I dont go to games. I just make things up...if I were a betting man, though, I would guess that varsity QB Joe Dreher helped with the chains today...and I would also guess that he is probably a humble, down to earth guy. Now thats just speculation.wcalfan;1277518 wrote:Did you go to the JV game, oh wise one?

Nope, not a close friend or relative. Sad that many times before. If you would take a minute to get off the fence with dad, then maybe you would have know that.
Back when we beat Dalton 50-0 (think it was 48-0 though), was your little brother in the stands watching? -

Im now a betting man (see, things CAN change) Im willing to bet ANY amount that YOU did not see ME hugging a fence. You are simply delusional. Talk football and drop the detective work. How will the Bears rebound in Jeromesville, missing a few starters to injury? Two key players may be done for the year. Is it time to just hand to reins over to the mighty freshman class? -
Bloody ToothbrushOn the subject of Dalton leaving their 1st stringers in after being down by 40.....What's the problem? I don't see it.
Dalton was trying to come back.....even if it wasn't gonna happen, you still gotta try.
Speaking of blowouts.....I personally don't think anybody is running up the score. The Norwayne game I saw against Wellington could have been 90-10 if the Cats kept their starters in, same with Hillsdale vs Dalton, the Falcons pulled their RBs in the middle of the 3rd. My opinion is when your up big, reign it in a little and when your down big....keep tryin' to get back in it. If it ends up 86-8....oh well.
Last night Rumhole took me to see Kirtland/Cuyahoga Hts......it's gonna be a good game he says......40-7 final score. Kirtland is good....the game was not. If any local D5 teams run across Kirtland, it's gonna be ugly. If you've never been to Cuyahoga Hts to watch a game, you should check it out. A real nice D5 stadium with turf and interesting seating setup.
Smithville/Northwestern looks like the big WCAL game this week......a must win for both.
area wide....the OCC has been having some great games. West Holmes looks to be the real deal. -

Never was a big proponent of worrying about running up of the score. Granted, I agree that it is wise to get underclassmen experience, but if they're scoring, you let them score.Bloody Toothbrush;1277800 wrote:On the subject of Dalton leaving their 1st stringers in after being down by 40.....What's the problem? There is a game from just over a decade ago that I always bring up, and it usually gets a strong response, but I was on the sideline, and the coaches were getting the newest of the newbies playing time.
Any time Smithville has gotten drubbed in recent memory, my thought was not on the other team's running up the score. It was always on how Smithville should have stopped them.
That is, after all, the job of the defense, right? -

I know when I was playing on some pretty rough norwayne teams it always felt like a kick in the junk when you were getting beat bad and the other team pulled out the starters who you battled agianst all night for some freshman jv squadO-Trap;1277811 wrote:Never was a big proponent of worrying about running up of the score. Yeah. We never got drubbed too bad, but I do know that I wanted to face those same guys I'd faced all night if we were losing. If they had kicked our butts all night, even some revenge on the very last play would have been sweeter than ushering in the scrubs. For the purpose of experience, I understood, but I always hated it.99bobcatdb;1277825 wrote:I know when I was playing on some pretty rough norwayne teams it always felt like a kick in the junk when you were getting beat bad and the other team pulled out the starters who you battled agianst all night for some freshman jv squad -

Yea there is no perfect answer or call. Coaches just have to do what they think is best for each situation and what is best for their team. We can just sit back on comment on their decisions. Nothing like a bunch on Monday morning QB's like us all on this siteO-Trap;1277830 wrote:Yeah. Bloody ToothbrushThe blowout conversation could be a hot topic the few weeks as Norwayne has got Chippewa and Dalton coming up and Rittman still has yet to play Hillsdale, Smithville and Northwestern.
and Otrap....I think I know the game you speak of.....Smithville vs New London in 2002? It's always a no win situation when you've cleared the bench scoring 80 pts and there's STILL time on the clock. Whatever you do, you'll get ripped for it.....but that's Football. -
O-Trap
Bingo. 80-6. You've got the bottom of the depth chart gaining a minimum of seven yards a carry running right up the gut. When your 3rd string JV running back cranks off a 20-yard run on an 0-trap, what do you do?Bloody Toothbrush;1277858 wrote:The blowout conversation could be a hot topic the few weeks as Norwayne has got Chippewa and Dalton coming up and Rittman still has yet to play Hillsdale, Smithville and Northwestern.

