Here is the WHOLE quote....Just so some of you don't get drawn in by a troublemaker. -
RedRider1Back when McK was hiring a basketball coach, they went after Akron St. V's Dru Joyce and he said no.
No local head coaches are in the pool of 11 finalists for this job.
It's a known commodity the toxic environment McK is and it's such a shame. Some of the greatest talent our area has ever seen are Bulldogs. It says a lot when people wanted to fire Thom McDaniels in the midst of them winning back to back state titles. What is any coach going to do differently that will appease the fan base?
You just have to ask why? -

Actually RR1, Thom was not under the gun after that first state title, throughout his career he was, but not after 97. He actually took an administrative position after the 97 season, which I bet he regrets. -
RedRider1Did I read that there will be a team of mediators to oversee the selection committee of 15?
Seems that committee is made up of pro & anti Ron Johnson folks. I'm very interested in seeing how this groups comes to any sort of consensus.
Maybe they'll have co-coaches like in the movie "Remember the Titans." -
BRFInteresting reading. Thanks to Miyagi for pointing this thread out to me.
Hope you all enjoyed our very own Series62 with all his unbiased posts. -
skankYes brf, it is funny how the Canton board of Ed. creates the racist situation, but someone else can try and turn it to make everyone ELSE look like the racists.

97 was no different than any other time. There was a group of haters that wanted him out every year. My gosh, when his kids school bus need a police cruiser to follow it to and from school tells me that the Canton community is a toxic dump and no one in there right mind would want to step into that atmospher!skank;1091623 wrote:Actually RR1, Thom was not under the gun after that first state title, throughout his career he was, but not after 97. That is what he specializes in doing. He's very good at it, too.skank;1095048 wrote: but someone else can try and turn it to make everyone ELSE look like the racists.
BTW, BRF is a friend of Coach McDaniels from way back. I even helped him move from Orrville to Canton. -
skankDude, get real, that was an old rumor. Like Ben rode the bus as a Jr. in Hs.

Unbiased??? You're the "history" teacher, explain from your unbiased point of view why and how Canton may have become the "toxic dump" of racism it is said to be?BRF;1095022 wrote:Interesting reading. Thanks to Miyagi for pointing this thread out to me.

You say, "the Canton BoE created the racist situation".skank;1095048 wrote:Yes brf, it is funny how the Canton board of Ed. creates the racist situation, but someone else can try and turn it to make everyone ELSE look like the racists.
And I ask, did they really? If the Canton BoE fired Ron Johnson because he is white, that is very, very unfortunate for him as he seems to have had a successful career at McKinley. It was also wrong of the members of the BoE because as black men and women in America, we all should know better!
Perhaps, and I'm sure there was, times when the Canton BoE like many BoE's and other government, commercial and private entities committed racism and many deserving minorities, (including white women), couldn't get certain positions because of racism. Because of this, what I am saying is simply this, we will reap what we sow!
rr1, you're correct, karma is not the appropriate word in this case. -

Maybe a better way to put it is that they fired him because he wasn't black. It will be interesting though, if McKinley hires a black man, to see what expectations are of him. -

Really???skank;1100349 wrote:Maybe a better way to put it is that they fired him because he wasn't black....
Yeah, if he doesn't exceed Johnson's 1st year record I can only imagine what guys like you are going to say! Especially in private! LOL!skank;1100349 wrote:It will be interesting though, if McKinley hires a black man, to see what expectations are of him. -
Old RiderIf they hire another white coach then it appears that the black folks will be upset.
If they hire a black coach then the white folks will say that the BOE did it only to make the black folks happy.
Unfortunately it seems as though nobody in Canton will be happy with whoever gets hired!
Racism? I don't know...what a tough situation for McKinley High School and its community! -
passwordIf they hire a black coach will that help Johnson when the lawsuit is filed, they will try and use it to show what Johnson and his lawyers are saying, that his firing was purely racist? I think it is a shame that all these accusations from both sides are doing nothing but harming the kids and the program.

Again, I'm just commenting on the situation that has been created by the Barbershop gang and the Canton BOE, well, the three black women on the Canton BOE anyway. My guess, he could have the exact same record as RJ after 4 years, and put less kids in college and something tells me he'll be alright. The best man for the job, that's the way it should be, regardless of skin color.
You can paint me however you like....And I'll continue to paint the people who created this problem the way I like. -
RedRider1
Yep...and that's Todd Filtz. Won a state title as a head coach and finished runner-up another time....at Maple Heights.skank;1100830 wrote:The best man for the job, that's the way it should be, regardless of skin color
My guess is he'll get "offered" the job, but with no teaching position tied to it and turn it down...opening the door for Craig Coleman (a McK grad with connections) to step in and take the job. -

One way to fix that.......Miyagi says hire an Asian coach -
Old RiderMr Miyagi;1101151 wrote:One way to fix that.......Miyagi says hire an Asian coach
Thats the solution.
Lin leaves the Knicks for the McKinley job and proves he can coach high school football!
