We have gained VERY LITTLE yards on the flare passes or whatever the heck they are called....honestly I wish they weren't even in our playbook (Yes, I am being critical of the play calling here). BEAST...please back me on this...most of our passing yards have been from passes DOWN FIELD. When you say let 32 create...you do understand that most of his yards (rushing & receiving) aren't from him "creating" yards. When we have thrown the ball to him in "space" he doesn't make a lot of people miss and trust me, he has had those opportunities (like I said...we need to get rid of it in our playbook). However, he does have the "raw" speed to get by people which makes him a very lethal weapon. 28 is much more "shifty" and can make people miss at a better success rate.

Here's what I think would be best for us...4 at qb with 28 & 32 in backfield and use a lot of misdirection which would benefit ALL 3 of them and we could utilize their strengths. Can you at least agree with that?
So, basically, you'd like to see them run the wing-T.

    I approve this motion. ;)

I agree completely. Scrap the spread! Your wasting time, taking unnecessary risks, and not utilizing all of your weapons. I will tell you the honest truth. If Riebe didn't go down that night, it would have been a massacre. They were sitting on every bubble, and slip screen, and were getting pressure on the QB. The injury forced you to go out of character, and it was successful for the most part. Maybe it took a backwards way to get here, but that was my point all along. You have some talent, maybe not loaded, but there is some there. The question is are you maximizing it? Not with the spread your not. What you suggested makes much more sense!
Smithville's resurgence is centered on the Wing T, Chippewa took the league by storm with the Double Wing (a little spread nuisances here and there), Hillsdale is consistent with midline. Triway is successful with the spread because of the number if receivers they have, and a QB who is extremely quick at getting the ball out. Personal opinion, but the spread is a joke at MOST small schools because of the lack of athletes that is needed to run it properly.

I will agree that the spread is a joke at MOST schools. It is a fad, that defenses have come around to defending. Unless you out-athlete teams with your skill players, you are teaching players to be soft with the zone blocking schemes. It still upsets me that in the most important play of Ohio State's season last year against Michigan State on 4th and short, they run the stinking option out of the spread and come up short. Physical football, pound it in for a first down and march on. Nope.

Smithville is running the old school version of the Wing-T, Chippewa is running the the Wing-T out of the pistol and Hilldale is midline. They play physical football, run the ball and play defense and they are having success. It's fun to watch. Too many people get caught up in the fancy 5-wide bubble screens, chuck the ball 50 times a game, that while they may have success against teams that they have superior talent then, a physical team is going to punch them in the mouth and they won't have an answer for it. There is a reason that these offenses have stood the test of time.

Brace yourself...I agree with most of your post here. Even with a different qb that night your lead stayed the same or increased, so it really wouldn't have mattered who was at that position. However, I would have "hoped" that we would have eventually made adjustments and stopped the bubbles/slip screens. Hope is a good thing, right? I will still say this...our defense continues to be my concern. We got down 14-0 in that game because our secondary didn't make plays when they had the chance (and Chippewa did). When you are struggling on offense and trying to make adjustments, shouldn't you be able to rely on your defense to keep you in the game? We could have the best offense but if we can't stop teams then it doesn't matter. I think we are slowly getting better but still needs some work.

You are right about the spread being a "joke". Remember when they said it would be the future of the NFL and Robert Griffin would be the pioneer? I really believe, no matter what sport it is, it always boils down to who has the best fundamentals and who can get "stops" when it matters the most. Sooner or later...deficiencies in both of those areas will catch up to you and you won't be successful.

Hey, after all the Waynedale talk, that was the most exciting post I'd seen on here.

WCAL. Don't forget the strain the spread puts on a defense. Typically, your time of position is severely decreased, and you force your defense on the field twice as much. Take that, plus the fact of the number of kids going both ways, and you have a worn out defense on the field.

GOOD LUCK to the Chipps tonight in what I feel is going to be a very tough, physical lower scoring game. Control the line of scrimmage and we should be fine. Hoping both teams come out this healthy, as both have some big games left to play.

Will be interesting to see how Smithville's ball control offense will do in limiting possessions for the Chipps. This maybe the best defense to slowing down the Chipp offense. Chippewa needs to get early lead, and force Smithville to throw more than they like.

Agree, make them play caught up! make them make some plays through the air. Put the game in our secondary hands and I think it's lights out for them.

Won't be able to be at the game, but I'm hoping the best for Smithville. I'd love to see them keep it within a couple scores against this Chippewa team. Smithville has gotten substantially better over last year, but they're still not proven against Grade-A opponents yet, and I don't know that this year is the year for that. Still, I'm hoping they play well and keep it exciting.

    O Trap,
this game has me concerned as a Chipp fan. I agree Smithville has come a long way, and I'm hoping this isn't their year! I think they have to be considered a favorite next year.

I hope next year is their year. They have some good raw tools to work with, but with the Chipps playing the pass so well and with their apparent ability to score with such frequency, they've clearly looked like the superior team in most relevant metrics around the league (most of all, points scored and points allowed, of course).

I was in school the last time they won the WCAL title, and from the looks of it, this team is better than that one was.

Is there anyone going to the Chipps game that can give updates on here?

So you're saying it was a close 20 point loss?
