OhioShawnee gave up 40 some points last week and people think they can beat mooney? Sorry they are not half the offense of dover which mooney completely shut down in the second half in a rout. Mooney will load up and pound it on their way to their 8th state title.
-
mlisi39I think Uniontown is an excellent spot to see a game. What was wrong?

Bathroom situation, awful.
Stands on the away side, way too small.
The field and track were beautiful (although the lighting sucked), its more that Uniontown didn't seem to be prepared to handle the traffic and amount of fans there. Isn't that the reason they decided on Lake, because it was centrally located for all 4 of the possible teams so they pulled the trigger with enough time to get prepared on a holiday weekend. Well, they weren't prepared. We got in to Uniontown about 20-25 minutes before kickoff and didn't sit down at the game until a few minutes into the game. And we were forced to sit on the home side because the away side was full.
You're telling me they couldn't have held the game at a stadium with plenty of seating on both sides, in a town that knows how to handle traffic for a big game?
It was just what I said, minor league. Beautiful field and stadium, but I'm not there for the freaking scenery. -

Crimson and Gray HairI know little of Shawnee but we obviously have a traditional high school program versus a ... well, we all know.
So, although I'd rather expect to see mooney win I'll pull for Shawnee. -

Good luck matching the tradition of Mooney over the past 40 yearsCrimson and Gray Hair;994747 wrote:I know little of Shawnee but we obviously have a traditional high school program versus a ... well, we all know.
You can call me when you when a Regional Championship, then you can talk about "traditional high school programs"
Until then, suck on the 70 we laid on you -

Here you go 'rocketscientist' - written about ursuline last year but you can plug in mooney instead and the principle applies equally well to your winning tradition. If you don't understand the concept, ask your buddy to stop reading to you from OC threads and get the comic books back out!Rocket08;995020 wrote:Good luck matching the tradition of Mooney over the past 40 years

"SO WHAT! That statement carries as much relevance to high school sport as Ohio State boasting they can beat Heidelberg.
Ursuline isn't a high school football program in any capacity of what high school sports is, or should be, about. Like Mooney and similar cohorts, Ursuline is more like a 'professional' amalgam of talented high school age athletes from a large geographic area assembled to win games and raise money for the program - and nothing more. Had they any capacity for introspection, even the jaded Irish faithful could see actuality.
The Yankees win baseball titles year over year only because they have the means to buy the best players. You do the same thing, just using a different currency! Yeah, I know, it's legal within the rules set by OHSAA but it's outside the spirit of high school sport.
Let Dover cherry-pick the cream from the top football talent in Tuscarawas and surrounding counties and we'd beat everyone in the state as well - SO WHAT! Nothing but hollow victories. We've all heard the rhetoric; "stop living in the past", "live with it, this is what HS football is about today", "everyone does it" - kinda like the neighbor's dog that craps in your yard; you may have to live with it, but everyone knows where the stink comes from. You think everyone envies your success? Think again.
The day Dover's coaching staff, AD and administration decide it's time to import players so they can win more games is the day I cancel my season tickets (and I like my seats!)." -
Mooney44CardsWhere is the "spirit of high school sport" written? Thats about the most subjective thing ever. My spirit of high school sport is clearly not the same as yours. If Dover or Shawnee or Chagrin Falls or whatever small-town public schools Mooney faces want it to be their goal to do thing's in a certain manner and be proud of that, then so be it. That is your choice. Mooney has always and will continue to pursue excellence and be THE BEST both on the field and in the classroom. This is why Mooney has many coaches and players at the highest levels of college and professional sports. We don't settle for "as long as we do it the right way, we're winners in our own hearts" BS. That's what losers say. Go out there into the real world. No one gives you a pay raise or a job or a bonus for doing things the right way but failing at it. You are rewarded for excellence.
Play by the rules and be the best you can be. That's what's expected of you in school, in sports, in the workplace, and in life. Ask yourself if you're doing both. If your coaches or administrators are going to complain about HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS being unfair, they are doing themselves an injustice and they aren't doing everything they can do to win. If they are going to dodge certain schools simply because they are private or Catholic, they are robbing their kids the opportunity to play against anyone and everyone. And isn't that how you learn to be the best? From trying (and sometimes failing) against the best and then taking what you've learned back to the drawing board? Plenty of public schools have it figured out, they aren't going to make excuses, they aren't going to dodge anyone, they are going to go toe to toe with the big boys and say "I know you're better than me, and I don't care". And if they lose, they will say the other team was better but we learned a lot, not that the playing field isn't level (I'm looking at you Mark Brungard).
So please, continue with the "it means more to us", "we grow our own", "we're not an All-Star team" BS. While you're doing that, Mooney will be taking the field in pursuit of #8, and there will be plenty of kids throughout the Youngstown area and sitting in the stands on Friday who are going to be saying "I want to grow up and play for Mooney and be THE BEST." And the best part about that is, the first step in being the best is CHOOSING to pursue it. And thank the Lord that kids have the choice to attend a school that will give them the opportunity to be the best instead of attending a school by default where all the fans, coaches, and administrators do is make excuses. -

Spread All DayI don't see how you can argue that Mooney isn't a traditional program. Mooney is a football mecca.. You act like Mooney and Ursuline are the only teams in Youngstown with talent?
Didn't Struthers beat Stuby in a scrimmmage? Struthers? Come on.
Every team in the Youngstown area has had their time, but Mooney's time hasn't ended yet. Probably never will. Their TRADITION is spotless. Say what you will, they recruit, they aren't catholic, etc. Bottom line: they're 17 year old kids vs other 17 year old kids. It's sad people come on here and make these kids look like villans for attending a good school... yeah if they went to YO EAST, they wouldnt even play sports most likely. Youngstown City schools aren't the best.. and if they went anywhere else, guess what... that team would be great too. Stop complaining about something you can't control, (skank, and every team that loses to mooney) It's like you're in 3rd grade or something. Sorry other areas aren't as talented as Youngstown (obviously)... That being said: Mooney 42-14 -
landshark0731Spread................ Excellent Post!!!!!! What some of these folks don't understand .to be the best, you gotta beat the best. If you come up short hit the weight room and film room.

Have you ever been to Ursuline or Mooney? Do you even know anyone attending the school currently? How far does the student who live furthest from the school have to travel in this large geographic area you speak of? You probably have no idea? Some schools have state wide open enrollment (probably your own) doesn't mean that it is practical to send your child there. You are speculating on things you have NO clue about, zero, zilch nada, not one iota of factual information just rumor and inuendo from a bitter, small minded person who believes everything he has heard.Crimson and Gray Hair;995113 wrote:.......... I couldn't tell you the first thing about the students that attend Dover other then those that I have met at track meets and softball tournaments so I could not begin to speculate as to how and why they are where they are, but then I don't like to make a fool of myself I'll leave that to YOU. -
