Fremont St. Joe coach, Todd Drusback to Rossford
-
buckeyefallsDidn't see this posted anywhere, but Fremont SJCC coach Todd Drusback announced that he is taking the job at Rossford.
He led St. Joe to a 9-1 season and into the playoffs in just 4 seasons. He loved St. Joe, but cited financial reasons for leaving.
He also had the majority of his team back for next year (3 graduated) and the future was bright there on the football field.
Good luck to coach Drusback at Rossford. They got a good coach and a better man! -
devil1197Wonder how St. Joe fans are taking this move?
-
KeithIt's a big loss to the Crimson Streak football program that was just turning the corner back to success after some years of losing.
-
rocket streakAs a fan of St. Joe i can tell you that naturally I am disappointed but can say if I were in his shoes i would probably do the same thing. I know Coach D enough to know that he never had any intentions on ever leaving St. Joe when he initally took the job and he loved coaching at St. Joe. Unfortunately it is very hard to support a family of 5 on a catholic school salary. He leaves the program in great shape and hopefully the next coach will continue what Coach D started.

chs71Is Drusback a graduate of St. Joe?
-
Keith
Yes he ischs71 wrote: Is Drusback a graduate of St. Joe? -
buckeyefallsrocket streak is absolutely correct. Coach D would never have left if not for supporting his family. Classy man and great coach.
Any thoughts on who may take football coaching job now at St. Joe? Someone within the program? Anyone recall other candidates back when Drusback was hired? -
irish_buffaloWow, what a find for Rossford. Rossford is actually a great sports town, with a close knit following that has been yearning for their teams to compete again.
Couple Coach Drushback and the fact that Rossford is entering play in the newly Black Swamp League after next year (comparable schools - size wise) and things look bright. -
rocket streakI think St. Joe is up in the air right now because with the consolidation in Fremont the administration is in a bit of a no mans land until it is approved or denied by the bishop. Of course if the Principal could get the ok from the Priests of the schools I guess he could hire someone.
I think there is a very strong candidate (Knisely) currently on the staff that would do a great job but I am a little biased. I know it is a job he has dreamed of and already teaches at the grade school. Really the only other candidate i can remember from back when Coach D was hired was the old gibsonburg coach (peiffer?). -
TeamsterYes you can not be blame Coach D for his decision. From the article I was able to upload from the Fremont Paper his Stock is only rising. Rocket Streak, is there only one candidate from the coaching staff, one has to wonder that with as good as St. Joe was other coaches could be excited about stepping in. Knisely could be a good one he has put his time in. If they open it up from outside could Woodmores coach apply? Wishing St. Joe the best of luck. They are going to be another scary team this year possibly better than last year if the coach coming in continues to build off last season.
-
TinkertrainIf St.Joe were wise they would keep the job in house and chase the ex woodmore coach off should he attempt to apply. Bosh ran woodmore into the ground.
-
bwcomet89^^I agree. Bosh would not be St. Joe's best choice.
-
rocket streakTeamster- he has a very good staff but I am not sure who else would be interested in becoming the head coach. There are a couple assistants on staff who were there before Coach D got there and I dont think they applied last time but maybe they will this time. The only teacher on the staff is Knisely and i think St. Joe would like to have a teacher as HC but i can't say that for sure.
I agree on not wanting Bosh. I am sure he is a good guy but i think they may be able to do better than that. -
JakeGiantI wish Coach all the best.
To an earlier inquirer, he's an alum, Class of 1990. He was a pretty solid RB during his playing days. -
buckeyefallsWith a small, catholic school like St. Joe, I could see Knisely being a good fit. He is still young, and the pay would be sufficient for where he is at in life.
That would be a good choice.
What about Dave Roth? He has a little bit more experience.
Same with Bob Gabel, but I don't know a lot about him.
While Mike Lento is very young, I wouldn't mind seeing him get an opportunity as well. -
Crimson_Streakno to Roth or Gabel. they both dont have what it takes to be the head man or have the time. knisely wouldnt be bad at all but i would like to see lento get the job. he has the football smarts and he was a huge part of SJCC's success this season. as for drusback, it was a great privilage to play under him and for everything he has done for me by helping me play ball at the next level. he was a great class act and i wish him the best
-
rocket streakbuckeyefalls- I agree that both Roth and Gabel are more than qualified, I don't think either has the time(especially in Roth's case) to be the head coach. but they are both quality coaches. Lento has a bright future but i would caution handing a team over to someone who only has one year of coaching experience and hasn't coordinated an offense or defense. He is a great motivatior though.
-
Crimson_StreakLento knows football hes played it at a different level unless you have played at another level you probably dont know what i mean. at the college level you need to be football smart. Lento is the best candidate right now unless someone from the outside would apply and be more qualified.
-
rocket streakI will take nothing away from Lento, congrats to him on playing at tiffin. (FWIW- i had the option to play in college but I chose a different path.) How does that make him more qualified than Knisely who also played college football? I won't agrue for someone to get the job over someone else because my opinion doesn't matter to anyone but me but just because you play football in college does not mean you are qualified to be a head coach basically right out of school. IMO Knisely is clearly the most qualified but we are each entitled to our opinions.

oberhausBlack Swamp League???
-
bwcomet89^^I kind of like that name better
-
SCJJ StreaksWhat about Yeckley? With him being head baseball coach? I think he could be a good look at the head coach position also. With his son as a freshman, it could be a good fit. Yeckley was the freshman coach last year. And is a good motivator. I think Knisely's fit, is best as D- Cordinator. As a player of Coach D like he said expect the unexpected (sorry to see you go). I think Mike Lento could handle the job though. But that means for us players were all in for some very hard practices now. As coach D cut us some slack.

TinkertrainIt is no longer Fremont St.Joesph it will be known starting next year as " Bishop Hoffman High School". See the news messenger's site for details but I've got a serious problem with changing the name of the school to the name of a man who knowingly allowed preists who admitted to abusing children to continue practicing.
-
Teamster
I just went to the site. The way I understand it is that it is call Bishop Hoffman Catholic Schools. The high School will remain Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic. They are just call it Bishop Hoffman.....for all the schools that are being consolidated. Someone let me know if I understood it wrongly. But just read the messenger online upon Tinkertrain's request.Tinkertrain wrote: It is no longer Fremont St.Joesph it will be known starting next year as " Bishop Hoffman High School".
