Orrville football 2015

rrfanCoaches and players came to play on Friday. They easily could have packed it in the way the game started...they did not and they got into the game. A couple of mixed extra points away from being tied late in the third. Ashland was by far the better team talent wise...but we pushed them until the end of the Third quarter. The fourth got away from us but the kids put it out there Friday.
It takes that kind of effort in the offseason to change the outcomes! -

This is probably my sentiment as well. There are those rare occasions where an athlete is so good in one sport that they don't want to risk getting injured in, or having the distractions associated with, another. Guys who aren't future prospects, but who are prospects now. That means they've gotten old enough to garner the attention at the next level. Future D1 college athletes or the rare cases like LeBron James (before the eligibility rule, I suppose).sanitizer;1756067 wrote:Kids that participate in more than one sport are simply better athletes IMO. Now that is not to say that specializing at an older age does not have its place. I have known a few guys and still do that are in the "scouting" world. An all state athlete in one sport is looked at with high regards, a kid who is all state or competes at a high level in more than one is looked at even more. And I also believe there are individual cases where specializing may make sense but I am with Old Rider, I see too many parents of 7 year olds who think that kid is going to the NFL!!! S A D!!!!
However, I'm sure we've all seen the image by now:
To some degree, regardless of the sport you play, the level of your pure athleticism provides an additional advantage if you can be coached and if you train on the same level as everyone else. It only makes sense for the next-level recruiters to look for the pure athletes with a solid ability to learn and the appropriate work ethic. Pretty much everything else necessary can be taught, or at least honed. -

I think everyone will agree that football scouts prefer multi sport athletes when they are recruiting. Other sports are much different. I'm sure Thad Matta, John Calipari, Rick Pitino, etc. would have a much different looking chart than Urban Meyer does. Same can probably be said for the baseball, softball, and women's basketball coaches at those schools.O-Trap;1756543 wrote:This is probably my sentiment as well. I'd be interested in seeing those charts. While they would surely be SOMEWHAT different (baseball and basketball offer more year-round options to stay within the sport, while football does not), I'd be interested in seeing the split. Athletes that demonstrate the ability to transition well from sport to sport seem like they would lend themselves to being more prepared to versatility on the court/diamond. There is, after all, a drawback to specialization: the inability to fill a team's need should that need arise.187xovr;1756566 wrote:I think everyone will agree that football scouts prefer multi sport athletes when they are recruiting. RedRider1Frosh over Madison 62-14.
I think that makes them 5-2 on the year.
Real excited for this class. They'll add depth if nothing else. Good football IQ in this group.
If we're losing 7 seniors and adding 15-18 rising sophomores, that will do wonders for our numbers. You go from mid 20's to mid 30's...and that's a lot for us right now. -
rrfanCaught just a little of the Freshman game last night. I liked what I saw! Very excited to see these kids put in the time and get stronger. They have a lot of upside.

Red Rider NationGreat effort last nite? Clue me in

unc4lifeI will clue you in. His name is Tyrell Ajin and he is the best player in the OCC.

Hope we made it through last night with no major injuries. Clear Fork is bad & very beatable. -

unc4lifeClearforks Qb was hurt in the second half last night. Not sure how bad but without him they will have a very hard time winning anymore games.

RedRider1Heard we finished the Madison game with 16 able bodies....
Were already down a few due to injury & lost a few more during the game. -
rrfanI would like to see the team come together and beat Clear Fork.
RRN you should be ashamed of yourself. Get out of our thread with your ignorant takes! -

CCRollyI urge everyone on this thread to block RRN like I have. We all have enough idiocy in our lives on a daily basis already.

FlashMay have to bring a couple up. I don't think we've brought any freshmen up but we do want to field a team. Not sure if the freshmen are close to being done and if they have used their quarters.
-
Red Rider RazzleThe freshmen have one more game this Thursday at home against Clear Fork. It should be a good game. The freshmen have been allowed to dress for every varsity game so far, just to add numbers to the sidelines. They were told they were not going to be played. That will change this week. My son, who is a freshman, was told this past weekend that he would be dressing and playing varsity the rest of the season. I'm not sure if all the freshmen will be dressing, but at least some will be playing.

This is good. They've had a nice season...bring em up and let them experience what should be a competitive game Friday and a Wooster week.Red Rider Razzle;1758035 wrote:The freshmen have one more game this Thursday at home against Clear Fork. It's also about the only option we have too. -

Congratulations to your son...They had a great season as a freshman class and hope they can build on that and pay the price in the summer in the weight room.Red Rider Razzle;1758035 wrote:The freshmen have one more game this Thursday at home against Clear Fork. If you bring them up for Wooster week none of them will want to play next year!RedRider1;1758047 wrote:This is good. They've had a nice season...bring em up and let them experience what should be a competitive game Friday and a Wooster week.

16 kids really? Terrible!! Injuries or not that is the direction of your program. -

Every other comment from you is about kids working harder in the weight room. Guess what genius? That isnt happening!rrfan;1758107 wrote:Congratulations to your son...They had a great season as a freshman class and hope they can build on that and pay the price in the summer in the weight room.
