Did the all nighter swordfish trip in my brother-in-laws 30 footer, 70 miles offshore the southern OBX in the canyon, 1,200 - 2,000 foot depths; wild experience.

Electric reels?

I went 30 miles off Port Canaveral last year and it was fucking awesome. A few guys were on the boat were talking about deep water trips with powered reels. Seems pricey, but I hope to do it one day.

I'd guess I'm the only one on here to do a solo canoe trip into the Minnesota wilderness.

No; we went at night when they rise up the water column.  Had baits at 200'; 400'; 600'.  The night sky was awesome when you are offshore 60+ miles.  Apparently he is rigged up now for daytime swords with a power reel; looking forward to it this summer.  Fishing in a charity deal later this month out of Morehead City; if you tightwads want to donate let me know :)

But why?

Closet medical geek I guess..I was just curious to see it done. It really wasn't a big deal...the smell when he cauterized the ends of the cut was the only unsettling part lol.

This reminds me. In high school I shadowed an anesthesiologist for a bit when I was considering a medical career. I was there for 3 or 4 surgeries, one was removing impacted wisdom teeth, the rest were vasectomies. I did not pursue a medical career.

First time I sat in on a surgery was a teenager with an open femur fracture. He was under anaesthesia obviously, but the way they just moved his leg around in completely unnatural positions was very unsettling. It was already broken, but the surgeons would bend it completely the wrong directing to get it out of their way. That was much harder to watch than the lung transplant I got to see. I can't imagine being in a burn OR because just walking past rooms where they are cauterizing is enough to make me sick from the smell.

More like what I have not done. I will be turning 67 years old this summer and I have never spent a night in a hospital as a patient. And no I wasn't born in a hospital.

I'm 61, and ditto with the exception that I was born in a hospital...knock on wood, brother!

Been in a furnace explosion.

Was in the next building over at a steel mill where a HUGE furnace (6 stories tall, 75 yards long, 10 feet wide, 200 burners, 100 million Btu/h) exploded.

It sounded like a jet plane crashed.

Luckily no one was up on the furnace working on it at the time, no one was injured, just about $50 million in equipment damage.
