Hate to see injuries, but kind of glad he did! Zwick was the better QB regardless!

My senior year of 1988, the varsity football team had 30 players, 12 of them were seniors. No freshmen. That team beat Wadsworth and Wooster, destroyed Copley, and shutout every team in the AOL, and made the playoffs. This year it looks like the 7th and 8th grade teams will each have 20+ players. Figuring that those teams will lose just a few players by the time they hit high school, since pee wee football weeded out the ones that would probably have given up football after 7th and/or 8th grade, the high school numbers for Orrville football are very similar to what they were 25 years ago. What needs to happen is to get out of the OCC and into a league with teams who have similar numbers and Orrville will be fine.
Careful....you're making too much sense. It's not the OCC, it's the kids (soft) and the coaches (don't know how to coach), right? :RpS_razz:

I wish more schools would update recruiting websites. Would help in doing outside analysis lol, even though my opinion on teams doesn't really matter. It would still be interesting to look at rosters, returners, etc.

Okay so lets get out of the OCC game again...you have to have somewhere to go. I will wait to hear an actual option. Ready go......

Independent. That's ALL Orrville would have at this point.

According to the headlines for August 12, the Toledo Rogers head coach (our week 1 opponent) has resigned. Guy just started in June.

Sucks for them, good for Orrville possibly.

Remember Curtis Enis? He just resigned this week from the Bradford Railroaders. He had been there a few years and done good work and I think thye have an asst in place that may be able to keep it going but for a new coach to start in June and leave now???

Unless there were major family/health issues, this guy is a coward for doing this to the school and the kids. What a horrible example. I hope he's never put in position to be an "example" to kids again.

    Confirmed:

Just in -- HSFB: Chris Etts has stepped down as Rogers Head Coach. Steve Robb has been promoted from Offensive Coordinator to Head Coach

Goes to show that things could always be worse.

Bingo...and with a part time AD I don't see that happening...

Talk on another site is that Clear Fork and Lexington both have very low numbers this year. Clear Fork only has 19 kids out grade 10-12, including only 5 seniors. Lexington has had problem for years getting kids out for Football, a few losing seasons in a row can only make that worse.

Wow odd for Clear Fork. They have been very solid for years with a lot of kids feeding into the system...

CF is another small school. Small class + no athletes = low numbers.

We should probably all just not keep score and give all a blue ribbon so we don't hurt anybody's feelings. Life is tough and football helps to teach that. Guess what in the real world life is not fair and you need to find a way to survive. If more people understood that we would not have all the entitlement programs from the gov't.

Independent really does seem to be the only feasible consideration? But with a part time AD and some of the travel costs that would be involved with some of the "journeys" the school would have to take...... I just don't know. We were independent for YEARS, my entire HS career we were a rouge agent! LOL! Even if we decided today to become independent how long would that take to actually take place?

Independent would be a tough way to go scheduling-wise. Our conference used to have an open week each week of the season and finding just one NC game past week 3 was extremely tough.

The crazy thing about Clear Fork is I think they have the best returning Qb in the league, and have a couple really nice athletes, and really if they wouldn't have crapped down their leg vs Ashland in the second half would have made the playoffs last year. I think they should be in the top half of the league, but with few numbers your an injury away from trouble.

Kids don't want to pay the price. Would rather be fat and lazy!

The only sport that I would like to see Orrville go independent in is football. We are competitive in most other sports boys and girls. However, I doubt the OCC would hang on to us if we wanted out in football only.

If we were able to go back down the independent road, there are currently 4 teams on our schedule that we continued to play even in those independent days. Wooster, Triway, West Holmes, and Mansfield Madison (all 4 of those teams were in their own leagues at the time) so lets just say that those 4 would continue to play us. Throw in Northwest (I think they enjoy the renewed rivalry from the AOL) and also throw in a week one opponent similar to last year and this year....and there is 6 teams scheduled. Now the work begins. Who do you play in those remainder 4 games? This is where it would become a scheduling nightmare!

    County school(s)?
    PAC schools (s)?
    Get CCC back?

You are assuming that you have an AD that will go through that....I don't believe you do.

Would be easy to schedule weeks 1-3 before most teams start conf. play. After that conference obligations would prevent a lot of teams from playing us.

Those weeks would probably be us playing big independent schools & parochial schools. That worked in the 80's & 90's when we could hang with anyone...but times have changed.

Indy isn't an option for all sports. Too many schedules to fill. Basketball alone would be 44 games between boys & girls varsity. Volleyball & baseball would be another 40+.

    Possible but far from ideal.

Those 4 teams I mentioned that we play now and also played as an independent, were all playing in leagues and found a way to schedule us. We used to play Triway, West Holmes, and Madison in the middle of the season. Wooster is a lock at week 10. I think it can be done, but the issue is who do we play outside of the 4-5-6 teams I mentioned earlier.

Not much going on here...anybody been to practice? If so how do we look? Could we surprise some people?

I have taken in a couple minutes of practice from time to time and its so hard to tell until we line up against an actual opponent. I like what I have seen so far in terms of the style of offense we are running. Be happy with five wins, but that is more than what I would lay my money on!

We are gonna take our lumps!!
