iref iumpLooks to me like the Diocese is using this as an opportunity to sanitize Hoffman's name after his handling of the sexual abuse situation. Poor judgement followed by more poor judgement?

I know people in the system---including a good friend who is on the Consolidation committee.iref iump wrote: Looks to me like the Diocese is using this as an opportunity to sanitize Hoffman's name after his handling of the sexual abuse situation. Poor judgement followed by more poor judgement?
I was told it would be the "Bishop James Hoffman School District", which INCLUDES---Fremont St. Joe HS, FSJ Middle School, and Sacred Heart Elementary school.
The concept of using Bishop Hoffman name is a sort of appeasement to the St. Ann's Parishoners (Bishop Hoffman came from St. Ann's Parish), who will be now losing their grade school as a part of the consolidation effort.
My friend talked in glowing terms about Bishop Hoffman, and I would also agree that most of the priests I have talked to respected him, but I (like many of you) have concerns about naming the school district in such a manner. But the question was: Would Bishop Leonard Blair approve the name change for the school district.
Apparently, he has, although I was told the consolidation itself has been put on hold due to the HS financial problems.
Wish the best for all my friends in Fremont (I don't live there myself), and in the school district, but I am not so sure about this decision to be totally honest.
Haven't heard about the FB job yet, but it will be a PLUM job, at least for a year. -
wallacefanI just called my friend (who was on the consolidation team), and they DID NOT offer the Bishop an option to change the name of the HS, but he did it anyway.
My friend is OK with it, but the firestorm that has been created is obvious.
Apparently, NOW the consolidation plans have his seal of approval (WITH the required name change).
The News-Messenger site---OUCH! -
buckeyefallsWhat do you expect from the NM site? lol.
-
KeithMaybe Coach Drusback got out while the getting was good.
-
sjmvsfscs08So, what's the deal? Is the name being changed? Stritch did something similar by changing their school system to the be named after Kateri Tekakawitha, but only PS-8 is Kateri Academy, Cardinal Stritch HS still exists.
-
TinkertrainImagine that someone in the catholic leadership being COMPLETELY out of touch with the congragation. I shouldnt be surprised because this is the same group who actually thought naming ANYTHING after bishop hoffman was a good idea. I met Bishop Hoffman when I was a little boy and he was a nice man but you just cannot name a school after him with his connection to the sexual abuse scandal..

always_numba_3there are many people (including some very smart high school kids) fighting to keep the name SJCC across our chest and in the high school.
feel free to support if you are from SJCC or not

always_numba_3here is the bishop's email and phone if u want to help that way

he had sole responsibility for the name change, it was not in the proposal for the consolidation -
TeamsterSo has anyone heard anything about the coaching position, know of any of the applicants, or when a decision would be finalized? Looks like the new coach may find a little bit of an angered school if the name change doesnt get reversed.
-
rocket streakTeamster- it is my understanding that the application deadline is Feb. 19th. I have heard via word of mouth that both Knisely and Lento will apply but I cannot say for sure that is true. They are the only applicants that I have heard but I know they are having an open job search instead of just handing it to one of the in-house candidates.
-
Crimson_Streakim sure lento and knisely have both applied i fully expected them to. im also curious to see what outsiders will apply for the job, that could be very interesting
-
Crimson_Streakwell the application deadline is today anyword on who applied?
-
Teamster
Well from sources I know that both Mike Lento and Scott Knisley both showed interest which I am assuming they applied.....I am not sure on anyone else....Any other thoughts on applicants or who will get the head coaching position at Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic.....Crimson_Streak wrote: well the application deadline is today anyword on who applied? -
buckeyefalls1. The school will NOT change SJCC's name any longer. SJCC will remain!!!
2. As for coaches, someone told me that Gilbert at Columbian applied but I highly doubt he'd step down to a small school like St. Joe.

TeamsterYea I am not sure Gilbert would make that move. I think if he goes anywhere he tries to go to St. Francis. Since this week has began any word with the process thats going to over in Fremont with the SJCC job........
-
rocket streakI would love it if Gilbert did apply but I agree Teamster, i highly doubt he is making that move. Now that the deadline has passed I am told that Geller (The AD) will be meeting with the Search Committee and going over the candidates with them and they will reduce the candidates down to about 4-5 and they will get interviewed. It may behove them to move fast if there is an outside candidate that they want since the HL coach may go after/get the Columbian job, thus opening another MAL job.
-
Teamster
Yeah I was thinking that Colatruglio (SP) may like to head that way from what people have been talking. Well in that case they better move if they want to keep and outside candidate interested. If anyone else knows whats going on keep us posted.rocket streak wrote: I would love it if Gilbert did apply but I agree Teamster, i highly doubt he is making that move. TeamsterWeek has passed by since the head coach application process closed. Anyone got any word on who is in, who is out or how close they are to interviewing if not done so already.
-
rocket streakI guess the hiring committe was to meet last night to go over the candidates but it was delayed till monday for some reason. I don't know why it is taking them this long just to get interviews but maybe it is because the AD is busy with bball or they were waiting for the consolidation to be approved. I know the job at Gibsonburg opened up about 2 weeks ago and they are already interviewing candidates.
-
TeamsterSince yesterday was monday. Any word on progress that has been made with this head coaching position. What are they doing with this, why are they sitting on this for so long?
-
rocket streakWell unfortunately the meeting that was supposed to be last night was postponed because they rescheduled a boys bball game that was supposed to be played last friday night to last night. Thus I guess the AD could not make it to the meeting since he needed to be at the game. Looks like the meeting is now wednesday. Getting to be a little ridiculous now. Hopefully they can get the process started soon and hire someone soon because i heard they already had one applicant withdraw his application.
-
TeamsterWell I am sure everyone in the MAL is happy they are taking so long.....Meaning not haivng a coach around perhaps they arent lifting and training like others so it makes those 17 juniors coming back a minimal threat to those who are training hard right now for the next season. Makes no sense why to waite so long.....Its been well over a month now hasnt it......Well wish st joe the best of luck I guess....Just keep waiting and they may loose all candidates....
-
rocket streakAlright well the group finally met and have narrowed it down to 4 candidates. From the sound of things they are trying to set up interviews with the 4 asap. In an ideal world they will have all the interviews done by next week at this time but that may be a stretch. At least it is a start though. I know the kids are still working hard and training though as both Knisely and Lento are technically still their coaches and they have the kids on a workout program.
