Okay, I guess you won this argument. I cannot honestly keep this up as I respect you way too much. I know you, you know me and I'll just leave it at that.Devilone;1284909 wrote:The player with a gun didn't happen! I should know because I was one of the Captains on that state runner up team! As stated earlier the player pushing a coach didn't happen under Rozum it happened the year Mickey Soroka was the head coach! I'll ask you again, did you play for Rozum? If you didn't it's time to stop talking about what did or didn't happen under Rozum's watch. If you didn't play there perhaps you'd be so kind to tell us were it is you did play. Waiting.........? -

reddevil90There is not a single Person on here that don't know who the thug was. And he was a waste. Also there was a incident on the 94 team against Wilson where a player gave a play to Wilson And that person that told me all about the whole squad was and still is a good friend that played on the team that year. I know what happen.. If the old timers want to know what happen pm me,. And again i cant imagine anyone putting Rozum Minnie or Soroka as that staff. Actually hell know it didn't happen.

lol when i wrote that i was using my BlackBerry and late. when i get some sleep ill edit so it can be understood. but basically a player allowed a Wilson player to score on purpose and the other was meant to say i cant imagine any player putting any of the three coaches to a wall.scoreboard;1285074 wrote:What does this mean? -
scoreboardWell the player/coach thing definitely happened. That's fact. I can't speak on anything else because it could be all rumor. I have heard the gun story several times in the past. It apparently happened in 017, but like I said, I wasn't there so idk.
Also, I remember an altercation with a player around the mid-90's with Tamron Smith when he was an assistant that happened at halftime. I also remember Smith getting either shot or stabbed not long after. -
BigDean1All of your posts are interesting. But keep in mind that the person rumored to be possibly coming back should the current staff leave has not coached football for 13 years. His offensive line coach has since passed away. His defensive coordinator has health issues of his own. I can't speak for the defensive coordinator. But I am not sure he would be up to the task putting in all of the hours coaching demands considering the health problems he has. No, I will not say what they are. I am sure there are some qualified individuals to fill those positions. But I wouldn't etch anything into stone. There have been rumors before about this guy coming back. And he has been interested before, only to back away. And I don't need to tell any of you how different things have become. If indeed this should somehow come to fruition, it's going to be interesting to see how the kids respond to a head coach and his staff who were very demanding of the players in the past.

I would say just one of the players on the 1994 team had D-1 potential. But that's an assumption which was made purely on his athletic ability. The head coach of the '94 team was the late Mickey Soroka. Soroka did not want this player on the team because he would not come to offseason workouts or practices. I knew Mickey. And he told me that. During summer sessions, many of which I attended, this player came to the practices when he wanted to, or he sent a family member to tell Soroka that he was going to Ursuline if he was not going to be part of the Campbell team. Soroka reluctantly allowed the seniors on the team to take a vote on whether or not to allow the player to be on the roster. When this player was finally convinced that he should come to practice or he would be off the team and could go to Ursuline if he wanted to, Soroka tried to insert him onto the defensive line, which this player refused to play on. Instead, he got his way and played linebacker. It was obvious that this kid had all of the tools........except for one very important one. He had size, speed, and was a physical player. But he was not coachable. He would run himself out plays from his linebacker spot, line up wrong, played dirty, threatened his own quarterback in the huddle when he was playing fullback, swore at officials, caused all sorts of problems, culminating in a near brawl in the lockerroom prior to the team leaving for the game at Orrville because he refused to get onto the team bus, which basically ended any chances of him going to college. Several people, including myself tried to talk to this player before and during the season. We could never get through to him.scoreboard;1284898 wrote:The player/coach thing is true. It happened the year AFTER Rozum stepped down, 1994. I'm sure you all know exactly the D1 potential that was on that squad. -
ForeveradevilI had the privilege to play for coach rozum and good ol coach soroka. But with good came bad. I also got McCann. As much as I'd like to see big Ed back on the sideline. I really don't think he's a good fit. We need a coach rozum clone. We need that guy that's gonna hang around for more than 3 years. It's bs these guys come in here and are gone before it gets started. We may have won games the last 5 or so seasons but what's it gonna be like if a new regime comes in. It was easy for sikora comes he was from the bayek tree. An easy transition. But if Joe smo comes in then we got another protapopa situation. We need stability. The bad seeds will always be around no matter who the coach is. We just gotta rid them of our family or have a coach that can handle it the right way. Like 100 yard bear crawls or gassers till u puke. There's no reason why we cant have 8-10 victories a year in that weak conference.

