Make no mistake; that is the standard MO. I could just see a reason for it. That's all.sydfl;1277065 wrote:Could be...not disagreeing with anyone here, just stating what I seen. I personally cant remember a game that I went to that when a blowout happens, both teams usually use that time for underclassmen, jv, freshmen to get some time in.
I do remember getting a lot of playing time as an underclassman for Coach Schrock during blowouts. The funny part was, I'd go onto JJ after the game, and there would be people insisting that the JVs weren't put in early enough or at all, when the grass stains on my normally clean jersey that night would have suggested otherwise.
Perception of a coach's decisions can be a difficult thing. -

Therein lies the Achilles' heel of the team: the line. That and missed tackles on defense. There were SO many missed tackles.Walt Disney;1277066 wrote:I thought Smithville was pretty tough for the entire game even though the second half scores may not indicate that. I thought it was a smart move for the smithies to switch to the ground & pound coming out of the gates to start the second half. #21 was running with authority and really moving the ball down the field. I was not too impressed with Bates. With all the talk on this board about him I was looking for something spectacular. He had great outside speed, not the best passing skills, but eventually the defense had him figured out. Smithville had some turnovers in the second half that really helped out the Falcons.
As far as defense for the Smithies, I didn't see too many good things out of them. They made some stops, but Hillsdales line dominated the Smithville defensive line. Hillsdale had almost no issues moving down the field.
Honestly, Bates didn't get time to throw tonight, and I was actually pretty impressed with his ability to pass given the fact that he was almost always doing so while either running for his life or about to get hit. The Hillsdale front 6-7 on defense were TOUGH tonight, limiting his ability to run much in the second half or set up to pass most of the game. Still, Bates gets happy feet a lot, and it does hurt his passing ability to some degree.
#21 and #24 are two tough seniors. Both play hard-nosed ball, which I like to see. It felt like deja vu from last year. Tight game going into half. Hillsdale goes up by about three scores headed into the latter half of the 4th quarter. Tolan Shane runs a kickoff back for a TD (I believe he was the same kid to do it last year, as well, anyway). He just seems to never quit.
What concerns me the most about this Smithville team is the "heart and guts" that I've always associated with Smithville football. At times, it seems like it's kinda there. At others (tonight), it looks like they just buckle under the pressure of a close game.
I'm not sure this team has the mental toughness. Last year's team certainly did, and they showed it in their wins over Mogadore and Norwayne. I believe these kids CAN get it. I just hope they DO.
There were actually a few harsher things I'd begun thinking during the game, but out of the respect I have for Coach B and his staff, I'll bite my tongue on the rest. I'll tell you one thing, despite the hole Coach Schrock left, coaching is one of the strongest points of this team. It's a very solid staff, I think. -
Buckeyefan34Heard rittman came back down 2 touchdowns in 4th quarter to beat Chippewa 21 to 20. Chipps cant seem to catch a break.

BobcatWaynedale takes the first play from the line of scrimmage all the way for a touchdown. From there it was an absolute beat down. What has happened to Waynedale football. They have some athletes that's for sure but they have problems. Let me be the first to apologize for Norwaynes staff running Zimmerly many times with the ball in the 3rd qtr up by 50+.....totally uncalled for. On top of that he's been nursing an injury. Ridiculous. It's obvious there trying to pad his stats. They're not worried about throwing the ball to a couple of the best receivers in the league but they're running Zimmerly way after the appropriate time. It appears The Cats staff is trying to make an MVP statement. Once again, all of the fans with some sense apologize and thank goodness the kid didnt get hurt. I hope the kid that got hurt is OK and best wishes for the rest of the season

