WTOV9 Big 22 P.O.Y.

  • sonofsam
I was absolutely FLOORED when they announced Macon as the Big 22 P.O.Y. on WTOV9. The most deserving player of the award was Max Nogay from Weirton Madonna. Its a shame that WTOV9 doesn't look past Steubenville High School when it comes to awards, take nothing away from Macon... He is a great High School athlete, but Nogay not only put up impressive numbers, he shined in Madonna's toughest games, showed great leadership, gives credit to his team for his accomplishments, and he WON a state championship. Its getting old watching the Big Red awards show...

Not to mention the linebacker from U.L. had like 180 tackles.

What is the resent history of POY awards??? Anyone know?

There never going 2 change , That y i don't care about there awards

Macon is the most complete football player in the OVAC.
Petteway is the best defense player in the OVAC.
How can you argue with those picks? Your hatred for SHS is just getting ridiculous.

Anyone that complains about Collaros winning the POY or Davis is just being ignorant. The same can be for Busick winning the D-POY last year.

Its not an OVAC award, and it is based on the votes of viewers who log onto the WTOV website.

    ^^^^
If it's a viewer log in to vote for a station in Steubenville, it would only make sense that the hometown kid would get the edge. Dwight was a great QB for Big Red and I wish him the best of luck at Central Michigan.

Electrifying play of the week was voter poll as well and Big Red never won that.

I may be mistaken but I dont think Pettaway won any ovac honors this year but wins the wtov defensive player of the year. Thats why these awards mean squat. Plus you have Reno having the computer class at big red voting for the award all day.
I will agree with sonofsam. Max Nogay should have run away with that award.

Petteway was first team all state. If he didn't win any OVAC honors then they are a joke. There is not a better defensive player in the OVAC. btw Reno does not have anything to do with computer classes at Big Red.

I already stated that Macon is a great high school athlete... I do not contest Petteway getting defensive POY. The point is Fan votes were "part" of the selection, coaches and WTOV also had a say in it (supposedly) Nogay's numbers were flat out amazing and he brought home THE trophy... WTOV9 bends over every chance they get when it comes to Steubenville... Just bored with it, wish someone else would do local football coverage.

Everyone can say that its does have 2 do with wtov9 being in steubenville ,But theres only 4 teams they care about STEUBENVILLE , STEUBENVILLE CC , WHEELING PARK , AND WHEELING CENTRAL . News 9 awards are a joke bottom line.

On what merits can say there is not a better defensive player? If its numbers there is a kid from Creek that had better numbers.

Come on now, Nogay? I would have taken Bobby Spence over him!
You being a creek fan,you should know best why Macon deserves this award, even though you guys only got to see him for 2 quarters for each of the last 3 years! ;)

I would like to know what kid from creek had better numbers and were not talking inflated numbers.Petteway deserves the award and i will agree with sonofsam that macon is good but he was not poy material, max nogay was on a level all by himself when you look at everything he did for his team and how he composed himself during games.he is a first class athlete and i am sure he has bigger and better things in his future than worrying about a news9 award.Check back on both of them in about 4 years. There were a couple of kids that should have recieved the award before macon but none before nogay.

I am sure Niko Otto from Creek had at least 30 more tackles than Pettaway. Plus he played Fullback every game. But hes not from big red so I understand.
  • tank2nasty
One thing y'all seem to forget is levels of competition and actual minutes played!
    That goes a long way!
  • bigredbaseball0
Pettaway did not play all 4 quarters of every game as Niko Otto did either, don't forget about that. Also to say Nogay deserves it because he won a State Title is absurd. No disrespect but let's not even try to compare the A division of WV to division III in OH.
  • Run4DaHills
ask braylon heard if he thinks Petteway is a good defender.

Well it is nice to know that you have to play ohio division III to be chosen as poy for wtov.Even at that macon was not the best division 3 player in the ovac.We can't bring up the state title because big red lost in the finals or you would have used that to say macon deserved to win poy because he won a state title.Like i said before lets check back in a couple of years.

Are you really saying that the Otto kid from Creek is better than Petteway from Big Red? Are you serious Clark? I hope that you are just trying to get a rise out of people and that you honestly dont believe that. Even if that is your son or relative, take off the mustard and ketchup(ICHS colors) colored glasses.

No one said it was because of a state title ONLY... Lets analyze for a minute...

Macon- 1,508 yds. passing 15 TD. 735 yds. rushing 9 TD. 3rd year QB, Mr. Football in the eyes of Big Red faithful... No championships.

Nogay- 1,100 yds passing 10 TD. 1107 yds. rushing 24 TDs. Not to mention 48 tackles on defense and 4 INT. First year at QB, Undefeated, State Champion.

408 less passing yds. than Macon, but 372 yds. extra in the run catagory. 10 more TD's overall. Played both ways ALL the time, with 48 tackles and 4 picks. First year at the position... Wasn't beaten all year. And oh yea, that state championship thing... He has one. Sure WV football is a little different, heck Big Red is different than most Ohio D3 schools. Point is, the kid had the numbers... He didn't have Reno as a coach, and he didn't have the best players the valley could send to Madonna playing with him. Macon is a really good football player, but Nogay was better this season...

I would have had Macon 3rd on my list this year... Nogay at #1 Palmer from HC at #2 and then Macon at #3.

And yes, I am a Creek supporter... That fact has NOTHING to do with my feelings toward this matter. The fact that Braylon Heard could have played for Conotton Valley and posted double what he did this year and the award would have still gone to Macon... Its just the way WTOV-Big Red is.

Anyone catch the interview between Reno and Don Sloan on RTV the week after the Inkster game? Don Sloan ticked him off pretty bad... Wonder how he made up for it???

Just curious what were their yards per game. I know Macon missed a few games did Nogay?