scoreboardWhy are we even talking about a REPLACEMENT for a staff that is still here?!
If this town runs this staff outta town I'm gone right with them. I'm sick and tired of the people that have all the "say-so". -
omemorialhighscoreboard, sikora is the one telling people hes gone and hes tired of the kids. believe it or not thats the case. sometimes its hard to see when you respect a guy. but lets be honest can you blame him? prob not. it takes a special individual to deal with these kids, to understand them. and a white guy from struthers/hubbard probably wasnt completely prepared for what campbell really is. campbell is alot different than what people think. so if he doesnt want people speculating he needs to tell people on his staff to keep his secrets quiet and ill leave it at that. also talking about the campbell thugs then and now. kids will be kids its just the way it is. maybe most campbellites wont admit it, but they like their juvenile delinquients....but they dont like their thugs being little fairies running trying to be rappers, they like tough as nails, mean mothers that kick butt and take names. theyll look past some stuff if theyve got their opponent shaking in their boots.
-
reddevil90Don't think there is not a few old players from Rozums arms that will not follow him into battle if given a chance. Those players want nothing but to bring this team back to its standards. If it does happen you better believe he will have his hands full. But we know that rozum wont be pushed over and nether will those though as nails off springs. I didn't know about the the other coaches health problems. But i know we have ex players that can change this attitude. Bet there will be less players by the time doubles come around and even less when the first scrimmage.
Also Scoreboard you are right about that incident. But there was a problem before the Steubenville game also. -

BigDean there were actually 3 guys with D1 talent on that team. Juan Wolf, Cameron Smith and Brandon Hamilton. Wolf and Smith were physical specimens and downright scary in a uniform. Hamilton from what I understand had a workout with the Buckeyes at Wr. And against there top Db's torched them. Cooper supposedly offered him but it didn't pan out.BigDean1;1285533 wrote:I would say just one of the players on the 1994 team had D-1 potential. scoreboard, I believe you are incorrect. Cameron Smith was on the 1994 team. He played tight end and defensive end. He wore # 40.scoreboard;1286163 wrote:Cameron Smith graduated in 94. He was a senior during the 93 season and wouldnt have been on that team. -

Devilone, everyone is entitled to his opinion on which players had the potential to play at the D-1 level. I completely agree. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I know that team because I helped out with that team through double sessions. I saw were that was headed before the first game and came around less and less. I say those three because there are a couple behind the scenes stories that not a lot of people know about. I do respect your opinion, always have just so you know.BigDean1;1286169 wrote:Devilone, everyone is entitled to his opinion on which players had the potential to play at the D-1 level. Red & BlackWow! I can't believe I'm hearing all of this crap! I'm sick of all this whining! This is not the 90's. Get over it. Back to back championships and working on a third and that's not good enough for you. Why are you still talking about last years discipline problems? In case you haven't noticed, Coach Sikora has weeded out most of his bad apples. If you've counted you"ll see we're down from 45 to 31 players. One you mentioned has been suspended the last two games. I speak to the coaches every day and have heard nothing about them leaving. And regarding Coach Rozum, he's at every home game because he's the asst. principal. It's his job to be there. I can't speak to his desire to coach again, except to say that I've never heard him say anything about it. It still amazes me how many of you say you want old-school Campbell kids on that field on Friday nights yet you're posting from Boardman, Warren, Struthers, Poland, Wintersville, etc. It's laughable, it really is. How can we put old-school Red Devils on the field when their parents have turned them into new-school Spartans, Wildcats, Eagles, Rockets or Bulldogs? Feel free to move back home help us fix what you think is broken.

