Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the almost exact same thing happen during the 2017 "crash"?

Which exact thing are you referring to?
Doomsday response. Anti crypto nerds celebrating.

Got it. Yeah, I think so.
I was only a passive observer back then so I don't remember the anti-bitcoin FUD being spread at the time. I can't imagine it was worse than what they're throwing out now.
That time seems like a turning point for gaining popularity. I had a lot of friends get into it then, and several lost their ass. Others gained a ton.
One guy I know took a 250k profit and ran with it. Quit job and traveled indefinitely. I haven't seen him since.
I was always interested in it, just thought it wasn't worth investing.
Pocahontas is coming for you, Justin.
Bitcoin requires so much computing activity that it eats up more energy than entire countries. One of the easiest and least disruptive things we can do to fight the #ClimateCrisis is to crack down on environmentally wasteful cryptocurrencies. pic.twitter.com/derGr1bjuq

She's so full of shit it's almost parody.
Nice ratio she's got there. The Leviathan is getting worried.

"Eats up more energy than entire countries". Says who? Well says Elizabeth I guess. I'm hearing this unverifiable claim more and more from politicians. "It's to wasteful", "It aids criminals", "it's competing with our money". All sound like entrenched elite who feel threatened by it. That's very telling.

The FUD is ramping into high gear. We're in the thick of the "then they fight you stage" and probably will be for a while. It's sure going to make the "then you win" stage more satisfying.

What a dumb take and kind of counter to her whole breaking up the banks and large corporations thing.
I mean, if both Trump and Warren are against it, that says that it's more likely a good thing than not.

It's the separation of Money and State. Great for humanity, horrible for the State.

Right. Most politicians I've heard talk against Bitcoin but in terms that show they have not much clue as to what it is.
Whoever said it earlier was right - if Trump and Warren are both against, that's a pretty damned compelling case that there's something there.
Slowly creeping back up. Just got back over $40k this morning.
bitcoin seems to be weathering the storm of this chinese crackdown way better than the others (particularly, the 2 cryptos i'm in) but china essentially forcing their citizens into the electronic yuan can't be a great bit of news, or am i out of the loop?
This is good for Bitcoin long term as it will disperse mining hash rates throughout the globe. One of the big points of FUD was that dirty Chinese electricity was used to mine Bitcoin and it was boiling the oceans. True non-sense, but this should end that talking point. There was also the FUD of Bitcoin being centralized due to so much hash power being in China. Again, it was wrong, but that should now be put to bed.
China will ultimately capitulate and the CCP will start mining itself but it may take a year or two.
I’m just going to keep stacking cheap sats along the way.
When you invest in Bitcoin, is it just like any other stock in terms of I buy now and can sell later? Or because it’s a separate currency, is it more complicated?

You can. It's not a strategy I recommend, but it's VERY common and very easy. You will always find buyers at any price. According to the usgov, it's not a currency, but property, so you will pay capital gains if you sell.
