Bears played a good game tonight. well executed....good play calling...very disciplined. Bears down 21-7 on 4th down....fake punt goes 60? yards to paydirt.....Bears recover onside kick....driving, to end the 3rd. The WHOLE Husky team comes on the field and does hit its (grass drill? up downs?), Bears driv and score to tie it 21-21!! A few change of possessions and Bears are drive down the field.....call time out with .9 seconds on the clock and Mr Michael Graf kicks the game winning field goal!!! GREAT JOB BEARS....Sending these Seniors off their home field with a Victory....RINGING THAT VICTORY BELL 1 LAST TIME!!! MY HATS OFF TO YOU!!!!

Good call on the Dalton game, RedRum. Score was 56-14. Dalton JV played some of last quarter. Not too bad after a shaky first series.
  • BRF
That's frick'in awesome, 1_beast. What is up with the whole team coming on the field and doing that "drill"? FG with one second left....or ".9"...we don't have that tech at Orrville! :-)
  • Hogger53
I cant see Norwayne beating Hillsdale...especially BIGTIME! And as for Falcon fans sitting on Rittman's side...unfortunately there isn't much seating and no place to stand. I agree fans should be respectful of one another. In my opinion, the officiating was terrible tonight. Things got out of hand thanks to some questionable penalties. Ridiculous call on the fumble return for TD.

And some ridiculous calls in the 4th quarter....Personally I was watching the play where Rittman got called for unsportsmanlike conduct and I didn't see anything wrong with what went on.....Sad for the Indians' stud Dotterer, never had a home victory in his entire career. Good Luck to the Tribe next week!!! They beat Northwestern and they finish off the year 6-4 which is much better than the seniors combined 1-29 record their first 3 years on the team. As a fan, I can only hope the underclassmen can take a look at how much the seniors sacrificed and do the same themselves. Hope Bescanson decides to stay and not bolt for Smithville. He has done a heckuva job with these kids

    Congrats to all the winners!

I totally agree.... the officials tonight controlled more of the game then Rittman or Hillsdale, and that's sad. I wish the best of luck to the Indians next week, it would be nice to see them finish 6-4....they deserve at least that much.

Well the Bears provided one of the best high school games I have ever seen. Looking forward to watching on Clear Picture. From the middle of the third period on you won't find much more action in any HS game..
    - NW scores to go up 21 - 7
    - Waynedales scores on fake punt 21 - 14
    - Waynedale recovers an on-side kick which they seem to do just about every game.
    - Waynedale TD as Strasbaugh blows through the D on long drive. What a beast for a sophmore! 21 - 21
    - Waynedale takes over around the 35 with 5 min to go and drives to the 20. Time out with 0.9 secs and the winning FG

This was a quality win for the Bears against a good opponent. Our offensive line won the battle up front and the D did their job. The staff had these boys ready and never tried to do anything fancy. With an all-sophmore backfield and some quality juniors on both sides of the ball next year will be a ton of fun! Heck, next week against Dalton will be a great time.

Congrats to the Bears. Watched the replay on CPI it was a good game.

Can the Bears knock the Bulldogs out of the playoffs? The Bulldogs drop to 9th this week and really need those 12.5 points from the Bears :)

We would only get 8.5 from Waynedale. As I posted on the other thread, here is what the Dogs need to happen to get in:

I got it figured our for the Dogs here are the scenarios:

    Dalton wins +

Basic + Buckeye Central loss + Garaway, Rittman or Timken Win
    Basic + H-L loss
    Basic + McDonald Loss
Basic + Garaway, Rittman or Timken Win + Lakota Win
Basic + Garaway win + Rittman or Timken win

Basic = Tuslaw win, Smithville win,

    Waynedale 4 pts 1st level, 8.5 2nd level = 12.5 points, They won last night :)

not a heter...but must say, im impressed with CF. Hanging 48? on Ashland for the win, then comin into hostile red rider homes field and putting up the numbers on the "red curtain" as well as posting the goose egg. Sounds like the Colts may be poised for a deep run.

Get a good week of practice and take care of business next week...wooster is no joke! (this year anyway) ;)
  • OQB
lol I know you 1_beast are not a hater, but their are a lot of them out there. Clear Fork is the real deal...they played a complete game and beat us! They gave us a reality check for sure, and we will see how we bounce back next week, SHOULD be a great game haha.

Nice to see the bears get a good win and something to build on!

Time to start thinking about All League Players in the WCAL. Thoughts on kids who should get first team looks? I can think of a few who got overlooked bigtime last year. Casey Neer was one of them. Some of my picks.
    QB - Bauman
    RB - Fulk, Blevins
    WR - Turberville, Orr, Schickler
Offensive line- whole Hillsdale team line!! Corey Mullins, Kassa, Kelbly
    Kicker - Graf

Defensive Line - not sure of many of the players here. They do the hard work and the LB's get much of the glory.
LB's - Neer, Troyer, Steiner, Kassa
    CB - Underation, Finley
    S - Wallace, Carpenter
P - Schaeffer or Williams depending on who has better avg. No stats to look up.
    Coach - Williams
Hillsdale would have more kids if they were not so solid all the way around. The whole team was so good that no one kid stood out from week to week. If they win this week, I think this could be one of the five best WCAL teams of all time.
Biggest injury - Jon Roseler could have been best QB and S if he had been healthy. Real shame for him and the Smithies.

