  yea i can see with that voucher program mooney still cant get enough kids to compete in D-1. Or maybe they just dont want to. i guess they are content winning lesser titles

  There are exactly 3 D1 schools in Mahoning county. Hamilton county has 12. Cuyahoga County has 24. Just where are you thinking these kids will come from?

  You're right...Mooney still can't get to D1 numbers even with vouchers. I don't know what you mean by "they just don't want to." Why would Mooney NOT want that money coming in?
  
  And with the voucher program...if you're a school that accepts voucher students, you have to accept all students with vouchers. You can't just pick and choose which voucher students to take. So there is no way to limit the amount of voucher students coming into a school.

  maybe mooney doesnt want to move up. lets face it when was the last time mooney had a team that could have won a division 1 title? mooney has what around 80 players on there football team the same as many D-1 programs and yet no band? they might be the only D-3 school in state with no band. even these public schools that the catholic backers like to rag on put a band on the field. maybe catholics are better athletes than musicians.

  Two pretty large suburbs and consolidating what used to be 6 Youngstown City schools down to one. Up until last year, there were only two D1 programs. Finally they merged the last 2 Youngstown city schools (who were both D2) to create the third D1 school.

  There actually is a band at Mooney. The problem is, band is a very expensive extra curricular activity. The feeder schools do not have a lot of money, and therefore, have no sort of band program. In the public schools, thanks to all those tax dollars coming in, they are able to offer band to their students from an early age on. At the private schools, you learn the recorder in fourth grade music and don't see another instrument. I'm sure there would be a lot more kids interested in joining the band if it was something they were able to do from the fourth grade on like the public school kids do. But, the Catholic grade schools do not have that advantage.

  Side note...there was a kid from my class at St. Luke that went to high school at Boardman because he wanted to be a part of a better band program.
  
  Maybe if the public schools weren't recruiting our best members, Mooney would have a pretty good band, too.

  Except that St. Luke is now closed. So I guess maybe they should have saved the money and not done the recorder in fourth grade. Perhaps they would still be open right now.

  What does the band have to do with anything? Can't remember the last time I went to a football game to see a band concert.

  Gotta love those Campbell Memorial Red Devils! Congrats on a great season. It good to see some Campbell boys contributing to the title in PJ Quinn and Carmen Lanzo. These two young men come from very good families and did a great job this year. Just in case anyone wants to know, they both are part of the Mooney feeder schools & have never attended the Campbell public school system. Wish we could have had them on our team this year.

  You mean Braylon Heard the student athlete at Nebraska and Derrel Koulianous whose charges were dropped? And for your information Harding is in Trumbull county and I don't know or care if they are in academic emergency because it doesn't affect Mooney what so ever.

  yea the same Braylon Heard the student athlete who was academically ineligible his freshamn year at nebraska. and Derrel Koulianous who plead guilty to possesion in part of plea bargain deal to have the other charges dropped.
