I'd say maybe a skosh less peaty than Laphroaig.  Like I've said, I'm not as big a peat fan as some on here (though I do prefer to have some), but it doesn't overwhelm the rest of the Scotch, so I'd put it higher on my list than Laphroaig.

It's been so long since I've had Ardbeg, I'm not even sure how I'd compare them, but hopefully the comparison with Laphroaig helps.

I always get way more peat from Lagavulin than Laphroaig...my taste buds must be defective lol.

Need to try this Ardbeg...honestly never heard of it until this conversation.

Meh, I did get more complexity out of Lagavulin, so I guess I just assumed that Laphroaig's peat overpowered it, but I guess it could have been that one is just more complex or that I didn't necessarily have a clean pallet in both cases (though I have had Laphroaig many times).

Nice. Your In-Laws must REALLY like you.

They give me $100 every year for my birthday, the bottle was $94 after tax.

Talisker has been my #1 for about 5 years.

Father in Law has a bottle of this. We just downed about half the bottle celebrating my wife and I closing on our house (and a cool $48k profit in 30 months!!!).

Anyone have anything off this list? I'm a fan of Elijah Craig Small Batch, but I've not had the barrel proof. I'm surprised to see Rogue Whiskey on the list as their beer is not great.

Trying to find a bottle of Blanton’s Bourbon for a Christmas gift; basically impossible.  If I can’t find it what other great bourbons should I consider:  Elmer T. Lee (made by the same distillery I believe), or Angels Envy or …?

Being a gin guy, I am not up to speed on bourbons.  Thanks.

I still haven't found a Scotch I like better than Macallan 12 Single Malt. Very smooth. I have also tried other Macallans and they are good, but the 12 is slightly better. Tried the 15, 18, and 20...obviously more expensive as the years go up, but still the 12 seems the best to me.

12 is on par with the 25 year (I think it was 25) we had for my friends wedding while the party was getting dressed. Those 2 stand out above all the others.

Blanton's can be hard to find, and Elmer T. Lee is about impossible to find.

It depends on your price point. For about $40 you can get a bottle of Basil Hayden. It is a good solid bourbon for the price.

Bought a bottle of Glen Moray 12 year recently as I was looking for a cheaper scotch and it was well rated. Good stuff.

I will have to try the 25 year, but if it is only "on par" while being more expensive, might as well go with the 12.

Man, it's been awhile since I had that, but I remember it being pleasant.  Much more so, given the price.

Lucked into a bottle of Eagle Rare at Party Source yesterday. My wife texted me because she was there for an after-work thing and asked if I wanted anything. I mentioned Eagle Rare, assuming they wouldn't have any. They had a bunch, but only one per customer.

That is my go-to. My wife always seems to find a bottle and buy it for me

I have 5 right now as it is so hard to find.

I went to some of the local Frederick, MD whiskey distilleries recently. I've picked up a few bottles of rye and bourbon. Dragon distillery uses some of the mash from Flying Dog brewery.

Dragon distillery also does canned cocktails, like bourbon and cream soda which are pretty good.

Party Source is killing my wallet. My brother-in-law texted me this morning that he saw they had Blanton's in stock and he was thinking of running over. Since we both work downtown he picked me up and we were lucky enough that it was still in stock.

It's never available around here so I tried after work yesterday for another bottle and they were sold out. And I apparently was seconds away from getting a bottle of Stagg Jr. Luckily I was able to snag a bottle of Blanton's today to make up for my 0-fer yesterday.

Same in MD with Eagle Rare, yet my wife finds a bottle every so often.

I love Stagg. It's more rare than Blantons. But, Blantons is a great choice as that is hard to find too.

Got a bottle of Jefferson's Reserve from my in-law's for Christmas.

Decided to buy all the necessities for making Manhattan's tonight. Angostura bitters, Cocchi di Torino vermouth, cherries, and a liter of Old Grandad Bourbon. Old Grandad is my go-to cheap bourbon, and the liter was a good deal. Makes a decent Manhattan.

Got a Glenmorangie Original bottle from the in-laws.  I'm a third of the way through in about 48 hours.
