I've had to lock the week 11-14 threads, it's not like this one will be any different.

The best thing about winning State Championship #8...seeing all the people get upset that they won it.

Congrats on a great game Cards! Way to stay tough in that second half.

Hell of a game...but way to bring the hardware home to Youngstown. So proud that these guys are keeping the dynasty alive.

This is what's great about winning, watching jealous little crap heads like you have their day ruined because someone else was successful, and you're not

I figured that you would have figured out how to handle this by now

Soooo, better get used to it junour

Im not going to SUCK on anything. Call Jerry Sandusky or you local Parish if you want that kind of action.

I watched the air go out of Mooney in the last minutes, You should Thank The Good Lord for the penalty!!!....I can cheer for another Team...I DO NOT NEED YOU VULGAR ATTACKS! YOU ARE OUT OF LINE!!!!

It is people like YOU that gives a program a bad name!!!!

I Love the fact that your school won the title...i do not care for the behavior you are displaying on a HS forum!

Congrats to Mooney on #8. Again happy for 4Cards, RadCard, Ccard & all the other Mooney fans that like great HS football & love the MVR.

This Mooney team was very "streaky" throughout the two games I saw (semis & finals). I say streaky along the lines of I guess call it bend but don't break D & an offense that @ times just really didn't look that good in comparison to championship teams of the past. A bunch of 3 & outs on O but @ other times they took control marched down the field in full control & punched it into the endzone.

Big Red, Chagrin Falls & Shawnee (the least impressive O) did not take advantage of not only moving the ball but not scoring when Mooney almost seemed disinterested on both sides of the ball. Both Big Red & Chagrin had leads not only on the scoreboard but in stats as well & just didn't seemed interested in letting Mooney "hang around".

Mooney played 4 quarters (or never gave up) & the others didn't is the best explanation I can come up with for the 8th championship. Because I was really underwhelmed with this Mooney team in comparison to the domination that I am use to seeing from Mooney.

RRR looking forward to R11 in 2012

Although Mooney didn't totally dominate yesterday they still brought the trophy to Erie St. As the late Al Davis used to say, "JUST WIN BABY"!

I was at this game and the final score wasn't really indicative of how well Mooney controlled this game. Shawnee had to work for every yard. Their second TD was aided by three Mooney penalties, all PI I think, so I thought they kind of gifted that one to them. Shawnee's QB, he was their offense. Didn't have much of a running game yesterday. Mooney's defense was pretty stingy.

I would say the same thing about the Big Red game. I believe the last few personal foul penalties gifted that game away. Not trying to be sarcastic...

A few championship tid-bits about Mooney.

    1. 14 points is the most points Mooney has given up in any of their 8 state championship wins. Their previous points-against were:

    1973: 3
    1980: 0
    1982: 0
    1987: 7
    2004: 6
    2006: 12
    2009: 7

    2. A man much older than I would have to research the first four championships, but during the PJ Fecko era, Mooney is 4-0 in state title games with #15 at QB and 0-2 without #15 at QB. In both losses, #15 was injured and did not play in the championship game. I wonder if any other number will ever be worn at QB at Mooney ever again? Note: last year, Mooney's QB Kevin McGuire wore #5 and Mooney fell in the Regional Championship game.

I think the most impressive thing about Mooney is that they are relatively young. A bunch of juniors were big contributors this year. Look out DIII, next year could be worse.
  • Mooney44Cards
    Another tidbit:

Mooney has now made the playoffs 9 years in a row, reaching the finals 6 times, winning 4 and losing 2.

In the 3 years that Mooney did not reach the finals, they were eliminated by the eventual state runner-up (2003 - Cleveland VASJ, 2008 - Steubenville, 2010 - Akron Buchtel).
