Wooster cleans house...

iced earthFootball players were called to a meeting this morning and told entire staff will not be back.
-
THE4RINGZLet's hope they have a replacement already lined up so things can proceed.

RedRider1Whole staff? Wow!!

1_beastHarbour?

Old RiderBill McMillan?

THE4RINGZCoach Dennis?????

RedRider1No way Harbour leaves Norwayne....
I could see Mac, but that's not a long-term solution IMO.
Need someone young that saw success elsewhere that would view Wooster either as a step-up, or as a dream job. An alum would be nice....need someone to understand the Orrville/Wooster matchup and what it needs to mean to that community.
What about triway's Tony Lee? Isn't he a Wooster alum? -
THE4RINGZ
Triway's Tony Lee is from the Fostoria area. There was (until today) another Tony Lee who was an asst. coach at Wooster who is a Wooster alum.RedRider1;1012211 wrote:No way Harbour leaves Norwayne....

Please explain why Harbour wouldn't leave Norwayne? Do you think at his young age he doesn't have higher goals now?RedRider1;1012211 wrote:No way Harbour leaves Norwayne....

THE4RINGZWooster being a DII program puts him closer to coaching at a Northwest type atmosphere.

CCRollyJust got this news sent to me over lunch. Will be interesting to see how they move forward with this. Sorry Orrville...your luck has run out!
-
RedRider1Thanks for the clarification on Lee, Ringz.
Just think Harbour thinks he can build a powerhouse at Norwayne....but maybe.
I think the list of locals starts with Harbour & McMillan...doesnt mean either are interested, but they'll be targeted. -
Old Rider
Your administration has a tendency to screw things up when it comes to hiring the right guy and firing the wrong guy, so as an Orrville fan I expect the same this time around as well and the streak of wins over Woo continues.CCRolly;1012255 wrote:Just got this news sent to me over lunch. 1_beastIn Harbours shoes, Im not sure Wooster is a step up....sure it is size wise...but there is no support. He has a great nucleus built and tons returning with the addition of turf!
If Harbour moves on, which isnt out of the realm at his age...Im sure he has people ringing his doorbell! Those people may have more prosperity and tradition and support than Wooster has to offer. -
THE4RINGZThere is an opportunity in Wooster. Don't base the future on the recent past. The fans/supporters have become complacent because the staff was. Give them a winner and watch what happens. Wooster is sitting on the front edge of a tremendous bubble of talent.
-
RedRider1So this is quite an important hire for Wooster, and one that will define Kellar's short time as AD.
Imagine this....get your coach in place before Jan. 28th (unlikely) and introduce him at halftime of the Orrville-Wooster game at WHS.....have him come out (like Tressel did) and say.....
"State Championships are nice, playoff games are nice, conference championships are nice....but in X number of days, we're going to end this losing streak against Orrville on our home turf and all of the things I just mentioned will follow in due time."
That would immediately ignite the rivalry, and an apathetic fanbase....and would be a pretty cool spectacle. -
CCRollyThe Sleeping Giant that is Wooster football, may finally have been awoken!
-
THE4RINGZThis rumor of McCreary stepping down has had some legs since the Orrville game. Hopefully, in the meantime, they have compiled a list of candidates and are ready to move forward today!!!

Mr. RussellHarbour would not leave Norwayne for Wooster. Esepcially where he has a teaching spot, where some of his closest friends are assistants. He has talent coming up throughout the program, they will be able to make another run next year. Also, they are getting field turf and renovations to the stadium. No way he leaves. He can stay there as long as he wants, I am positive, and probably get what he wants.
I agree with RR1, that would be pretty cool.
It's tough to speculate on football openings, because you never know who will apply. A young assistant, unknown to us, from Stark County may want to be a head coach and come get this job.
All I know is that there is some serious talent in that program. -

It is not uncommon for whole staffs to be hired away from other districts.
I'm a WCAL guy....but Wooster and the OCC is a big step up from Norwayne and the WCAL. Success at a school like Wooster can lead to even bigger and better things.
I don't know his life goals...maybe he's happy being a small school coach....but most winners want to challenge themselves at a higher level after succeding at lower levels.
I don't know if he would or not but I bet he gets a call! -
THE4RINGZWooster Football 2012
"More than just a half time show" -
TCBHarbour moving to Wooster makes too much sense. He just won the D4 championship with a perennial WCAL doormat. His QB is graduating. Where does he go from here? If he can't repeat as D4 champ then he'll be underachieving. People will say he won simply because of Wallace. His worth will never be higher than right now. The guy in just a short time has already done more for Norwayne football than anyone in history. I wouldn't want to stand in the way of his career ambitions. If he doesn't move, he's selling himself short.
The opportunity to move from D4 to D2 (even with Wooster's recent issues) has to be tempting. Not to mention he would have Cameron Daugherty and a bumpercrop of young talent in the system. The logical move would be him to Wooster and one of his assistants takes over Norwayne. If he can win at Wooster then it's up and onward to a D1 program.
And McCreary..what's there to say. I'm assuming the "changes" revolved around his staff. His shortcomings, though, went much deeper than just his assistants. There literally is no football program in Wooster. Sure they field teams, but it's a dysfunctional mess at every level and that starts at the top. Every coach in the system needs to be given walking papers. And I'm reading between the lines that he and his supporters argue they lacked talent, not coaching. That one just makes me mad. More excuses for his ineptitude. -
THE4RINGZHe didn't lack talent, especially the past three years.

I agree with much of what you say, but considering the fact that Norwayne will do everything in their power to keep their new "golden boy" and the community support that he has received can not and WILL not be duplicated in Wooster. Norwayne has new schools, a very supportive community, a great youth program, corn-fed farm boys, and superintendant(Acker) that appears to "loves" athletics.. (Tefs is a pre-Madonna).TCB;1013293 wrote:Harbour moving to Wooster makes too much sense. He just won the D4 championship with a perennial WCAL doormat. His QB is graduating. Harbour has what I think is a "sleeping giant" and now that the community got a taste of success, it will only breed more...more kids will be excited about the sport, which means more kids playing at each level.
I think leaving Norwayne would be a mistake.
