That's awesome! You always have that connection to that player.
Coached 2 kids who got drafted into MLB. Once actually got drafted 3 times. He eventually went in the "sandwich" round....comp picks between the 1st and 2nd. Signed a big contract after his initial deal into MLB and then promptly had 2 Tommy John surgeries. He did make It back eventually and the retired couple yrs ago in the comeback attempt.
I still remember calling a local scout I knew after our first practice, kid was between frosh and soph season, as you could tell he was special. Scout laughed and said he was already on the radar!
Even thoughya have nothing to do with his success it just feels good to say ya coached him back in the day!

I know all the state birds. I'm not sure when I learned them, but I'm confident no one else would ever have a reason to try.

"What the fuck are you doing here?"

Was a "pancreas plucker" on a meat packing house hog kill line one summer. My hand got a cramp the first day and I couldn't keep up and didn't get all 1000 done. After work, my first golf swing, the club went about 200 feet in the air. Didn't try any more swings that evening! I was able to keep up the next day.

What did you have one cross country state placer who ran the two mile race?
Before we had daylight savings time and better youth baseball rules, our first peewee game, I played SS, P, and 1st base in one inning. We never could get them out before dark and lost 30-0 in a half inning. Should have been playing tee ball with max one time thru the batting order per inning!

Working in healthcare, been through probably over a hundred births. Resuscitated babies that come out with no respiratory effort or heart beat. Saved most of them, lost a few.

I got my start driving on the roads (rural roads, but still public) when I was 10 or 11, following my grandfather from farm to farm (he was on the tractor, I was in the truck).
