Question #111:

Since 1940, this non-banned, Hall-eligible player has the most seasons batting .300 without making the Hall of Fame.

Good guess, but he tops out at 7.  If you can believe it, that's tied for 55th of non-HOF players in seasons over .300.

Hey, I was surprised too.  I love me some Mattingly.

That number, for the record, includes banned players, whereas the question here does not, but still, that would only move him up a couple spots.

Is this a name I should know or some obscure dude from the 40s-50s?

It's someone you'll know.  He's actually been an answer to a question or two in this thread already.

And it's not Minnie.

Julio was a GREAT guess.  He had 9.

Damon only had 5, if you can believe it.

Oliver fits that criterion.  He (and actually seven others) had 11.  However, there's one guy who isn't banned, isn't in the Hall, and had more after 1940.

Helton.  12 seasons.  Finished with a lifetime batting average of .316.  The only two other non-Hall players are Rose with 15 (banned) and Riggs Stephenson with 12 (pre-1940).
