Legendary Coach Ousted at Smithville

  • Red Rum
35 years and 250 wins truly is a legendary run. Best of luck to Keith Schrock.

This had to happen sometime. It's unfortunate that it came to an unceremonious end with a forced resignation. Not really an ideal ending for a storied career. Renaming the stadium after Schrock would be a nice gesture. He clearly deserves it.
  • Heidi Hartzler
It is very obvious that "6" of your friends and more, including one of his staff members wanted Schrock gone or he wouldn't of been fired. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. We should be celebrating one of the greatest, most respected High School football coaches career not degrading him. This man deserves more respect than the constant reminder that the community wanted him out. "Jealousy is the root of all evil."

By the way Norwayne can now beat Smithville!!!

In this business it is the exception that one leaves on their own terms. Coaches with the record like KS should have called it a day when he retired from teaching and on top of the world. Some people prefer to hang on longer than they should and it comes back and bites them! I am not saying it is good, just the way it is!

You cant make this stuff up! He's forced to sign a bogus 30 day confidentiality agreement so that the interim super who fired him can get her permanent appointment hopefully without much outrage at the board meeting. Meanwhile, the aspiring assistant coach's brother sits on the school board. Amatuer hour in Smithville. And, no offense, but why are so many women calling the shots on the football program? Sack up, Smithies.

And if this revolved around the fact Schrock is 70, guess what? Thats age discrimination. He was still winning.
  • Mr. Russell
Heidi I agree with you 100%, except for the hopefully beating Norwayne part.

Even those who thought it was time for a change, are furious with how this has been handled. Those "6" people are obviously morons.

I want to know when all of the other coaches in our program, who never even will compete for a county championship will be evaluated? I am tired of seeing average to below average products put on the field of competition in other sports, and each coach has a pass.

I actually have been hearing this for 3 years. I'm just sayin. All the Smithies I know are not unhappy with this

Just like Doug Haas at Triway right?

Make your voices heard at the Green Local board meeting on Mon. night! The story is coming out little by little! Check Sundays' Daily Record!

Cannot attend, but one questions that should be asked is why this district hired a principal that is involved in a pending lawsuit for a similar situation.

I think you are all wet. Still upset you lost to Smithville I see. It happened this way from what I was told by a insider at Smithville. Besacon wants the job and ask people to write letters against Keith and record things in the locker room and with his brother on the board to help him out with the process. So he came back with an agrenda to get Keith fired and it looks like he is going to win. He did something simular in Rittman he left and blamed everything on the kids what a poor excuse of a man to use people and kids the way he does. Keith belongs to be treated better than this period.

My mom used to work in the district office and she said that if a teacher and a non-teacher apply for the coaching position they are required by law to give it to the teacher.

If that's true then Besancon might not get the job.

This is true they would have to prove the teacher is not qualified before giving it to an outsider.

Not true at all. A few years back, about 3 teachers at Norwayne applied for the Girls basketball coaching position and they hired an outside guy. If they are required by law then Norwayne broke it and Acker does everything by the book....lol

It's not law it's union contract based. Typically the union member must be deemed "qualified" as recently posted. Contract language for that respective district must be referred to.

Let's just put it this way I have a few sources that were very involved with the program this year, and no way did I pick up on Besancon having anything but respect for Schrock through the season.

I know Brent pretty well and he never asked me to do anything your suggesting, I think your informant may have a agenda themselves.

I have a gut feeling this IS the real reason. It saddens me and honestly I think this has broken Dad's heart the most. My father has ALWAYS had the upmost respect for this family as I have too. He LOVES Brent and honestly wanted him to have his job when he was ready to resign. Never have I heard him say a bad thing about Brent. This back stabbing (pretty much came from the horses mouth and distant relative) is such an awful thing to do to this man. My Dad said the other day, when Larry Atchison resigned Dad encouraged him to rip it up and keep coaching. To this day Atchison is one of Dad's best friends. At my Dad's 250th win party Brent sat in the other room. State playoffs Brent walked right by Dad and Hardman. WIT Brent doesn't speak to my Dad. All of these things and I am sure more lead me to believe that this may be correct. I hope not. I hope for my dad's sake the truth comes out. HE DESERVES THIS!!!!!!!

Read Mrs. Hartzler post below. My source is inside the ropes and it was his agrenda all along. This is such a shame and shows such a lack of respect for keith. I hope he does not get the job. This type of behavior should not be condoned by any administration.