However, I shouldn't be surprised. You have a history of this type of ignorant behavior. Nice to see your family member show his face tonight at the game. Can't believe he has the nerve to be out in public after his picture has been plastered all over the internet and tv the last few days. Go ahead, keep making excuses for him....
you should be ashamed....you are throwing someone under the bus and have NO clue who you are talking about. I talked to ghostrider tonight, lol and you are so far off base(this guy is a 15 min DRIVE from waynedale...lol not walking 007.)
you invited me, i showed up....fence hugger. you sicken me. shut your mouth about ANYTHING Waynedale. I will post the pictures of the meeting you asked for.....me at a picnic table, i dont know where the rest of you were. -

the kid hurt was R Stanley, a 2 way freshman....that was in, down 50+ in the 4th quarter.
dislocated elbow...out 6-8 weeks. STUPID. -

I suppose I'm just thankful he's only a Freshman, so he has several years left. It always kills me to see a senior experience a season-ending injury, so I guess there's at least something to be thankful for.
Having said all that, if he's a two-way starter, I'm somehow doubting he needed the reps. I certainly disagree with using him that late in the game with the score the way it is. It's an unfortunate result, but I'm going to stop there with any conclusions. -
oh yeah!!waynedale did nothing wrong letting the younger freshman play. from what I have read they may be starters but they are also FRESHMAN. hate to hear of anyone getting injured but sorry posters football is a contact sport and the kids can get hurt at any point in time. hope for a speedy recovery for they young man!! and yes chipp did blow the lead.....idk what else to say than you had to be their yourself...

So I guess if they throw the ball up 50+ points in the 3rd quarter thats ok if they did that then you would be complaining that they threw the ball which such a big lead. It goes back to the same old thing, when do you take out the 1st string?? I dont think they were padding stats, they were just running their Offense. Half way through the 3rd the majority of the carries were done by the 2nd and 3rd string RB.Bobcat;1277077 wrote:Waynedale takes the first play from the line of scrimmage all the way for a touchdown. You cant go week in and week out with your 1st string only playing 2 quarters a game that does not get you ready for the last part of the season.
So dont apologize for me I see nothing wrong with how the Norwayne Staff handled the situation!!!!!!! -

just watching it seemed like bates was on his back after many of his passes. the line for hillsdale were long and big (bee). i dont care who you are, its hard to throw around that kid if he has is hands up. 21 and 24 have the guts and will to win as well as bates. the 4 captains, including kurtz, sell out weekly. those 4 seniors care. if you say they dont i dont know what game you watched. majors from hillsdale is something else. i dont know where our linebackers were all night tho. k cline is impressive too. wasnt impressed with the quarterbacks passing from hillsdale. prayers out to the waynedale boy for a quick recovery. i would be furious as his parent if he was still in down 50. if i was a coach, once the other team starts pulling guys, im pulling mine. thats just me thoO-Trap;1277069 wrote: Honestly, Bates didn't get time to throw tonight, and I was actually pretty impressed with his ability to pass given the fact that he was almost always doing so while either running for his life or about to get hit. BobcatObviously B14 is missing the point. There's absolutely no way Norwayne should have been throwing....and there's no way they should have been running one of the best players in the league with the ball up by 56 in the 3rd. That's the point.

Like I have said on here many times...the day that YOU start criticizing people's character....well, I won't finish but I think you know where I am going.
If it isn't the "regulars" on here talking then it doesn't count. Who annointed the "regulars" anyway? What is their background? Anyone can call themself an expert. Think about this...ghost has been on here for a week or so and he is already referring to himself as an "analyst"...STUPID (yuck, yuck) -

Norwayne should be alittle more respectful of the way they play some of the lower level teams in the league. Lets not forget not to long ago they were on the the recieving end of a lot of these. Also as is the case with Orrville you can see that what comes around goes around. That being said if no one can stop the 2nd and 3rd team players, you cant ask these kids to not play hard when they are in. -

i completely agree with you but they are probably running up the score because it was them getting the score run up on. "sending a message" we got it norwayne. your a powerhouse now. once they are down again teams will run it up on them. run wedge down the field if you guys are so good you cant back off the scoring.scarface1;1277121 wrote:Norwayne should be alittle more respectful of the way they play some of the lower level teams in the league. You are dang if you do or dang if you don't. No matter if you start taking a knee in the 3rd quarter someone will be mad at ya.855pride;1277124 wrote:i completely agree with you but they are probably running up the score because it was them getting the score run up on. No one said take a knee in the 3rd but dont run a possible all ohio player when the score is 56-0. If they cant stop you 2nd and 3rd team players not your fault but if what is being said on here happened, that is just wrong. -
Go FalconsI started a new separate thread for the pickem.
Please post picks there so as not to disrupt the flow of intelligent football conversation on here!
Fair is almost over so I hope to get results caught up this weekend. -

