Are you happy at your current job?

Started at current company just over 5 years ago (was 5 in December).

I am currently making twice as much as I did at my previous company just 5 years and 2 months ago.

3 “promotions”/raises along with regular ones along with the 20% I took to move.

Doing the same job but moved from basically engineer “2” to engineer “3” and another “technical” career promotions (company has a technical promotion ladder for those that like engineering but don’t care about being managers).

Never seen a company do such a thing, so it has been good.

So yeah, stressful at times but like it 5 years in.

this is my life right now. I was told my territory would largely be two states but I am regularly everywhere *except* those two states.

hopefully you don't get screwed like I did

I'm not in sales...marketing, but under the sales umbrella. Most travel will just be local, aside from a few times a year. I'm aiming to install some systems and hopefully keep the travel to a minimum after 6-8 months. Currently only 15 employee startup, so the beginning will be a grind.

Kids are definitely getting worse though.

100% this, 100x over.

Toughness is not longer a pillar of our culture.  Mental, emotional, physical.  You name it.

I like what I do, and for the most part, like the people I work with.  But "happy" is such a relative term.  My kids are about the only thing that truly make me happy.

I forget but I think you said night shift ER RN?

RT here, also night shift, sometimes ER. Game recognize game.

Oh, no, I could never be a nurse. Too much gross stuff for somebody like me with a weak stomach. I'm on the social services/family relations side of things. On my slow nights I will do some tech things, just so the night isn't so long - transport, distributing warm blankets and such.

I have cousins who work here, too. One is an RT like you, one in dietary and one in housekeeping. My dude is an engineer here also lol

i travel and implement a product at wherever i'm needed. i was told my local area had a backlog of work so that'd be my focus. NOPE.

I'm still pretty happy.

Less happy these days, by quite a bit. The last few months have been brutal.

Only 2 months in, but it’s been going well.

I make my own hours with minimal oversight. It’s been an adjustment but I’m enjoying it.

Some travel coming up but not terrible. Going to Dallas next week for the first time.

Just put in my notice and accepted a new job. Big life change after 8 years. My nerves have been a wreck but I'm starting to feel the relief kick in.

Stayed at the Statler. Great hotel and service.

Was there 90% of the time and went to the Truck Yard (awesome place). Overall meh AF city. Stupid humid and annoying bugs. Would not recommend.

Went to Tulsa last week and Napa is next. I did not expect this much travel, but I'm cool with it....for now We are scaling at a crazy rate and I'm hyped.

sounds crazy, but Tulsa is in my top 5 of best cities in the US. I really enjoy it every time I go there.

Hopefully a big change in salary do go along with it?

Curious, did something change with the job/employer? or not change? or just time to move on? I seem to remember you being very happy there.

The last 4-5 months have been miserable, I just needed to move on.

Getting all of the "congrats, I'm so happy for your move" messages have been tough. But it's nice to know you work with people that genuinely want what's best for you.

I got a bunch of gifts/cards on the way out of my last gig. It was a very humbling experience.

No, they've all been great. I golfed with one of them last night.

I still go back and forth almost daily about looking for something new.  It's gotten better, but the first few months of every new engagement are always miserable with the hours and stress.  And some engagements only last 6-8 weeks :(

When I crunch the numbers, every two years of this allows me to retire a year earlier.  6 years vs. 9 years in a more comfortable job really doesn't seem like a good trade-off.  The only real upside I see is if I can leverage my current gig into a semi-retired contract or Board position I could make that move in a few years.
