WEEK 6: YOUNGSTOWN LIBERTY ( 4-1 ) AT CAMPBELL MEMORIAL ( 3-2 )

scoreboard if you think no one knows that situation then you are fooling yourself. ok to the game. enoughs enough. im tired of this. sikora has already let it known hes leaving after the year and plans on taking his fantastic staff with him. i wouldnt post it but i find it completely disrespectful that he allowed that to leak in the middle of a season. not only has his team quit on the season but the staff has obviously quit also. last night was embarressing. time to move on. it was good while it lasted but it is obvious that the discipline issues have not disappeared. sikora lost this team when he let j hughes and dom patton run wild at the beginning of last year. and when those kids beat up a learning disabled student on his way home from school and no discipline was passed out. and when rushton and smith got suspended before struthers game and sikora got robey to overturn suspensions. and and and. enoughs enough. time to move on. we all know who we want. the only man for the job.
  • omemorialhigh
these are not the only problems. there are obvious problems on defense that have yet to be resolved. the people of this town want an aggressive, nail eating bunch. they deserve it. time to get the boys back in town.

I understand that the situation is known to an extent, I just feel like this isn't the place to discuss it. That's all.

I agree. Those close to the football program know of the problems. This forum is no place to beat it to death. If changes are coming, so be it. If indeed the person being rumored is interested in coming back, it will be interesting to see how he handles certain situations should he end up with the job. I have warned many people that this is a completely different era than 13 years ago when the person we are all hearing about last coached. And the kids of this era are what our current coaches have been dealing with for the past few years. If I were a betting man, I would not etch anything into stone as to who may or may not be coming back should the current staff leave the program. The landscape is far different than it was back in 1999. Coaching these days at Campbell is an enormous challenge.

The 1955, 1956 & 1957 teams won three straight SVC titles. Campbell then won the SVC title again in 1959. Moot point after last night. Too many early turnovers and penalties put us in an early hole that we couldn't get out of.
1964 also, which was Campbell's last SVC title.

no more excuses for this staff.
  • omemorialhigh
it is inexcusable for this staff to leak out that they plan to leave at the end of the year. inexcusable.

Where and when exactly was this done?
  • BTrev
    Where are they going?
  • oldschoolreddev
Disappointing loss. If this staff leaves, where will they go? Jackson Milton? Hubbard? Howland? Ursuline? Mooney? JFK? There aren't many options out there so does it make sense to leave? Remember we were in great position to make history this year! LOL!

Also, let's not beat around the bush about "rumors" of Coach Rozum. If the job opens up, I am sure he would be considered. No guarantees with this administration. Would I like to see him come back? Yes.
  • Ohio
I've heard Hubbard wants Hoffman out in Hubbard that could be possible
  • reddevil90
I have seen Rozum at the games. Also heard from people when smoking a cig that he is defiantly interested. But it would be so cool to see the mad man defense once again on the side line blowing his top at anyone who misses a tackle. I for one know and as anyone here there will be no mistake if that would happen there will be a wake up call for the so called cuddies. To much of this has been good and too much of this era has been bad. But if it does come to that and the man comes back it will be a somber site without seeing soroka on the sideline. And We know he is very good at recruiting in the school. I mean have we seen enough or not enough. I didn't know the coach was leaving. So be it. I'm sad if they chose to. But for what ever reason i think its time to bring back Real Campbell football with real Campbell coaches. Once a coach has a itch they need to scratch it.

Also can he capture that era one more time with these kids? He must think he can. I'm ready for round 4. Hell all of us are ready for it. Dont kid yourself and say you wouldn't want to see it. I would love to see the man on the sideline again. Anyone that don't think he cant bring this intensity just don't remember! And bet there will be attitude adjustments. But for now we dont know what will happen and even if the administration will even consider him.

Yeah he is right i miss read a article on wkbn. Sorry but would be the second time in history.

I totally agree with omemorial on one thing. It is disrespectful that Hughes, Patton, Rushtin, and Smith, were not disciplined for their actions last year.

That's the most inexcusable thing to me. To Hell with the gossip that they're on their way out. You can't let the inmates run the asylum. Especially when they're out there getting in serious trouble. What kind of message does that send?

I can get away with doing drugs, assaulting people on the street, and just being an all around nuisance to society. I get a free pass, because I play or played HS football.