MVP candidates? what does everyone think?
  • zoocrew
MVP should be between Wallace, Falk, Bauman . With Wallace and Falk the front runners!
  • 1486wd
you need derek miller from dalton on the d line

think if bauman was on a team like norwayne or hillsdale? i think rittman will finish 6-4 this year
  • Mr. Russell
Just some things about your all league picks, havin fun, and other thoughts about the season.

I think Douglas from Smithville could end up being all-state as a tackle this year, talking to some coaches. Kelbly had a very disappointing year. Douglas would deserve to be on any team over him. He is having an excellant year, but doesn't get any credit because he is undersized compared to Kelbly.

Moore and Licata definitely deserve to be considered as top recievers in the league over anybody except for Turberville.

Wallace had a great year but in my opinion, not the year Bauman had, and I don't care about stats, they don't always tell the entire story. Coaches planned entire defenses to stop Bauman to Turberville and couldn't all year, Wallace has a much more balanced attack. Bauman also took a kick to the house and was a great linebacker. With that being said, for those who do enjoy the stats. Just lookin at the Smithville games, Wallace had sixty yards rushing against Smithville, fifty on one play. 150 or so passing? With Smithville dropping 3 horrible throws that should have been intereceptions and could've changed the game. 60 of those yards were on one screen pass. I love Adam and he is a great kid, I would take eleven of him anyday, especially on the defensive side of the ball!!! With that being said, Bauman is going to win MVP of the league this year.

Kassa doesn't deserve to be on the list of the linebackers, just my opinion. Wallace definitely more valuable, Kassa is slow and just cleans up the pile and talks crap. Good player but not one of the best four linebackers.

Biggest injury if you ask the Smithville staff wouldn't be Roseler. It would be Bates most likely. Contrary to what everybody says, he beat out Roseler in two a days and Roseler likely would have been at tailback a majority of the season this year if no injuries occurred. You could basically say that the biggest injury was Roseler/Bates if you wanted I guess. The Smithies have put up 46 points the past two games with Bates at quarterback playing at 60 percent, compared to 72 the other 7 games combined with Roseler/Leach at quarterback....Travis Lint's injury was also huge and although Dalton had early success, it's obvious that missing him early and getting him back not at full strength was huge!! He was a 4 year letterman. Roseler definitely would have been league's best safety if healthy, assuming Wallace is counted as a linebacker. But to say the best quarterback, people who were around in the summer and scrimmages would say he wasn't even the best on his team.

I was really impressed with Neer as a linebacker! That kid was a stud.

Bescanson did a great job this year at Rittman, we will see how well he does next year without the top QB/WR combo in the year this year. Same with Dalton missing Hackett/Blevins/Lint next year. I was impressed with how Masters threw the ball around in the jv games this year though.

Norwayne and Smithville will be the frontrunners next year in my opinion. I only say that not knowing much about what Hillsdale has back next year?!!!

Hilty is Smithville's best linebacker, not Steiner, but when the all-league selections come out I bet that Meadows recieves recognition over both.

The league has some great kickers, that's for sure! Don't remember such an assortment of depth in our league at that position in a long time.

Compliments to Norwayne's JV team, lots of creativity and style with the playcalling. I like doing whatever it takes to win! Regardless of the level!

Hillsdale has done it quietly but Williams deserves a lot of credit, they have built something special there. No real weaknesses on this year's team!

I always hate when anybody gets injured...McKean, Lint, Roseler, Bates, Wilson, all battled injuries this year and all are GREAT players in my opinion! Some had much worse injuries than others, and some obviously will never fully recover from their horrific injuries....

Most underrated team! Easily Waynedale! 1 Beast, those guys are a team to watch next year for sure! Stanley is gonna be a good one im my opinion!

Finally, Coach Schrock has earned the right to stay in Smithville as long as he wants! The administration and people in the community with constant negativity need to rethink their stance or please play soccer or transfer to Norwayne, Orrville, or Wooster like others have recently. You will not find a guy who puts more time in or cares about the kids as much as Keith Schrock. I guarantee right now he is planning just as much for an 0-9 Chippewa team with his 1-8 Smithies, than he would have for Delphos St. Johns, or Dalton back in the early 2000's.

Good luck to everybody this week, and Hillsdale and Norwanye in the playoffs!
  • Havin Fun
Great comments. I just threw my thoughts out to get conversation started. I agree with much of what you say. Hillsdale returns a ton of kids so I would put them at the top again followed by Norwayne, Smithville and the Bears. Bottom four will be Dalton, Chip, Rittman and NW.
  • Wooster All-Sport
Some good info from Mr. Russell, but I'd hold out my MVP vote a little longer. I heard there might be a big WCAL game this Friday and and want to see who steps up on the biggest stage.
