WEEK 6: YOUNGSTOWN LIBERTY ( 4-1 ) AT CAMPBELL MEMORIAL ( 3-2 )
-
BigDean1This is a big conference game for both schools, as both are tied for the top spot in the AAC with 2-0 league records. It's a critical game for Campbell's playoff implications as the Red Devils are now in the 9th spot in D-5 region 17 after Friday's win over LaBrae. Liberty holds down the 7th spot in D-4 region 13 after Friday's win over Jefferson Area. So this is just as important of a game for the Leopards. Liberty is much improved over the past couple of years. What are your thoughts on this game?
-
Spread All DayLiberty is solid. I think Campbell will have troubles. They match up well, no doubt about it.
Campbell wins because of Reyes. -
OhioI think the devils win but it will e very close as years past it has been huge playoff points for the devils this week
-
Struthers FanDon't give up the early big points Jefferson did and I think Campbell has a good chance to win this one. One good thing about the Devils, is they normally don't give up when they are behind on the scoreboard.
Good luck Memorial!! -
reddevil90I feel good this week. Campbell can beat Liberty with playing 4qts. Reyes is due for a big one like last years Girard game. I hope Campbell Continues to pull out those W's!
With each conference win! the devils get one step closer to History! No other Devils team can say they done what this years team has a chance to do. And that would be a huge accomplishment! All those great teams from the 50's 60;s 80;s and early 90's could not accomplish this feat! That is winning 3 straight conference championships. And that is something special! One Game at a time. Worry about this week. -
OhioThat will come down to the Lakeview game to see who takes that conference crown. The top tier is up for the taking other then beaver local and Canfield.

omemorialhighhonestly im not going to sugarcoat this. when i watch this team they are absolutely pathetic. lathargic would be a good word to describe this team. no intensity no fire. the only time i saw this team play with fire was the niles scrimmage...and it is very sad to say the only reason i think that happened was because a bunch of fans were talking trash on facebook about it before the niles scrimmage. why do fans on fb have to fire up these kids and this staff. i also believe it is a coaching mentality also. i see nothing from them in terms of fire and drive to be the best. a wins a win except when you beat labrae 14-11. that was pathetic. i still hold out hope that the same team that whooped niles is going to show up but im not holding my breath. if this staff doesnt change their laid back attitude it will a butt kicking like brookfield friday. we have alot to be excited about geez wake up. also i hope dre kelly is off the team, while his teammates were out the field i saw him dancing under the bleachers with a bunch of girls. like a fairy. dont let him put that jersey back on hes a joke.

Are these kids just different today? How many of these kids are actual Campbell kids born and raised in Campbell? Have things changed so much that we should not expect to see the hard-nosed, eat nails for breakfast type of Campbell player we once were so proud of? Or maybe Campbell needs a head coach who demands respect and strikes some fear into the hearts of the kids? Except for half a dozen or so kids I feel we have become soft.omemorialhigh;1278130 wrote:honestly im not going to sugarcoat this. when i watch this team they are absolutely pathetic. lathargic would be a good word to describe this team. no intensity no fire. the only time i saw this team play with fire was the niles scrimmage...and it is very sad to say the only reason i think that happened was because a bunch of fans were talking trash on facebook about it before the niles scrimmage. why do fans on fb have to fire up these kids and this staff. i also believe it is a coaching mentality also. i see nothing from them in terms of fire and drive to be the best. a wins a win except when you beat labrae 14-11. that was pathetic. i still hold out hope that the same team that whooped niles is going to show up but im not holding my breath. if this staff doesnt change their laid back attitude it will a butt kicking like brookfield friday. we have alot to be excited about geez wake up. also i hope dre kelly is off the team, while his teammates were out the field i saw him dancing under the bleachers with a bunch of girls. like a fairy. dont let him put that jersey back on hes a joke. -

