Ron Johnson not renewed @ Canton McKinley
-
McKAlumni07After tonight's board of education meeting the vote stood at 3-2 to NOT renew Ron Johnson as the bulldogs head coach next season. He finished at McKinley having helped the McKinley team raise GPA and he finished with a 31-16 record. He went to the playoffs in all 4 of his years at McKinley and held a 3-2 record vs Massillon having won the last 3 in week ten. This story is on cantonmckinley.com and fridaynightohio.com. Guess we shall see what's next for canton McKinley
-
FairwoodKingDid they give any reasons for firing him?
-
GoChiefsI heard it was because of some disgruntled parents. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. If it is, this is absolutely ridiculous. Let the coaches coach, that's why you hire them. The coaches decide who gets to start and who doesn't, not the parents.
-
RedRider1About every 5 years it seems, Canton and Massilon BOE's try to one-up each other to see who can non-renew a coach as part of some stupid personal agenda or power trip.
So toxic. -
skankBarbershop gang. This is 90% race related, and it stems back to RJ announcing Reid Worstell as McKinleys 2011 starter during the 2010 McKinley awards banquet.
Trust me, I'm far from a McKinley fan, but this guy got the shaft. -
ZWICK 4 PREZLOL@MCK
you dummies. -
McKAlumni07The students and team at McK have put together a petition to keep Ron Jon at McK but who knows if it will work the board members had their agenda and they stuck to it. The sad part is that two of the board members were just appointed that voted no and probably didn't know anything about the whole thing. I for one didnt 100% like the decisions that Johnson made (some of the play calls in playoff games vs GlenOak). However this wasn't the way to do things
-
ZWICK 4 PREZRon helped your program in more ways than the idiots will ever know. Mckinley will now hire a black coach just b/c he is black and the program will be in shambles. If they're smart, they'll at least find a black coach who is a good coach. If you get Garland Rivers, or Ricky Powers, or Mike Doss (lol seriously?) you guys are done.

True, there ARE good black coaches out there, Rivers & Doss aren't two of them. I have my doubts about Powers, although he is the only one of the three that would be even remotely qualified for such a job. If no good black coaches apply, don't count on any good white coaches applying. -

You won't see a good, white coach apply at McK in a long time.. if ever again.skank;1048526 wrote:True, there ARE good black coaches out there, Rivers & Doss aren't two of them. Coach Johnson is white.
Board of education members are:
Richard Milligan: WHITE-Voted to keep him.
Ryan Brahler: WHITE-Voted to keep him.
Lisa Gissendanner: BLACK-Voted non renewal.
Ida Ross-Freeman: BLACK- Voted non renewal.
Nadine Mcillwain: BLACK-Voted non renewal.
From what I've been reading on other sites, these three black women have criminal records that would make Pac Man jones blush. -
McKAlumni07also from looking at Ida Ross-Freeman's facebook I have ZERO idea how she got a job on the school board. Her facebook posts are full of miss spelled words and bad grammar. She even posted on the mayor of Mansfield's FB page
Ida Ross-FreemanMayor Don Culliver[h=6]"The Board of Education held their meeting tonight and swore in the new members and I was one of the new members. We had the dubious task to rehire or not rehire the football coach for Mckinley H. S. and all hell broke lose when we did not rehire the coach. so if you know any coaches who is looking for an opportunity with a great football program, have them contact the Canton City Board of Education Superintendent."[/h] -
skank"So if you know any coaches who is looking?"
I guess there is a video of her explaining her decision, and it REALLY makes her look bad. I haven't seen this video yet, but I can't wait. -
McKAlumni07I just went to cantonmckinley.com and tried to click the link to listen to her interview and it takes you to the canton repository website but the "404 isnt found". hmmmm
-
McKAlumni07nvm i believe i found it....

Thanks Alum, I finally watched it. A few things I took from this interview.
She says there is a disconnect in the community, no kidding? I wonder if it has anything to do with Tyla mama stirring up crap? I wonder if it has anything to do with the meetings at Lavelle Stewarts "Kool Kutz" barbershop?
Her main concern is the children? And you vote to non renew a coach who has done nothing but raise the grade point averages of the team each and every year? You vote to non renew a coach who just a few years ago helped get 22 of 23 of his Seniors into college? I think your main concern Ida, is getting your school a coach who looks different than the one you just rid yourself of.
Just from seeing & hearing her, you can tel she is a liar, by the way she, 1, rambled on the whole time. 2, kept changing the subject, and 3, several times she had to stop and think.
What the black contingent in Canton are doing is wrong, but if these three black women would at least come right out and say we think it's time for a black head coach, at least we could have a sliver of respect for them....And I DO mean a sliver.
Last thing, I was listening to Sam Bourquin on the way home today, and he had in front of him, a petition signed by the football team, to retain Ron Johnson....Tyler Foster signed the petition. -
ManO'WarThis woman is an idiot.
But the people get what they elect.
One of her reasons was that the coach improved their grades, but didn't "connect" with some of the family!!! That's just insane. The whole reason for the establishment of school system is for learning...not playing sports.
And who is this "community" she keeps referring to??? -
skankIt's really pretty simple, when she's smiling, she's refering to the black community, when she's not, she's refering to the white community.
The "community" of Canton had better get used to white/black comments, this has been brewing for several years now, and the blacks in the community brought this on themselves. -
ManO'WarIt's really a shame because I remember going up to Fawcett in the 70's when Big Red was in the All American Conference and seeing a school system that was top notch. They had a large throng of fans, a great band, and great teams.
Now when I go up to watch them play it is the opposite (other than Fawcett, which is still a top notch venue). I saw them a few years ago and there was lucky to be 1,000 people on the home side. -
skankOn Bourquins show today, he also stated that on the doors of the classrooms at Can. McK. there WERE posters that read, "KEEP RON JON", the Principal tore them all down, and told the students that she was, "not going to put up with this". According to Bourquin, she also threatened the remaining coaches on staff with their jobs.
The Principals name? Deidre K. Stokes....A black woman. -
ManO'WarThey better pray that there is not any Open Enrollment districts near by...or I could see a mass exodus.
-
skankTrue, I see GlenOak being a big winner here.
-
McKAlumni07I have heard many talk about transferring... GlenOak being the big winner there especially. I have heard rumor that Eric Glover(freshman back that played in week 10 against Massillon) was talking about transferring but heard his father(who was just elected into McK football HOF) wont allow him to.
