I have answered it many times but you don't listen. They won, it worked end of story.Red Rider Nation;1759500 wrote:And RRfan you are such an Orrville expert but you nor anyone else on here hiding behind a screen name has ever answered my question: Why was Orrville throwing the ball with 1:42 on the clock against Triway with game in hand and Triway with zero timeouts. If they intercept a ball and run it back for a touchdown and win that game do you still have the same opinion of Doug? Sure it worked out for him that night but in sports it easily could have went the other way. I've yet to have anyone answer that question.
Should Florida State have not kicked the field goal at the end of the game to try and win? Should Michigan not have punted at the end of the MSU game. Does the fact that those calls did not work out make them terrible coaches? -

I wasn't at that Triway game because I was scouting that night. But...I will attempt to answer. I am guessing we continued to throw the ball because it was working and had been all year. That particular year we had some good receivers and Lichti was having what turned out to be his best year as a QB at Orrville. I am also guessing that because we throttled Triway earlier that year 41-19, we probably stuck with a similar game plan. If its not broke don't fix it?Red Rider Nation;1759500 wrote:And RRfan you are such an Orrville expert but you nor anyone else on here hiding behind a screen name has ever answered my question: Why was Orrville throwing the ball with 1:42 on the clock against Triway with game in hand and Triway with zero timeouts. The game we should NOT have been throwing the ball in my opinion was against Chagrin Falls that same year in the state semi's. It was freezing cold that night and Lichti was having a rough game. I would have put the ball in Monheim and Tre Simpson's hands and kept it on the ground, but thats why I am sitting here typing this and not preparing for the Wooster game!
I can recall Mo and Mac doing some similar things that all of us armchair coaches questioned that nearly cost us, or did cost us, the game. Huron game in 98...Mac pulls the starters too early and Huron comes storming back and we win by a TD. The Poland game in 99 state semis...we were up big at half and Mac put it in cruise mode only to watch Poland take the lead in the second half and eventually beat us. -

Wow you sure are a moron! Way different scenarios Muchigan had to punt what else would they do? It was a botched snap!! And no you haven't answered my question: 1:42 game in hand other team no timeouts why did Doug have a play all that threw the ball? Simple question and this time why don't you really try To answer it. You can't and you won't! Now I have to get to work sorry I can't sit on here all day like you. Kenton was more talented, but that was it. I was at every one of Norwayne's playoff games that year, sans the Johnstown-Monroe game. The only team they played who was more talented was Kenton. Orrville didn't lose the game as a result of coaching. They lost because the players weren't keeping up (whether because of injury or natural skill) and didn't execute on offense to the same degree.Red Rider Nation;1759392 wrote:You always only tell half the story. Do you really think he resigned because that team graduated?? Come on! Look at that video those boys believed in him. He references Orrville in there a lot. If you want to explain to me that they were more talented than any team they came up against in the postseason that year you are crazy. Kenton, Orrville, Girard all way more talent. Execution and playing as a team is what he talks about! That's the point you all are missing.
And that once-in-a-generation team has positioned themselves to make another deep run this year. What then will you say if they win another title??
Believing in a coach only gets you so far without adequate talent. Conversely, an immensely talented team can pick up a lot of coaching slack. I don't mean to disparage Harbour, but he wasn't even the second best coach in the conference that year. Maybe not even the third. Tom Williams, Keith Schrock, and Mike Thut are all guys who seem to get more out of their kids than the talent warrants on a regular basis. I'm sure Harbour is a quality coach, but up until the title game, he got out of his players what their talent already warranted.
As for the speech, I think I can bring something helpful into this regarding that. You know, Keith Schrock wasn't usually the one delivering the riveting speeches when I was playing under him at Smithville. He was quieter than other coaches, and they were predisposed to being more inclined to delivering motivational speeches.
But don't think for one second that him not delivering riveting speeches detracted from the team buying into what he was selling. Class after class bought into him and his program, because there's more to being a great coach than the motivational speaking.
That and the nasty weather that left the field a wet mess. Smithville was far more disposed to mucking through a game based on their style of offense that year than Norwayne was.Oldest Rider2;1759428 wrote:The only team more talented than Norwayne was Kenton. No way did Orrville have more talent. Girard didn't have the horses either. Norwayne had the one loss because they were complacent and a team that does that and reads their own clippings is due to a coaching error.
Please watch the name-calling.rrfan;1759499 wrote:you are an idiot if you believe that. -

CCRollySaying Orrville was more talented than Norwayne when they won the state title is just ridiculous. That kind of comment causes you to lose any respectability you may have had.