I agree it is good sportsmanship to watch what you are doing and who is getting the ball when you are winning big. However I feel the 3rd quarter is still fair game. It's not the 4th, which would be a all different conversation. Just ask schrock, sauders, and or Ramsey. I know they would agree. I know I was still trying to tackle Miley, zaucher, mcbride well into the 3rd quarter when the game was well already lopsided.scarface1;1277149 wrote:No one said take a knee in the 3rd but dont run a possible all ohio player when the score is 56-0. The Artist Formerly Known As Mr. RussellSome Quick Thoughts:
1. It was nice meeting Go Falcons and seeing O Trap last night.
2. I think that Hillsdale is here to stay.
3. I think that people need to lighten up on Coach Z. When he loses a game or two that Waynedale SHOULD win, then people can be upset.
4. I feel bad for R. Stanley. Having seen this injury first-hand and been around the rehab process, it is very scary and he is going to need a lot of support from friends/coaches/family, especially if there was a UCL tear with the dislocated elbow.
5. I also feel bad for Chippewa. Being so close to a victory and having it snatched.
6. Congrats to Rittman.
7. Norwayne is doing what they should, I am happy for those kids. It is a great feeling when hard work pays off. I hope they aren't too uptight and are enjoying this season. I remeber our basketball season when we started 24-0, there were some games when the pressure of being perfect kept the game from being fun. Hopefully that isn't the case for Norwayne.
8. I don't care what QB you are, at any level if you have pressure in your face all night you are going to get "happy feet". Whether NFL, NCAA, OHSAA, whatever; a pass rush is a deadly weapon. I can't remember 3 sacks this year that Smithville has gotten. Alex hasn't gotten sacked tremendously much either, but he has gotten pressure a ton, the only difference is he has been able to get out of the pocket a lot and make plays with his feet and speed. I hope Smithville can get a pass rush on Northwestern.
9. There are some fricken studs in the WCL this year. Talking about individual players. Some guys that are really just a thrill to watch. I saw another one last night for the first time. Corbin Mager for Hillsdale. Running behind a great line, in a great offensive system, but he would shine for any team around here.
10. I think it should be fair game for any team in a blowout to do whatever they want until at least the 4th quarter. They will have to live with the consequences of any injuries, but also need to get their team ready for down the road. If the team getting blown out doesn't sub their JV in, then why should the winning team be obligated to do so? -
Paul
WOW you teach a player to play hard and then when he gets in a game you tell him not to play hard WOW. Bobcat you don't speak for me, I guess the seven plays Zimmerly ran at Rittman was to many. ghostriderI just want to go on record as saying I dont care what the score was last night or today at the JV game. The Norwayne players were classy and respectful. Hats off to those boys for playing the game with respect and not being cocky or arrogant. Things are good in Creston.

This is nice to hear. When you are on top you don't hear to many people bring up the positives about a team other than there record -
luckydog
This happened about 3 years ago when the Dawgs played the Chips. We were up by 70 on the Chips and they left their first string in until about 5 minutes left in the game. Ram was pissed and was considering putting the first team back in and hang a 100 on their sorry butts.sydfl;1277052 wrote:Same happened tonight at Dalton....up 46-0 at halftime, Huskies put in 2nd and 3rd stringers, Dalton keeps varsity out. Why take a chance to get boys injured like that? Padding stats? Ego to get a touchdown? Not sure, but you sure hated to see it
We couldn't help but keep scoring, even with our JV's.
Never tell a Football player to "take it easy" on the other team.....NEVER!! -
BRFI think most Orrville guys accept that, if given the chance, our opponents are going to ring it up on us. Just goes with the territory.
