For me I remember young Curt Schilling throwing 93-94 then I see Diamondbacks Schilling in his mid 30’s throwing 99. So many were cheating then and things like that push me hard to a cheater.
Clemens was great for about 8 years and was falling off and losing velocity....then goes to Toronto and wins 2 Cy’s and kept on going. I’m not convinced Roger was going to ever get back close to the first 8 years....Bonds along with Griffey were the best in the game. Bonds without roids was going on to huge career numbers. Maybe only 550-600 HR but doubles, hits, SB all higher. Just my thoughts
Paul Dolan won some kind of lifetime achievement award from the Cleveland community last night and dropped some kind of non-funny "I'm going to enjoy our shortstop while he's still here but you may not" or something to that effect line in his acceptance speech. It might have gotten some laughs from the bigwigs at this event but Average Joe fan will probably be pissed when they hear it.
Looking at what Cincinnati has done this offseason is down right embarrassing. Technically, a "smaller market" while Daddy NoBucks sits on his hands and jokes about "enjoying" Lindor while he's here. I'm not as much a proponent of an MLB salary cap as I am a salary floor. The fact that Mr Penny Pincher won't get this payroll to $100 million is a joke.

Yeah, Reds just inked Castellanos.

Agreed

Agreed. They have the arms to compete with anyone but outside of Lindor & Ramirez the every day lineup is sad. There are a few other contributors but no game changers. What's also sad is that the booming metropolis/major marker (lol) in Minnesota (Twins) has $40m+ more on their payroll.

Interesting that he chose a small park to highlight his power and help hide his lack of range in the OF.
Reds now have a plethora of solid outfielders ... might be willing to part with one.... enter the Tribe.
.....only problem is you have to part with some talent to get one. Sign Puig.

My outlook on the season if they sign Puig completely changes. And with Astros losing Cole/maybe distracted, I’d have hope again at a run.
Another week has gone by... the Tribe has thrown its winter party.... and no upgrade of the everyday line up which has slipped to 14 th in the latest MLB power rankings ( down from 11th at season end).
RedSox seem poised to trade Mookie Betts out to the west coast.... and when that is done will look to a cheaper corner OF option. Puig?
In an effort to be in good shape for the start of the season, Reyes has dropped 18 pounds.

He could be a monster

Funny that the article I read expressed some concern that his lost poundage might negatively affect his power! I think he still has plenty of weight for that!
His swing should get shorter and quicker. His pure power, I doubt, will go anywhere.
Interest in Domingo Santana. Makes sense.
Domingo Santana....The annual ”lets take a cheap flyer on this guy”.
Obviously, they don’t want Puig.

At least he is in his prime and not some 33-37 year old.

He never had a prime.
Last year he hit .253 with 21 HR and 69 RBI.
Best year was 2017 when he hit .278 with 30 HR and 85 RBI.
Lightning in a bottle guy?
Well, if they sign him, I hope they at least get a club option.

I hope that he is, but I worry that we have too many 5th outfielder type guys on the roster.
He is a RH power bat, not Puig, but also not terrible. Late 20s, they could do worse than 25 HRs from the corner OF spot...like, you know Lonnie/Hanley/CarGo/Allen (though his defense makes up for the power)
^^^^^ Is Lonnie still playing?
I’m going to look it up.
I’m back with this: did not play in 2019 due to injury. Still with the Pirates? Maybe Heretic knows more?
I...think so? I know he only had a tiny handful of at bats at AAA last year, but was hurt almost the entire time. Can't remember the terms of his contract, though, and honestly haven't heard his name mentioned once on the fan blog I read, so he might not be, though.
Check that...did a quick search and he's one of the 54 remaining free agents who haven't signed. So, no one wants his "will break at the first sign of movement" body eating up precious DL space.