There is very few players i have witnessed over the new era of Campbell football. Starting with the Bayuk era that have played Campbell football. And what is scary is there is a coach on the team that knows about how Campbell played in those days. He coached against them with our rival. There soft is a understatement. It is a situation that will not change until someone in the coaching ranks gives them punishment AND STICKS WITH IT!! there is absolutly no reason what so ever that last years team didn't make a good run in the playoffs.BigDean1;1278376 wrote:Are these kids just different today? I have no idea. But he has been attending games and watching from the pressbox. Whether that means anything is anybody's guess.omemorialhigh;1278625 wrote:they need a blast from the past. thats all im going to say. i hope hes still interested. -
Red & BlackAre we really complaining about the same players and coaches who won back-to-back championships and are trying for a third? And did you just call a 17yr. old kid a fairy? SERIOUSLY!! Very adult of you. First of all, that eat-nails attitude was instilled in us by our parents who grew up here and stayed here and kept us in school here. Our coaches just turned it up a notch or two. If any of you think our current coaches don't have that fire, you obviously haven't been to many practices or were to busy "coaching" up in the stands to see or hear them. Yes, we came out flat on Friday night, but many of our kids were, and still are, fighting the flu bug. I know Labrae was 0-4, but they lost every game by less than a touchdown. I'm not saying that some of these kids don't lack self-motivation, but a coach can only work with what he's given.Only a handful of our players come from families with roots in Campbell football. Why? Because so many of our former athletes have moved away or, worse yet, still live here but send their kids to school elsewhere. If you fall into one of these two categories please keep your comments to yourself. I know you don't believe it, but you are part of the problem. We, who are still proud to live here and send our kids to school here, resent the bad-mouthing of our kids, our coaches and our school. Even though we know that most of the complaining is meant to help you justify your choices to yourself so you can sleep at night....PS.. If any of you doubt Coach Sikora's desire to win or his faith in our school system, just remember that he allowed his son, a valedictorian, to transfer from Hubbard to Campbell. And he teaches at Hubbard! That should tell you something.

oldschoolreddevI think that there is too much talent on this team and people are frustrated that there isn't as much Passion as there should be. That is a combination of the players attitude and the ability if the coach's ability to get that passion out of the player. This us what happens when you are successful, the fans want more. I remember in the Rozum days of people criticizing him and his staff when they had that run in the 80's, so I would take it as a compliment. Liberty is having a fine season and this should be a good game. A ton if computer points is at stake so I expect both teams to come out fired up.
-
Red & BlackI'll agree with that,Oldschool. People have gotten spoiled. I think they forgot all the down years between Coach Rozum's teams and Coach Bayuk/Sikora's teams.

Well said. Please refer to my post above asking how many actual Campbell raised kids are on the football team. Much has changed in Campbell since the great years of the mid 1980's and early 1990's. And it is what it is. The community does not support these kids nearly as well as it did in years past. And sadly, neither does the student body for the most part. Campbell has a 7,200 seat stadium and it has not come even close to being even half filled to capacity for any home game since the stadium was renovated back in 2005. If 7,200 fans were at each home game maybe the kids would show some intensity like those teams I speak of above. I for one will always be loyal to the Red Devils, no matter what the circumstances, whether a kid is Campbell raised or isn't. The current coaching staff has done a fine job in resurrecting a program that was way, way down just a few years ago. I commend them. That being said, there are always going to be individuals who are interested in coaching for the Red Devils. There are always going to be people who know the X's and O's of football who might do things differently if they were coaching. But they aren't. Right now, we have a good staff in place which does its best each and every week to put a good product on the field. They have dealt with a lot of adversity in the last few years. And Campbell still has two consecutive AAC titles and two playoff berths (including the one under Coach Bayuk) despite that. Now let's get a win on Friday vs. Liberty.Red & Black;1280596 wrote:Are we really complaining about the same players and coaches who won back-to-back championships and are trying for a third? omemorialhighRed & Black I guess we will see how dedicated this staff is to this city and this school at the end of the school year. Its been well known Sikora turned down multiple opportunities to go elsewhere.
-
Red & BlackThe key words there being "turned down".
-
sonnyblackthe so-called "sports experts" from the trib, all 9 of them, picked liberty to win friday.

oldschoolreddevI want to respond to an earlier post. If Campbell were to win another conference title it would not be the first in Campbell history to win three in a row. The 1955, 1956 & 1957 teams won three straight SVC titles. Campbell then won the SVC title again in 1959. Moot point after last night. Too many early turnovers and penalties put us in an early hole that we couldn't get out of.