Interestingly enough, the six points they scored were on the first team defense. Long pass caught the safety off guard, and he got beat down the field. -

MOUNTAINBEARbingo we have a winner! FORGOT MY CAPS, SEEMS TO GET THIS GUY FIRED UP! Really now is he kidding or really borderline? Beast what is this fence thing? Guy probably does not realize that I spent more time on the football field my freshman year then he has in his football career. Brother was usually with me and my dad is about 30 miles away in Millersburg. I have coached more kids then he knows. Cant say I ever spent much time on "the fence". One thing we all seem to agree on is the coaching staff and community of Creston seem to have it fiqured out right now. Maybe he will let us all have that opinion. It is nice to say that the WCAL has 2 state titles. HEY, 007, DO NOT WORRY, WHEN COACH Z IS GONE THE NEXT COACH WILL LET YOU KEEP YOUR JOB!1_beast;1277879 wrote:LOL I know this guy aint on the fence with dad.....you're killin me.

MOUNTAINBEARSamething I ask beast, what the heck is the fence riding thing? Hillsdale physical, people out, people banged up. Short side of the field (sorry I promised) Could be a long nite. Let the scrubs play, start getting ready for next year! OH GREAT FOOTBALL GODS PLEASE SMILE UPON US, END OUR SUFFERING SOON! OH DARN IT CAPS AGAIN!! 855prideon the topic of blow outs. nothing you can do when the scrubs and jv move the ball and score on the varsity. each coach has a different thought process for games. maybe the year before the score was run up on them and the tides have turned. smithville must win this week to have any hope of county and to have the slimmest of hope for the playoffs. could the football gods be punishing smithville for the keith schrock scandal? amazing the "new direction" the administration wanted to send the program in.......

BobcatI thought I'd ask the question of the posters on here. It's been commented on several times but let's get everyones opinion. Is the 3rd qtr fair game for a teams 1st string offense when they are destroying the opposing team at half. 99bobcatdb and a couple others on here think it is. I dont think it is. The comment was in reference to Norwaynes stud RB running the ball many times deep into the 3rd qtr up by 56 points. If that ok should Norwayne keep throwin to the WR's in the 3rd? Keep in mind it's been nothing for Norwayne to go to the air and score 4 or 5 times in a qtr. Norwaynes QB completed 10 passes Friday night for 269 yards and 5 or 6 touchdowns. It's reasonable to believe, if they were passing, Norwayne would have scored again..probably more than once. What do you think?

On one hand, with the game in the bag, you are risking unnecessary injury. On the other hand, it's the opponents job to stop your RB. You have to condition your team to get those touches and to play 4 quarters of football. Is it painful for the losing team? Sure. Is is fair to bench the varsity team for winning? NOPE. You need the reps, you need the touches. Otherwise you aren't conditioned for 4 quarters of football. A very good example is the Genoa teams that Orrville faced. VERY good teams, but only played a half of football....was not conditioned for 4 quarters of live ball.
I don't think you throw it though...now you are looking at quick strike scores and/or clock stoppage.
In closing, I could see subbing in 2nd and 3rd teamers as you leave your varsity in, but I don't really think you HAVE to take out the whole starting unit. Huge key to Schrocks success, subbing 2nd and 3rd team kids in with a varsity heavy squad for valuable gametime success. Then you have the 2nd and 3rd team....filling the role as "they have been there before"....with success. -
99bobcatdb
I believe 3rd quarter is fair game, but you should be respectful and have sportsmanship. If you are up my 56 at half I don't think you need to air it out every play, but it is the defense job to stop the offense. I feel it would be poor coaching on norwayne part if they did not play their key players in the 3rd. Every kid on every team is just that a kid. They need reps no matter how good you are. When weeks 8,9, and 10 are here they will need those reps they got in the other games 3rd quarters. They have to play more than half a session in the play offs and maybe state gameBobcat;1278034 wrote:I thought I'd ask the question of the posters on here. jacoAny coach who leaves starters in the game deep into the third quarter when up 50 points is probably a jerk. And karma has a way of catching up to guys like that.
All that said, football isn't about asking for mercy. If a team doesn't like it then do something about it. Get better rather than crying about someone running the score up. -
Paul_1Play till the final whistle blows, if your getting beat bad then you better do something to get better, this "god forbid we hurt somebodys wittle feelings" for running up the score is for 3rd graders and parents of 3rd graders. If you cant keep up, then do something to get better or get your butt off the field.
