THE Cruiser Invitational 1/29/11

Actually, for the teams, we contacted the group that does the DII, DIII and NAIA Natinoals. 1st place receives a 15" octogon-shaped plaque, complete with Cruiser logo and tournament name and date under a think peice of either glass or hard plastic. 2nd place gets 12" and 3rd 9". They are pretty solid. They caught my eye in a flyer. I dig'em.

I think people are overlooking Nelsonville -York. They have some real good kids.
  • cruiser_96
Nobody named cruiser_96, though. That'd by equivalent to overlooking, oh, I don't know, Grove City in a dual meet!!! ;)

It's like being a wrestler and saying that the kid you are about to wrestle next lost to the kid you lost to worse than you, therefore you should be able to beat that kid. Every wrestler has a different style and every team matches up differently with another. If Darby went head to head with Westerville Central they would most likely win.

Orange and Kilbourne both competed at the U.A. Tournament and Kilbourne finished ahead of Orange. Not saying it means anything now but it is some information to digest for the haters.

Darby will definitely be in the dogfight. Darby beat Kilbourne in a dual by 3 pts. Kilbourne also placed ahead of orange and Licking valley in 2 of the tournaments. I think it will be Darby, Kilbourne, licking valley, whitehall, tri valley.

yes CountingLights, as I mentioned in this post :).

I know but you're just a junior member, it carries more weight if I state it. :P

Line-ups are due tomorrow at 1:17pm. I can put up initial pre-seeds (based on record) by at least 2pm.

Please note that this is contingent upon snugglyhippo's compliance to all mandates set by tournament director and entered into upon accaptence of contract. Under section 37B of the contract signed by him, it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void if - and you can read it for yourself in this photostatic copy: I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained, et cetera, et cetera... Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum, et cetera, et cetera... Memo bis punitor delicatum!

    Just sayin'.

What time will the finals start?

When the consos are over??? ;-)

I'm thinking 5:30pm. AD says clearing the gym is a must. I told him that it would help us because we only use the one mat for the finals and need to move some mats. To which he said, "It'll give us a chance to clean the bleachers and pull out the other side, as well."

Me: "It wouldn't have to do ANYTHING with money, would it???"
Him: "Did you say the mats you practice on are from 1970 or 1971?"
    Me: "Touche'."

$6 for the pre-lims, $6 for the finals (adults) - I think. $10 for all day.... I'm pretty sure. Sorry, guys. This, along with whatever the concession stand does, is out of my hands. (However, I was recently at a tournament that made our prices look like chump change!!!) Anywho...

Perhaps. But you just might get a free shirt out of the deal.

You drive a hard bargain, you know I'd be there either way though!! ;)

Coaches, coaches, coaches... IMO, for you, the tournament just got a slight upgrade! Our hospitality room is being relocated in what can only be described as a classroom version of a "Man Cave"!!! VCR/DVD/CD player, AM/FM tuner, video projector, complete with computer hook up with access to gohiocasts.com, Cable 9, youtube and SO MUCH MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have my own set of Cruiser Highlight reels, a 2008 DI Central District Highlight Reel (which we will be sure to watch) that I will be bringing. Could this get ANY better!?!?!?!?!?!

Yes. To answer my own question. Yes. Tommy Rowlands could be handing out the awards. Unfortunately, as he stated, he is in Russia. But I certainly will not be unpleased with a former Cruiser Invitational champion!!!!!!! :) :D :)

Bah!!! A couple of coaches have reported problems. Line-ups will be sent later. I have a dual tonight and must focus on that starting at 2:42pm. If the line-ups are not in by then (why I oughtta!!!), I will be forced to post pre-seeds AFTER our dual meet.

I will get them up...make no mistake.

ps: pre-seeds will be based SOLEY on record. Things will change. Guaranteed.

My son wrestled at the Groveport JV tourney last year and again this year. It was run very well. The people that run the tourney are excellent. The only problem I saw was that there were 22 teams and the 4th mat pretty much disabled one entire side of bleachers - there was nowhere to sit. People were on top of people. If you got up to use the bathroom, your seat would be gone when you got back and you had to go find another again. Not complaining - I thank God for the schools that have JV tournaments- it allows those kids to get mat time and to get better, and there are not a lot of schools out there that do put on JV Tournaments.

My son has moved up to varsity and will wrestle at this upcoming toruney Saturday. With fewer teams, I hope that alleviates the seating problem. I realize it's a balance - only 3 mats extends the tournament time but allows more seating. 4 mats, it goes quicker, but less seating. Why don't they make Gyms dimensionally optimal for wrestling mats, and let the Basketball people figure out how to fit their courts into them?

Hope we have a great tournament Saturday!

That is one of the most profound questions of the year! Outstanding. Let Basketball figure it out! ;-)

    Nice zinger zb!

I ask because I have a younger one at a MS tourney the same day.
    Coordination is key!

1prouddad: We agree with the seating issue. And we also agree that it does pose a problem. It is a basketball gym.

In a dream world, we'd place 6 resilites down, add walkways and THEN build the gym! But unfortunately, our district doesn't even have money (or space) for an auxiliary gym.

Last year's Varsity tournament had space (I'm pretty sure). Only 14 teams, max of 196 wrestlers (our jv tournaments usually bring in 230+). Plus the cafeteria will be open as well.

As has been often said, our (my brother and I) dreams and desires are bigger than our facilities will allow.

Also, concerning the JV tournaments... we run two for the very reason you mentioned. Get these kids matches against similar competition.

Hopefully our lack of seating doesn't stain the sport for you, 1prouddad. It is a great sport with a large amount of GREAT people. I hope this tournament can work for you. (...and your wrestler!)

Seating was comfortable last year, Cruiser. I don't recall any specific issues of people having problems finding seats. For me, the best way to alleviate seating problems is to require wrestlers to place their bags & coolers elsewhere (on the floor, along the wall, whereever). Nothing clogs up a bleacher quite like 90 big wrestling bags spread out.

cthelites, I just couldn't resist that jab. Reading Cruiser's posts always perks up my already overactive sarcasm gene and I find myself typing things I wouldn't normally. You know it's all in fun. Looking forward to meeting you Saturday!

Cruiser, what is the start time for the tourney? Got a mom asking me and I think it's 9 but want to make sure I give her the right info. BTW, how are those pre-seeds going?? ;-)
