament (Look up all the teams that were there because im not wasting anymore of my day than i have to)
Match it and don't cancel us off your schedule. The way it sounds to me is that there was a conspiracy against the small man with big arms during black history month.
When looking at seeding, strength of schedule does matter. If i was 25-3 with my losses coming in the finals of the Ironman, Beast of the East, and Medina and Mark Neiman was 25-1 with his only loss coming in the finals of the Cruiser Classic but that was the toughest tournament he competed in all year who would you seed first? Records count and if the wrestler who has fewer losses has a tougher schedule, that wrestler should get the higher seed without question. I wasn't there last night, but from the sounds of it it was a complete debacle and A.D. outwitted all of you.
Some of this is for fun and some is the truth, guess we will just have to back up our bold statements we made last night. I'm upset that I have to work and won't be able to attend because I'm not sure Grant is going to be able to hold A.D. back by himself! Good Luck to all of you with that one HAHAHA -
bw133Well not really my guy, just shows how much i know. I didn't look into this very deeply, just saw the brackets and went with it..
