Division VII playoffs

I think nobody blames them for recruiting because these small schools don't have different demographics. When you have a school like Ursuline and Mooney that are very diverse and have overly huge kids, people roll their eyes

Bertke had zero yards passing, and zero yards rushing against Coldwater this year.

He's right, but just to clarify, Bertke was injured and didn't play against Coldwater.

Kind of makes the 47-14 win over Coldwater seem unreal.

    Correct.

I will say this though and before you laugh I want you to hear me out.

I think Coldwater would have been better off in that game if Bertke DID play.

Why? Going into a game with Marion you of course know you need to stop the run. With Bertke, they do have an increased passing threat. When Bertke was not slated to play one has to believe CW's defensive scheme shifted a bit more towards stopping the run. That QB hadnt done that before, nor did he do it afterwards. He threw 3 perfect long TD passes, right on the money. One where the WR tipped it up to himself. I know two of them, maybe even all three, came off of very STRONG play action off the run. Was was almost like the old option run and step back by the QB. The CW secondary bit hard on those run fakes and got burnt deep and to the credit of the QB he put them on the money. If Bertke is in the game does CW overplay the run as much as they did? Good chance not.

Now, Bertke playing may have also lit up CW's defense for 47, but not as good of a chance of the bombs as CW was overplaying the run with him out.

I am a proponant that great teams make opponants look bad and force them into mistakes, and that is what MSML did. Coldwater also made a few uncharacteristic mistakes as well as it looked like at times he was trying to make too much of a play.

If CW and ML play 10 times, I believe ML wins the series and that makes it even more impressive that ML beat D5 CW, D5 semi finalist West Jefferson!

Then again, Delphos has a population of roughly 7,000, where as Youngstown has roughly 80,000.

and also they have a public school that has half decent football teams. St. John's players go all the way through their parochial system, they are not recruited. Now a few miles away at Lima Central Catholic that is a different story.