It's BS! They're only doing themselves and the kids an injustice, by allowing that kind of stuff to go on.

Regardless of how talented a player is, playing football is a privilege and an honor. Not a right!

One thing I have to giggle at is the fact that people here assume some of those things didn't happen while Coach Rozum was heading the program. Stories of players taking out guns in class while the teacher just moved his newspaper above his eyes. Coaches being pushed up against the wall by players. And considering one of the apples you bring up had a tree playing for Rozum, I can go and guess it didn't fall too far. I love the old times, it's great to have a rich tradition here but sometimes we have to quit acting like it was pure holiness then. This is Campbell, the hard nosed teams you loved were because of the a-hole attitude of most of our kids. Now a days it's even worse because all kids these days feel entitled to something. Lastly, if the staff leaves then it will be a sad day to me. They brought back life into this city and had to deal with THE worst class in Campbell history in terms of attitude (2011). A new staff will get to step in and reap the benefits of the great kids coming up. Then all the fans will say, "see they had to go!". It's a sad fact because those lower levels have some serious talent and good attitudes. If a new staff comes in, goodluck to you. I just wish fellow fans could understand that this hasn't just started happening here. Hell, our legendary basketball coach couldn't put up with these kids anymore and took off. Just watch what we wish for...

This team is soft and an embarassment. It looks like the team is running the show.
  • BTrev
Let me back up a bit...

I do think it is okay for the team to govern themselves... to an extent. As long as they hold each other accountable for their screw ups and play with pride in their community, respect for their opponents, and behave on and off the field with dignity and class.

It's tough when the majority of the team would rather pretend to be gangsters. The coaches have a tough job. Anyone would.

It's still not excusable to let players slide and get them out of trouble with a slap on the wrist.

I'm not trying to make this a racial thing at all, or start an argument. But are there currently any black coaches on Campbell's coaching staff?
  • scoreboard
Yes, one. A long time Bayuk guy.

Poor little boy you have an imagination! Name the year a player brought a gun to school! As far as a coach on Rozums staff getting pushed up against a wall, I highly doubt that. If you even thought about it you would've gotten the beat down of your life. Players and coaches would have trounced you silly! I can guarantee you didn't play for him or you would know the kind of respect that staff commanded. James Johnson was preseason All American in 1989 and got cut after the second game because he had 2 missed practices. That's the kind of program he runs. 3 misses in the off season weight room sessions and you couldn't even come out for the team. That's why the kids were hard-nosed, because they went through hell together and came out a true team of Red Devils. He doesn't play around with kids who get in trouble! You get in trouble you're gone. Simple as that!
  • Devilone
BTrev you're right it is a privilege to play ball. More people need to remind their children of this fact.

I heard the same things also. In the late 80's. I also wonder how certain players stayed eligible back then.

Tutors. Study table. Also, the head coach was in the high school and stayed on them. The conditioning program was very, very tough. There was a reason the Rozum coached teams only had 30-35 players. The kids who couldn't cut the weightroom did not make the football team. I remember the 1991 team had 26, yes 26 players on the entire roster. That team won the MVC championship. They were all hard-nosed kids. All 26. I also remember when Coach Rozum suspended 8 players prior to an important game against Struthers. HE suspended them. Not the administration.

Well the player was on the late 80's teams and the state-runner up squad. No names need mentioned on here, just what happened. And the coach story was 100% true as told to me by the coach who was put up against the wall! It was in fact out of rage because the player was turned down by college scouts that came to practice and the player wasn't there. Coach told the scouts about them always missing practice and they were cut after that event. My imagination isn't great, just telling the facts and if that is hard for you to believe then so be it. Campbell has always had these problems so stop fooling yourself.

The player/coach thing is true. It happened the year AFTER Rozum stepped down, 1994. I'm sure you all know exactly the D1 potential that was on that squad.
  • Devilone
The player with a gun didn't happen! I should know because I was one of the Captains on that state runner up team! As stated earlier the player pushing a coach didn't happen under Rozum it happened the year Mickey Soroka was the head coach! I'll ask you again, did you play for Rozum? If you didn't it's time to stop talking about what did or didn't happen under Rozum's watch. If you didn't play there perhaps you'd be so kind to tell us were it is you did play. Waiting.........?
