Wayne County Athletic League Football 2015

Wow. The next few weeks will be very telling. Bears have Norwayne, Hillsdale and Chippewa back to back to back. Norwayne Manchester score is very deceiving with the poor weather. Triway is not a very good football team so the Bears will be tested the next three weeks.
Smithville Hillsdale should be a rumble. I think smithville wins this one.

That is true. I feel bad for his other schools. Especially after the hissy fit he threw after the Waynedale levy failed.

He's a snake oil guy. Not a fan.

How is the Norwayne score deceiving? With a big bruiser RB, this weather should play into their hand. I think Triway has a solid team. Too many dropped passes. Officials tried to help. I agree Smithville beats Hillsdale, BUT, in the Williams era, just as you count out Hillsdale, they show up and win!

Chippewa is the team to beat!~ Smithies and Falcons and Cats right there! Bears are slow, undersized, unathletic ....

I think the winner between Smithville and Hillsdale may be the favs. Last year the Chipps were supposed to be unstoppable with that O. But guess who shut them down in their own backyard. Hillsdale never runs the score up on teams, but also seems to have 'let down" games too. Ala Dalton last year. I think the Bears are right in the mix too. This could very well be another multi WCAL title this year.
  • Hogger53
And... The Bears are better than Norwayne! Manchester should have been blown out by the Cats. Hillsdale easily handled Manchester, I expected the same from Norwayne

    Agree, NEXT!

Everybody will have at least one loss in league...4 teams in the post season...with an outside chance at 5! That would be very cool for the WCAL!
  • oldsmithie
The league is really going to be tight this year! The Hillsdale vs Smithville game should be a good one! Hillsdale always gives Smithville fits! too close to call. Smithville was first in Region 19 last week and should stay there with the win over Fairless.
  • O-Trap
Smithville, Northwestern, Rittman, and Dalton all made the playoffs in 2005. Have four WCAL teams made it in one season since then?

LOL I remember Norwayne acting like you when they won the STATE TITLE and they got punched in the balls in week 10! Be careful grasshopper!

    Agreed! Except Chippewa...15-0.

Barnburner. My heart says Smithville, but Williams just finds a way to win!

Im too lazy to look it up, but there may have been one time since.

Your right old wise one, I will not comment anymore. See you in week 6, I'm hoping are starters get to play in the 2nd half they really need to get kicked in the balls at least once before week 11. Looking forward to the big crowd you will bring to D-town, should be a great game. Also looking forward to your super fan the fence patrol, hes a hoot. Good Luck Man! see ya!

Smithville over hillsdale...this time. The falcons in the last few years somehow find a way to beat the smithies.

Smithville/Hillsdale should be a very exciting game this weekend. Smithville will need to clean up the penalties (although, I admit, many were unwarranted last week), but you can't afford to give a good team free yards. This game will come down to toughness, execution, and defense.

Post all you want! I really don't have a "Bear" in the fight. My son is in college, my daughter plays Futbol and my youngest is 12. I like the banter. Its great to see the WCAL so competitive this year. I do support the Bears. I did stand on the fence, and I DON'T care. :)

Just checked the standings for the computer rankings (playoffs) I know it is early in the season but here they are for WCAL teams
    Div. 5 Region 16
    1. Waynedale
    4. Chippewa
    8.Northwestern
    14. Norwayne
    Div.6 Region 19
    1.Smithville
    5.Hillsdale
    6.Rittman
    16.Dalton
  • O-Trap
Yep. If playoffs started today, six of the eight WCAL teams would be in.

Obviously, I don't think it'll play out that way once they all start beating up on each other, but I could still see four. There are five teams still undefeated, and only one (Dalton) has two losses.
  • oldsmithie
I agree O-Trap, I can see 4 making it in if everything goes well. This coming week should shake things up!

The league games this week, Who wins?????
    Smithville at Hillsdale
    Chippewa at Rittman
    Waynedale at Norwayne
    Dalton at Northwestern

    Dalton at Northwestern
Northwestern takes Dalton. They're just having a tough time over there in Bulldog country.

Waynedale takes Norwayne. The Bears made me a believer after the work they did on the Titans.

Chippewa takes Rittman. It seems like it's Chippewa's league to lose this year.

That fourth game is tough. Same record thus far. Not a hugely different strength of schedule so far. Two excellent coaches. Certainly the game of the week. I'll say Hillsdale leads most of the game, but Smithville keeps it close and edges out the Falcons on a controvercial play toward the end that results in a score.

Waynedale has a nice team this year...But I'm a little confused by all the love they are getting from both the associated press and jjhuddle polls. Both have them ranked 2nd in all of D5 behind Coldwater. I see a good team, but if they are really the second best team in the state in D5, football must really be going downhill in Ohio.

The AP rankings don't mean much and the JJ poll means even less. The AP also has Smithville ranked 2 in the State in Div. 6. I am a long time Smithie supporter but chuckled when I saw the rankings. I think the league as a whole is up this year but don't think it is up so much to warrant the high rankings.

Good points here on the rankings. In high school there seems to be two qualifications for high rankings - a good record and a name that people remember making the playoffs at some semi recent time. Nobody outside of a schools immediate area really has any idea. ( for that matter, we hardly know about teams in the area at this point in the season).

Really awesome to see Wayne County schools so strong this year! Really a neat time!

Orrville was ranked in the AP poll a few years ago after a 4-0 start....we finished 4-6.

AP poll is based on name recognition which comes from past success. Voters are typically uninformed about teams outside their area which is why Mentor got a D-1 first place vote a week after losing by 40 to Cincy St. X.