I know you did. I was there! And I was at every game for 5 straight years. Games you all were not at. Doesn't take a lot to know that program is dwindling! Look at the numbers. Am I wrong? Let me guess that's Smuckers fault right? I almost forgot about the kid Flipping the middle finger at the Ashland crowd that night. And nothing was said to him. Everyone saw it including myself. That's why 456 people have signed my document. They won't support that nonsense!Old Rider;1759524 wrote:Like I said...I wasn't there so I don't know the exact details. We WON though.... -

Perfect timing, but the article in todays paper focuses on half a dozen kids on the team that chose to come out after not playing last year....and the Conway kid who will be named All-OCC hasn't played since 7th grade. Says all you need to know. Fitzy & Robinson didn't play last year. The odds of a kid not playing as a freshman or sophomore but coming out as a junior and contributing have to be small.Red Rider Nation;1759529 wrote:I know you did. I was there! 5 TD's scored last week...and all 5 were by kids who didn't play last year (Beatty, Robinson, Fitzy's 2 and Conway). And all are underclassmen....along with Hersh and Domer and others. This junior class is talented and dedicated.
Doesn't sound like a dwindling program to me. Lots of returning talent and a big freshmen class. New conference. Things are only going to get better from here in terms of wins and losses....and you know it.
Your BS petition is so tired. Turn it in to the school board. Prove it even exists. You won't do either, yet you want to us to take you seriously?? -
sanitizerMy junior year we had some really good talent. Just had guys in the wrong spots to a large degree (IMHO). There were a lot of guys go on to participate in college athletics from my Junior class and that senior class as well. Orrville has had LOADS of talent on teams over the years. I have always been surprised there aren't at least one or two more titles in that trophy case. But that just goes to show how HARD it is to win the big one. SO many things have to go right. I can remember Mac and Vodika arguing on the headset over what play to run for so long we would have to call timeouts! LOL! I would just stand there like "what play do you want me to take in"?????
Here is an interesting fact "no high school coach is perfect"!!! PERIOD! I have SO much respect for the kids on this Orrville team! Sure is easy to glide when things are going well and your on top of the mountain. These kids have some "true grit"!!! No quit in them at all! It's gonna turn fellas, keep the faith!!!!
BEAT WOOSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
rrfanCould not care less if the BS petition exists or not...it means absolutely nothing even if it did exist. You have no leg to stand on in your weak argument and that is being kind. Put up or shut up. Take it to the booster club meeting, take it to the school board, take it wherever you want (but we all know you won't you talk a lot but have not even went to give some of your vast knowledge to the coach and coaching staff. It is easy right? You have all the answers Right?

Two summers ago we were worried that Luke Smith wouldn't even play football after he had issues with a collapsed lung. He's gutted out 2 seasons of pretty darn good football. He's tough as nails and I give him & all the kids all the credit in the world. They're working hard. Coach Davault had some very complimentary words for his team in the article today. They're working hard and remaining committed, some even coming to him and saying "we want to turn this around." Sounds like kids ready to put in the offseason time to become better and some natural leaders as well.sanitizer;1759535 wrote:My junior year we had some really good talent. The offseason is going to be the important part for the next few years. They have to have the hunger. If you don't have talent to burn there are things you can do as athletes to get better. Weight room (which is awesome for a high school), work on speed and ball drills. Be together on and off the field as much as possible. It sounds like some want to take this step. I hope so. I will always root for the Riders and those that go through the football season become part of special bond with many that have done it before.RedRider1;1759538 wrote:Two summers ago we were worried that Luke Smith wouldn't even play football after he had issues with a collapsed lung. I will prove it exists as soon as RRfan proves he does! Reveal yourself and I will send you pics of the petition. It is real whether you want to accept it or not. I've done everything on here I said I would do other than finish a book I started writing years ago. I am on to bigger and better things now so that will be a while. Once you get behind a keyboard, you become the biggest Internet tough guy on here. The worst part of all this. We know that this is an act more than anything, yet you keep pushing forward. You keep trying to create a divide instead of a solution. Talks in circles without saying anything. The ultimate politician in many ways. -
