By far the best Scotch Wisky I have ever had is now Highland Park 18.

Quite frankly it is the best scotch I have ever had and I have tried about 100 different scotches. It is really really good and typically is only about $150 per bottle.

Not easy to find however.

Watershed is pretty good their old fashioned mix in the bottle is actually really good as well.

I’m trying to keep myself to a 5-6 bottle limit. I currently have Buffalo Trace, Henry McKenna, Eagle Rare, Willett 4 year, and Weller SR.

If I happen to find something good I’ll pick it up but trying to wait until I finish a bottle. The exception is next time I’m in Kentucky I’ll pick up a Heaven Hill Green Label for $10.

I picked up their Old Fashioned Mix bottle last weekend. It is fine. I think I make a better old fashioned. But, it is nice and easy to just throw a cube in a glass and pour a few ounces for a cocktail.

How do you make yours?

-Muddle an orange peel in the bottom of the glass

-Drop in a sugar cube, add an ounce of water and mix it to make a simple syrup.

-Add a dash of bitters

-Add ice cube

-Add 2-3 ounces of bourbon or whiskey

-Stir

-Add cherry if you desire one

I've found by muddling the orange before you add the simple syrup you get the more orange flavor and oils.

What part of Columbus

I'm up by Alum Creek Lake.

Tonight, I also have some of the Apple Pie bourbon ready for the game. Been sitting for a month. It is the recipe posted a few years ago on Eleven Warriors. For mine:

-Pour bottle of Jim Beam in a decanter

-Add cut up granny smith apple

-Add 2 cinnamon sticks

-Add ounce or two of vanilla extract

Let sit for a month.

Once it is gone, I use the left over apples to make a boozy apple pie or crisp.

I do this every Thanksgiving. I use a couple vanilla beans instead of extract and usually a bottle of Weller SR. Then drink it with family on Christmas.

Do you use regular bitters with your old fashioned or try any of the fancy st

Nice. I also use some vanilla beans in vodka to make my extract.

Most of the time I use the standard Angostura bitters. I care more about the orange and bourbon.  I've used Peychaud's as well and that adds a unique flavor.

I've found the Chateau Wine and Spirts near Polaris has a really good selection of stuff.  I asked around the Lizardville Beer and Whiskey store when I moved to the area for where to get some good bourbon, and they pointed me in that direction.

I also still have a pretty good source in Maryland when I go back every so often for bourbon and rye.

Bringing this one back just for a humble brag. I finally scored in the bottle lottery. Got a bottle of EH Taylor. (one of my favorites)

I was pretty much resigned to the idea that I would never win, but surprise!

Nice! Which bottle? I have a small batch and a single barrel sitting in the cabinet that I haven't opened yet.

They were not specific. The picture shows single barrel. I pick it up next week so I will know for sure then.

I never won an Ohio lottery. I did go to a liquor store near lake Cumberland and score an EH Taylor Sazerac and a few handles of Buffalo Trace. I’m going to load up before I mo e to Texas because everything here looks to be prices 2-3x MSRP

The EH Taylor I got in the bottle lottery is single barrel. I already had small batch, so I had a bit of each last night to compare. I'm sure everybody's tastes are different, and both are really good, but I give just a bit of an edge to the single barrel.

Brought this back again. This time my wife hit the bottle lottery. Weller 12 year (black label). Love it. Very smooth.

Niiice.

I finally found Old Forester 100 proof rye in the wild again so I'm enjoying a Manhattan right now.

Finishing up a bottle of Blantons. Wife got it for me in June for birthday. I’m stunned I managed to last this long.

A month ago I was lucky enough to come across a bottle of Fable and Folly. Made by Orphan Barrel. It's a blend including what's left of Rhetoric, Barterhouse, and other rye and corn whiskeys.

Absolutely love it.

For my father-in-law's 70th last week my wife and I made him a Manhattan basket, for lack of a better term.

Old Forester Rye - my go-to for a Manhattan that hasn't been easy to find the last year or so.

A bottle of the "fancy" VO since I know he likes VO Manhattan's as well.

A barrel pick from Starlight Distillery that I had this spring and it was excellent.

Also added a bottle of his favorite vermouth (Carpano Antica), plus another brand of sweet vermouth, and a bottle of dry vermouth to make a "Perfect Manhattan" which is half dry/half sweet vermouth. And added 3 bottles of bitters, a cherry, an orange, and a black walnut.

i was beginning to think the bottle lottery was a fugaze. glad to hear someone is winning something from the damn things.

I've been traveling to West By God quite a bit and have been amazed at the relative ease you can find good stuff down there. I got 2 bottles of Eagle Rare, 2 bottles of Blantons, 4 Buffalo Trace, 1 EH Taylor Small Batch, I've seen Weller 12, and Michter's 10, but didn't want to break the bank for them. If you're ever passing through I'd recommend stopping at a smoker friendly liquor plus (thats where i'm having the best luck on these).

How close to Marietta is it? I'm going in for homecoming next weekend.

the one I've been scoring the most at is in St. Albans. just west of Charleston. Also, I've had the most luck on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Talking with the girl that runs it, they get most of their new inventory those 2 days. But some of the pricier stuff will stay on the shelf through the weekend most weeks.

Had to reach way back to find this topic. I have made a couple of additions lately. Here is my current stock.
