cat_lover gets it ahead of my answers.
Of course, I had to be typing a little story to let him get in by a minute.
Ah well, that’s what happens on a competitive trivia thread. 😁

posted by BRFI think I remember him playing for the Red Sox.
This is a real thought provoking question for me.
Oh.....I was at a game where he was with the Angels. I really liked his demeanor.
That’s incredible to me that he was with the A’s 4 different times.
One other thing about him.......he was one of the few major league players who threw left but batted right...............like me.
And me!

This HOFer never scored 95+ runs in a season, never hit .295+ in a qualifying season, only 1 30+ HR, career high RBI was 106, only 3x 30+ doubles BUT was a 4x top 6 MVP
Name him
Eddie Murray.
But seriously. Gary Carter?
Yogi probably hit those numbers a few times, but not a masher. So I’ll guess him?
Piazza way to good of a hitter, Bench to much power. Seems like a C type stats, though.

Got it
No more diminishing Eddie Murray though
Yeah never ever producing the big counting stats...gotta be a catcher or great defender to get top 6 MVP’s several times

Wow!
I just saw previous comment and add me to the throw left bat right club.

Maybe that’s what it takes to be a baseball trivia buff.....throw left/bat right lol
laley...you aren’t Rickey Henderson by chance are you?

Incredible!
Two guys I grew up with, we all had our birthdays within one week of each other.....and all 3 of us bat right and throw left.
And based on that, you can probably guess who one of my favorite non-Tribe players was. hint: Mets 60’s and 70’s

haha no. But it actually makes more sense than the more common throw right bat left. How do they learn that? I assume you guys bat that way because of learning from dad/coaches who were right handed?

Just how I picked up the ball and bat at a very early age. No one changed or taught anything
My story is the same as Ironman.
Well then that’s just wild. I can’t imagine trying to swing without dominant leg the planted one. I switch hit a bit in little league, but wasn’t very good lefty. Never would I have been able to do it even a little without forcing myself to learn it. Not natural at all.

My family was weird a bit though. My mom is left handed at everything except golfing. My dad is RH but is as ambidextrous as you can get. My sister is left handed at everything except throwing and hitting lol. I’m pretty good both ways but most left handed except for hitting a ball with a stick

As is mine.

I’m predominantly left handed, but for some odd reason, I would serve a volleyball under handed with my right hand, but left handed on an overhead serve. I played tennis right handed. As has been said previously, I just did what felt most comfortable.

If I’m playing tennis I don’t know what to do, everything feels right either way. If i had to choose I’d play with a racquet in each hand
This may be way off, but I feel many lefties are closer to ambidextrous. While righties look like a fish trying to use their left hand. Maybe it’s something to do with the brain with lefties and ability to be coordinated with both, or maybe it’s because the majority of population is right handed so they inherently learn a bit of the righty stuff early...? I don’t know, but I’ve always felt that way.

I once played a guy who used one racquet and never hit a backhand.

It’s true for sure. I’m lefty, golf righty....have never golfed lefty (more than a few random shot over about 30 years.....and I could play lefty decently. I never batted lefty but 1x in my life....line drive single......now throwing looks bad with my right hand but shooting basketball isn’t bad. It’s strange but handy as well.

Yes, for example, when I went to kindergarten, the teacher tried to make me and the other lefties cut scissors with some kind of left handed device with green rubber around the finger holes. After trying it, I said to give me the real scissors and I have cut right handed ever since.

Lefties in my day had the lefty scissors with green rubber covering where fingers go
I’m a hand eye skilled athlete but I SUCK with scissors