From 45 players in the summer down to 31 by week 8. This tells me that there were kids on the roster during the summer that did not have the pride, dedication, or the heart to play for Campbell Memorial. So forget them. They did not want to be here anyway. Arguably the best athlete on the team is ineligible because of grades. Coach Sikora surely could have used him at tailback. There are Rozum rumors just about every year. Rozum is nearly 60 years old and has not coached Campbell football for 13 years. If indeed he has to attend games because his job requires him to do so, I wonder what he could be thinking as he watches many of these kids playing football with no fire, no pride, no aggressiveness week after week. It's pitiful for me to watch these kids WALK casually onto the field from the sidelines instead of hustling to the huddle and hustling up to the line of scrimmage. It's pathetic to see them WALKING onto the field from the lockerroom prior to the beginning of the third quarter while their opponents run onto the field. It's amazing that none of the seniors have stepped up to be leaders. For me, that is a huge problem. A team is only as good as its seniors. That being said, I have to question why Rozum would want to come back. If by some chance he ever does, I wonder how he would handle situations like those which have taken place over the past two years. In my opinion the roster would be cut significantly even before summer sessions began because some of the kids could not get through his conditioning program over the winter. Would he be able to instill the pride, fire, the attitude that the Campbell teams were known for during the 80's and 90's nearly 13 years after he last coached? I have a hunch that we have seen the last of the days when Campbell would intimidate an opponent just by lining up on the field.Red & Black;1288385 wrote:Wow! I have had disagreements with friends and fellow fans about this point in the past. But this is what I truly believe has happened to the city of Campbell: Campbell has changed significantly since the 80's and the 90's. Heck, it has changed in just the past five years. People who were born and raised in Campbell are moving their families to the suburbs because Campbell has never come back from the devastating effects of the steel mills being shut down. Look around the city streets. The population of the city continues to decline as does the school enrollment. Property values are in the gutter. Furthermore, look at the attendance at home games. Where is the community support? We've got a stadium that seats over 7,000. And the attendance at home football games is less than the attendance at soccer games played by other schools. Campbell is a dying city. Some of the population is composed of families who have moved into Campbell from Youngstown. Hence, these are not Campbell people. Many of them do not understand or dare I say even are aware of the football tradition that Campbell has. I can't see that changing in any way, shape, or form no matter who the coach and the staff are. For me, it's a sad thing to watch. -

You right on some accounts. As far as this staff is concerned they along with Coach Bayuk have restablished this program and we all would love to see that continue. Any comments on here about Rozum coming back didn't come from me. I only straightened out some rumors about what happened in the past. As far as not living in Campbell anymore I don't. I work out of town 10 months out of the year and my wife's family is from Warren so it makes sense to be there. But guess what, every weekend that I am home me and my kids are watching the Red Devils not the Tigers or Raiders. I wish I could be there for every game but when I'm not I get constant updates to know how we're doing. When I played I left my blood, sweat and tears on that field for Campbell. So when I want to make a comment on Campbell football I don't care if I'm living on the Moon I'll make it because I earned the right too. Remember the saying. "NO MATTER WERE YOU GO OR WHO YOU'RE WITH, ONCE A DEVIL ALWAYS A DEVIL!!!!!!Red & Black;1288385 wrote:Wow! I can't believe I'm hearing all of this crap! I'm sick of all this whining! omemorialhighbottomline. if you watched rozums teams you are used to a better brand of football, and this isnt it. you could pump up aac championships which are great but campbell football is not based on the hubbard mentality of one and done. if you are happy with struggling to beat champion then so be it. i for one am not. and thats why rozum will be back. trust me.

omemorialhigh, I agree with you. It's just not the same. It has never been. Our teams were physical under Rozum. All anyone has to do is to look at the scores over the past few years vs. the quality programs. We get our asses beat. But everyone should remember that this was a program which was in the gutter when Bayuk took over, followed by Coach Sikora. Those two have at least gotten Campbell some respect back over the past few years. But I want more than just respect. I want Campbell to dominate a league again and to get deep into the playoffs. Maybe Rozum is the answer, although he has been out of football for more than a decade. From my perspective, I say take that chance.omemorialhigh;1290636 wrote:bottomline. if you watched rozums teams you are used to a better brand of football, and this isnt it. you could pump up aac championships which are great but campbell football is not based on the hubbard mentality of one and done. if you are happy with struggling to beat champion then so be it. i for one am not. and thats why rozum will be back. trust me.
